Hello All. Just a simple question for CXB3590 DIY. I need to cover 10х4. How much cobs do i need for this area.
Active cooling, efficiency is not an issue while budget is.
Sorry for my English, not too much practice.
18 CXB3590s 100watts to each one with optics.IMO

Your dropping efficiency from roughly 52% down to 40%
CXB3590 CB 36V x 24 @ 1.4A 1172 50c dissW / 605.57 par w
CXB3590 CB 36V x 12 @ 2.8A 1247 50c dissW / 493.44 par w

Comparing similar 50c dissW for 1.4A vs 2.8A you gain 112 par w driving them at lower current.
I understand that efficiency isnt the goal with this particular build as the poster stated but budget is and buying 2.8A drivers vs 1.4A drivers is going to cost much more IMO

Good middle ground would be invertronics EUC-320S210DT(ST). Drivers will cost a little more but not huge.

This is the latest Supra's menu we are serving with Arctic 64 Plus CPU coolers and Heatsink USA bars. You need 6-8 units of any of these combos for 10x4

@43.3%
(4)Vero 29 3500K @ 1.4A (51W ea) $112
(1) HLG-185H-C1400 $65
202 dissipation W -> 114.5W heat ->
active cooled heatsink 4590 cm² -> 3.5"X36" $45 + 80mm fan+psu $10
(4) lenses $16
87.4 PAR W covering about 5ft² = 783 PPFD
$248 = $2.84/PAR W

@45.7%
(2) CXB3590 3500K CD 36V @ 2.5A (91.65W ea) $95
(2) HLN-80H-36A $90
183 dissipation W -> 99.37W heat
(2) Arctic 64 Plus CPU coolers $26
(2) lenses $8
83.63 PAR W covering 5 ft² = 749 PPFD
$219 = 2.62/PAR W

@49.7%
(2) CXB3590 3500K CD 72V @ 1.05A (75.5W ea) $95
(1) HLG-185H-C1400 (running at ~1050mA) $65
151 dissipation W -> 76W heat ->
passive cooled heatsink 9120cm² -> (2) 10"X10" heatsink $75
or
active cooled heatsink 3040 cm² min -> 3.5" X 30" heatsink (for spread) $40 + 80mm fan+psu $10
or
(2) Arctic 64 Plus CPU coolers $26
(2) lenses $8
75 PAR W covering 4ft² = 840 PPFD
75 PAR W covering 5ft² = 672 PPFD
$243 = $3.24/PAR W passive cooled
$218 = $2.91/PAR W active cooled on bar heatsink
$194 = $2.59/PAR W active cooled on CPU coolers (uniform spread, best value?)

@ 56.3%
(4) CXB3590 3500K CD 36V @ 1.4A (49W ea) $190
(1) HLG-185H-C1400 $65
196 dissipation W -> 85.7W heat ->
passive cooled heatsink 10284cm² -> 5.88" X 38" heatsink $72 (could split in 2 to improve uniformity/spread)
or
active cooled heatsink 3428cm² min -> 3.5"X36" heatsink (for spread) $45 +80mm fan +psu $10
(4) lenses $16
110.3 PAR W covering 6ft² = 824 PPFD
$311 = $3.07/PAR W passive cooled (great value point IMO, very efficient use of driver)
$326 = 2.96/PAR W active cooled

Can someone tell me the difference between the c1400a and the c1400b meanwell drivers please and a viable alternative as not up for waiting 6 weeks to save money

Page 1 just below all product certification's logo.
http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/260/HLG-185H-C-spec-264052.pdf
A : IP65 rated. Constant current level can be adjusted through internal potentiometer.
B : IP67 rated. Constant current level adjustable through output cable with 1~10Vdc or 10V PWM signal or resistance.

I hear B can do 10% to 100% with a simple 100k Potentiometer however with A only 50% to 100% dimming with built in potentiometer

So for the layman, I can use either to run 4 cobs @ 200w
yes it is only the different options for dimming the drivers output power. A version can be adjusted with screwdriver through on board pot from 50%-100% of its rated output. The B version requires a little more electronics knowledge and some external parts but can dim from 10-100%

I have plenty of experience with smd 0603 leds and wiring small 3mm diodes for case mods. Adding a 3 pin pot is a walk in the park lol

Driver cost would be substantial for me here in Canada that driver is approx $90 and you would need one for every COB so 4 times the cost, but if you run the COB's at 1.4A you can get 4 onto a single HLG-185H-C1400
No one of those would run 4 36 volt cobs at 2100ma

i dont know anything at all about leds accept that they are cheaper to run then other type of lights and can potentially get the same yeild as say a 1000w hps. Which would be my best choice in a 3x3x6 dr90 grow tent. something equaling 1000wHps
