600hps is minimum for 4x4. High yielding strains won't mean anything unless u have the right watts per sqft
Ok so maybe I would be better off saving a little money and get the 2x4 tent? all my plans have been delayed as my room mate is recently uncomfortable having illicit plants in the house. but I may just end up saving my money for a down payment on my own house to rent so I can get my shit going. but ya when I get there Im thinkin 2x4 600w hps would be the best way to start up from what yall are tellin me. Btw just want to throw out a big thank you to all who have come to my aid with great advice! Its good to know this kind of shit from people who are experienced before I just go and blow all my cash. Much appreciated. :joint:

Check into CMH also, better spectrum and less heat. There are members here using them with great results.

What kind of distance are you keeping them at,do you have a way to measure your output (umoles)?
I'm gonna end up answering my question aren't I. Distance as required, I do have a cheap Lux meter. Iv'e seen the reds mounted to the same surface (with vero/cxa) so the distance would be determined by cxa distance. I guess I was just asking for the current most efficient Red folks would recommend, there don't seem any high powered options? There are so many experiments and grows using so many different setups here..

(Thanks CM)

Whats your distance at 700 ma without reflectors? I have a 700 ma driver I could hook up and take some readings if you need.

Iv'e been reluctant to get closer than 5/6" with them bare as I'm away during the week a lot CM (so thought i'd try reflectors or lens) I can test a comparison between lightsources, wont any result be null by the fact that there are only 'so' good red compared to high powered cob, just the ration to be determined (i'm not sure that I can mount them other than at the same height as COB). Overall i'm expecting that getting the reds as close as possible to the tops while under-driving the cobs as much as possible will be the good thing. I'll look back at other builds again. Thanks CM.

this whole thread is way interesting. making me consider a lot of angles of my grow that I never really thought of before. wattage per spare foot is not exactly a concept i was familiar with I was always told stuff like "well you can have maybe 3-6 plants per 1000w light..."etc I need to do a lot more reading.

I did look into these lights. they look like they work great its just a little extra money to save, nothing out of my reach. I have heard good and bad things about the heat output though. whats the scoop on that? like approx. how much heat IS produced?

Choosing production units is not hard! optic lighting or A51! Unless u do the diy.? There are not any other companies to even consider! This is my opinion!

Okay guys I have a dumb question. I still haven't got around to getting everything set up just moved into a new house. I was looking at my a51 rw75s and they come with 2 rope ratchet hangers but have four posts on the lights. So the question is do I have to buy two more hangers? I've never used anything but cfls so it's a bit different for me hanging things. I tried one on each side and the light will not hang straight. Maybee I just don't know how to use them.

First of all, Im glad that Im here and that I red few posts on LED technology you guys made... I know nothing of LED, nothing in any way, but when I was about to buy some panels (well advertised on some other forum) there was little logic and a lot of nonsense that triggered my "inner" instinct or whatever and I refused to buy 2x600 W panels for a 4x4 area... Then I found this forum and what I saw here, proved that my inner instinct was right in every way. So Im here now with questions :) .I have a 4x4 area (120x120 cm , 3 meters high) , and I wanna buy LED for it. I would like to know best options for it (not some high end stuff like apache, and not some mumbo jumbo...).

Just a page before all is said it seems :D , well then, its HID for me now until LED price drops down, or I will buy some Mars II cheaper LED. What do you think on Gavita 600 for a 4x4 place? I need 750 w power for a 4x4 right? So its not that good?
