just wondering guys if anyone knows how much space and or how many plants you can fit under an hps. also does the light lose affect the higher above the plants it gets?

do you really need to have a 400 watt light 6 inches above your plants.
now heat is not an issue for me. there is next to nothing coming from my light. i also have 2 70 watt hps lamps and a 100 watt hps.

sitting off to the side i have 6 4 ft 1 tube t8 lights and a bunch of cfls.
at what point are you just wasting light and electricity?
oh and also how can you tell when your girl is ready to chop?

Got enough questions?

I used my 400w for a 4x3 grow area and it worked fine. Most will tell you that a 3x3 is the optium area for a 400w. You can probably do 6 full size plants in that size area.

You will be able to fill at least a 40" by 40" grow space and i would put as many plants as i could in that space. Your giving them enough light and they should grow into sexy plants with big hard nugs. YES! light loses intensity exponentially the distance it is Once the plants are established i would keep it 12in away when there babies maybe a bit more like 18in. Other then that buy good fertilizer and and you should be made in the shade. Or the HPS in this case.

yeah i have a few small plants in there now. 5 girls. and 8 younger ones. i also have another closet where i stick any i cant fit, but it sucks moving plants all over the place.

here is a pic of the other closet im using. i have 6 floro t8 four footers and another 6 cfls. and also the 100hps and 2-70hps lamps. im thinking i should put the 240 in the other closet..

that way id have the 400hps in one 3 by 3 by 5 foot area and then the 240hps and 3 4ft t8s in the other closet.
or should i put all the hps in one closet and the floros in the other. if i knew how to clone id cut ten branches tonight.

I got same size area for my flowering chamber. I got twelve plants in there under one 400 watt hps. To tell you the truth I kinda hope that I have a couple of males, so I can have more room. Not only am I running out of horizontal space, I'm worried about the height. My plants have only been on 12/12 for six days now and most are over three foot tall. A little to much stretching because the limited space.

Thats why I say 6. You have 12 and are hoping for some males to make room and you are only a week into flowering. Its going to be a jungle in another month :hump:

do you guys turn off the lights at all through the night. i always hear that 24 light is good, then i hear 16 hours light is good. i hear a lot of different stuff. what light schedule are you guys using. im about to flower these three plants bringing it to a total of 6 girls , they are in 5 gallon buckets. its tough i wish i could find those square bags, for soil.
i cropped these plants and between that and the better soil, and the hps the difference from last time is just amazing. ive never seen em grow like this. supercropping is the way to go

My 32" X "32" X 46" box with one 400 gives me about 8-10 z's with 4 plants. I personally thinks it's been the best size for me so far for space to harvested weight ratio.

I do 18/6 during veg under 400w MH conv bulb

Then 12/12 for flower under 400w HPS

I try to just let them grow naturally. I am not doing it for anything else but myself so I dont need to try and greatly increase my yields.

Your supercrop looks cool!

7 in 5 gallon buckets atm under 1 400w mh. I use baffles to help with the light spread and will be tossing another 600w hps up to flower with.

im feeling the suppercropping. you know before i came to this site. i would have never imagined that breaking the branches on the plants would do it good. i really cant beleive what the cropping did. im gonna switch the veg room to 16/8 tonight. im wondering though are the plants gonna stretch?

I would do 5-8 with one 400w HPS in an appropriate size room. I have 9 plants under a 600w (used to have 12, damn males!), and I still could fit more in.

I also I have 4x2 foot area I have a few more than 6 plants though. I have 21 in this space and it works .. I have not sexed them yet .... so 20 or so plants small and unsexed is fine .. I plane to sex them and have 8-10 females under my 400 MH *note I have 2 florescent 2 foot lights on the side ... and a cheap argro plant light as well so with a 400 MH 2 florescent (7$ each) lamp and 75 w argo k-mart plant light bulb 13$) so i got 3 lights
Here is my link you can see my see up on my post----> https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/160535-indoor-grow-op-pics-normal.html

I prefer LST over supercropping myself, but to each his own.

As for how many you can fit under one 400, I think the reflectivity in our cab plays a big part. I use baffles (cardboard "walls" wrapped in mylar) hanging from the edge of my lights in a slanted way that brings alot of sidelighting directly onto my plants.

It looks like this except the angle is better. I notice a huge difference when my baffles are in place.

Thats a cool idea man .. I like ... that is with like a foil reflective surface right ... I hear that can focus light spectrum's and and burn and damage plants .. Just wondered what you think.. and yea Im unsing all my space to say the least .. but I have not took out all the males yet but i could see what your gettting at check out the link to see more pics its really not that over crowded and I turn my plants alomost everyday to cpread the light and growth around just incase... But after sexing them it will clear out .. seee what I mean

It's mylar, not foil, so it doesn't burn and is super reflective.
You can also use polywrap, which is often found on metallic wrapping paper. The undecorated side will be poly, which has the same reflective qualities of mylar. I got my first rolls of that at the dollar store around x-mas time. Well worth it. Just being able to create those slanted baffles, that I can move around as needed, has helped me manage my plants under one light.

And I would use Maxi Bloom, and maybe add something like KaBloom in your 5th week and 6th week.

i heard that white paint is the best you can use. not true?. at present i have 5 females in the spot, but i have another 8 plants in various stages, from seedling to veggataative. im also using another closet where i put 3 4 ft floro t8s and a couple cfls. are floros enough to bring a plant to flowoer but switch it to hps when it does flower?
or will i be not happy with the growth from floros now that im getting finger fat stems from the hps?
now that i think of it the things ive done to these plants is lst, and suppercropping.
