Another question here because you are all so full of knowledge.

What happens if you want to run something @ 30V and had planned on say 3 cobs but you can only get something in 100V.. do they get over driven at 33.3333V each? How can you tell when too much is too much and your creating a fire hazard or should the driver adjust down to max draw?

This is probably what I want since it is the lowest initial cost but I don't think it will cover my entire 5x2 footer, is that set up too small

2 cxb 3590 36v @2100mA is the same than 2 cxb 3590 72v @1050 mA...at this intensity it will cover 2x4 maxi maximum...but 1.5x3 is better...2x5 is 10sq/ft...10 × 30w= 300w...it is what you will need to bloom and 150/200 for vegg...it is better to use 4 @50w but 75 is ok too...

Greetings

I was gifted a used led setup, 1-CLG-150-36 with 4-Vero 13 run through 4 -700ma LDD drivers
The CLG, Voltage, 31-41 V, Current 2.1-4.2 A
So if I am reading both data sheets right the setup is putting out ~ 11740 lumens
If I ran the Vero’s without the LDD’s
4@1050=15904
6@700=17610
8@500=17704

Suggestions/options, How much area could this setup grow plants properly.

8 @500mA will pull 128w...16w each and 32v and 138 lm/w (41.5%)
In a 2x2 it will be nice for bloom!

Meanwell lpc-60-1400 for one and lpc-100-1400 for 2...not dimmable!
If you had 3 the hlg-120-1400b would have been perfect...I guess it work for two but the driver wouldn't be full loaded and will loose efficiency so electricity...buy a third and take this one...you will be able to dim them lower to stay at 100w and get more efficiency from the cobs!

Should I get HLG-120H-C1050 instead of a HLG-120H-C1400 to put even less strain on my expensive CXB3070s and maybe put in a few additional LEDs such as Cree XPL or XML-U2 to squeeze all the perfomance out of the driver?

If you chose the 1050 you can run 4 and get the most out of your driver instead of lowering your efficiency.

HI guys & gals
this will be my last post on this topic need to know what everyone thinks
working with a 4x10 space for lights. 3 side enclosure
24 cxb 3590 hlg driver 120 1400 (3) cobs or 185 (4) cobs 90 reflectors

(1) run 3 cob space 16 inches depth and 8 bars 5.88 space 15 inches width that's 4x10

(2) run 3 cob space 16 inches depth and 8 bars 5.88 space 12 inches width that's 4x8

(3) run 4 cob space 12 inches depth and 6 bars 5.88 space 16 inches width that's 4x8

this is the last decision i have to make befor i order the sinks

I vote for #1!... (always...lol!)
For a large grow room I guess 16 inch is a very good spacing!...mine are at 20 inches from each others(21 precisely)
Then if you want more light you can go two time more watt
But spread is the key and you understand it...

awesome.. did some digging and found old post from supra where he said to someone 4x8 footprint (5) 3.5x40 (4) cob 12 depth and 19.2 width so we are on the right track
 
Ok so after much reading and trying to learn years worth of info in a few days this is what I'm thinking:

1) 3x Vero 18's @4000K
2) Driven off (alibaba specia) OTM 100-1050ma.

I'm also planning on using the frame and guts from a flea bay knock off 140w

Now you'll probably tell me that its inefficient but I'll be able to generate a lot of light right? If my thinking is wrong, happy for someone to show me a better way to get equivalent light at a cheaper price (total parts cost of roughly $60USD.

If I can see the math about why this is not a great decision that would be cool as I'd like to be able to work it out myself

1.3A is fine.

Max current the Vero 18 can handle is 2.1A

You are only get about 39 watts each cob using Vero 18
 
OK thanks, and this is where my issues are in regards to learning...

I can source some CXB2530's in 3500K.. was thinking of running these instead. Cutter.. cause they are local.

As a side question, can someone explain the relationship between Volts and Watts. I know that if I have 36V @ 100% efficiency (just for calc purposes I know this is not realistic) then running @ 1000ma then my driver would be generating 36w.

What happens if I have a COB (say the CXB2530) that can draw more Volts than the driver can supply, I am limited by Volts obviously?

Can I think of it like this... if I had a Vero 18 with a driver that supplied 2.5A but only 25v.. it would still cook it? But a Vero 18 with a 45v driver @ 1300ma would be OK? Am I aiming to keep Volts or Amps under the MAX range?

If you don't have enough Vf it will not cook...just don't light or flickering!
If you can source the cxa 2530/40 it would be a good light @700mA or less!

Hi Folks! I'm wondering if someone could give me some wiring advice? I have a 3x3x6 (1x1x2m) grow tent and currently use a 600W HPS. I've been taking in those excellent videos and reading the posts from Growmau, Supra, Littlejacob and the many others. That stuff's really indespensible.

I want to get 6 of the Vero29-2 leds and run them in two rows using 2 HLD-180H-c1400B drivers. The choice of the Vero29s is closely linked to the rapidly sinking A$ but as a bonus there is no soldering and they have a built in holder. I won't be using reflectors as the tent reflects enough. I'm happy with all that.

I intend having the drivers outside the tent probably super glued to a piece of aluminium as I have read somewhere here. That will give me two dimming switches (which could be good). What I would like to do is join both drivers using wagos to the one power cord. Is that possible? Could I add the fans driver to the same cord using the wagos?

The driver for the fan would be an Meanwell APV12-12. I think I can get away with 1 driver. The 6 fans run at 12v and 0.01-02a. The driver is 12v and 1amp.

I'm wondering where the ground wire comes into play? Should the drivers be grounded or should the ground be attached to the metal fixture holding the cobs?

For heatsinks I'm using computer fans with attached heatsink. In the video Growmau taps the holes for the screws to hold the cobs. Littejacob uses self taping screws. As the only tap I have ever turned is the one water comes out of I'm tempted to follow Littlejacob's example. What do other people think?

I think I get most of it – there's a lot there – but I'm a bit cautious about the wiring, Any advice on wiring or anything else is most welcome. Thank you.
 
Woz.. I am still new here but local, most of these guys are USA based so you wont get feedback till over night.

Based on what you said that driver can run 4 @ 1400ma or the HLG-120H-C700 can run 6 @ 700ma. I don't know how to do the efficiency calcs so you'll have to wait for the others to jump in.

Can't answer the rest yet.. still learning like you! (plus I don't want to be the guy that gives you advice that burns your house down :P)

Hello everybody, this is my first post !
I have been following this forum closely and with all the information gathered I would still be very happy for some reply to my idea of how to create a growlamp for my 1m x 50cm growroom.

I plan to use Philips SMD3030 LEDs:

On the page 3 you can see the 70 cri, 80 cri and 90cri LEDs

If I used 3500K LEDs and ran them with say 80mA, would it be best to use 90 cri ones: L130-3580003000W21 ?
I am aware that lm/w falls drastically with 90 CRI, but nominally these LEDs are run with 120mA, (88lm/w), 100mA (125lm/w), so by running them with 80mA, I would get better lm/w. Same time the Red area 650nm would be about 80% effective compared to 80 CRI's 60%.

Obviously 80 cri LED would have even higher lm/w, but same time it would be lower in the read spectrum.

What do you guys think about this choice? Would you still go with 80 CRI If run with lower mA than the nominal is ?

And a second question, If I add deep red and blue SMD3030 LEDs to that mixture, what Percentage do you suggest using those LEDs?
How many 3500K white ones compared to deep red and blue ones?

I would be very happy about some reply.
