I've heard hps can stretch, but hps is mainly used for flowering, get a cheap MH light, I also use MH lights for flowering so it won't be a waste and they are normally cheap, but in the end it's really up to you and your budget.

Use it. I have done complete grows under HPS. Pro advice is this: if getting just one - MH or HPS - buy the HPS.

I am a first time grower and would like to know something. I understand most people use a florecent light during the Vegetative state then switch to HPS for flowering & budding. I have 2 1000 watt HPS lights with 15 plants. I dont have the money to spend on more lights so i was wondering if its ok to use my HPS lights during the whole process? Please help. I have heard that there is not much of a difference but wanted a 2nd opinion. thank you.
Do it. I have and will. I have some MH but if just one light always make it HPS.

My veg cab has a 125 watt flouro bulb that I keep my clones and small veg plants under until they are in bigger pots. Once they go into their 2 gallon pots the are under a 150w hps. My flower tent is 1000w hps. I have great bushing on my plants that i take from clone and am able to manipulate accurately. I say go with what works for you and what you have at your disposal. Not everyone can jump right into a perfect setup! Keep it green!

I've got both a 1000W HPS set-up as well as a 1000W MH system. I don't even use the MH anymore as the MH is much hotter. I use HPS
in my veg room too. I didn't notice any difference in my plants when I switched vegging from MH to HPS. The difference in heat means I can
run more plants in warm weather.

I say your rockin a thousand its a sick ass light and your plants would love it. Id take your 1000 hps over my 400 MH for veg any day. I say start with a strong ass light from day 1.
