How many plants

For all you 600w HPS users....
How many plants is best under a 600w light? I know its all about what kinda watts n lumens / sq. ft. u wanna go with and how many plants you can fit in that area but at what point do you start to see diminishing returns? I know some of you more experienced guys have found the sweet spot.

I have I have 18 vegging under a 600w right now. You can flower out at nine full sized, plants, but there will be sacrifices in terms of quality/quantity. I have heard people sogging at around 16-25 plants per bulb though.

I also want to state your space and setup will determine greatly on how much bang you get for 600w buck.

i wanna know also, have been playing with numbers, i did 9 last time and ended up with 8.5 oz. Wondering if i had tried 16 what the difference would be....

no lie i have 57 in veg under a 400w in a 3x6 area
Someone always has to one up me. I didn't count clones in the total, like I am sure some people did... jerk, I shake my fist at you.

Anyway, 8.5 oz per plant? Or total? Either way it is not just a light issue, you need to tighten bolts all over your grow. Genetics is your primary factor, I would look into nutes next, then light.

I got 8.5 for that grow of 9 plants under a 600w. Is that bad? People seemed to think it was average, or slightly above even. You think its low???

8.5 oz is 240 grams right? Yeah, that's pretty low. You should be getting that per plant at least.

You should have gotten a good pound outa nine plants.

I average around 2-3oz dried weight per plant, and i use a 400W hps in a bedroom closet.

For people who are getting a pound....how big are u veggin em, and how long is your cycle. I did about 3 weeks veg, and 55 days flower. Pretty short amount of time i think.

well depends on ur strain but i vegged for 4 weeks then flowered for 8-10 weeks. thats how u get MAX yield. along wit wat light/medium.nutes and etc.

I'm old school, i let my plants preflower before flowering, usually around the 2 month mark. Remeber...the first 3 weeks of a plants life is called seeding stage...after that the vegataive stage begins.

So are u guys saying i should veg at least 4 weeks to get max yield? where did u learn that 4 weeks gets you max yield? Just curious, is it personal experience?

Experience yes...lots of it. Preflowering is when the plant tells you it's sex, and that means it's ready to start maturing...flowering stage. Most times i noticed a slight increase in yield (maybe up to 25%)...but the quality was ALOT better.

If your not pullin at least 2 oz per plant dried weight...your doing something wrong.

So whats your preflowering technique if you don't mind sharing. Do you just use a standard 18-6 cycle for 4 weeks, then switch to 12 -12? And out of curiosity, what type of bulb to u use for veg, MH, conversion, hps? FYI im using clones, do u use seed every time?

I usually use clones...and do start from the occasional seed, however these seeds i'm growing now are my first x-breed experiment.

For my small grows i use cfl's...i know some of you can curse...but i did actually notice a huge difrernce in node spaceing...the cfl's promote shorter spacing keeping the plants nice and short and bushy, with some carful trimming and a topping....i was able to get a nice short bushy plant...my gallery has pics of it so go see...that unfortuntly turned out male.

My lighting cycle has always been 24 hours for the first week, after that 18/6, but this time i'm doing 16/8, i read in high times that 18 hours of light and more promotes male traits, and hermies in females. Flowering has and always will be 12/12 untill proven otherwise. I use a 400W HPS.

The 4 week thing i didn't say...i wait till my plants tell me what they are without force flowering.

Clones are different...you can veg them for 2 weeks then flower them...they flourish faster then when you start from seed, but make sure you have strong healthy roots before veeging them, then just flower them.

quick question, is it alright to use hps all the way(for veg and flowering) or is that no good, i know it might sound like a dumb question but im new to this wonderful utopia of a place.

also does anyone know where you can find good inexpensive hps fixtures and bulbs?
