how low can you go?

I posted in your slow clone grow - maybe you should just flower it instead of veg?
i'd probably try cutting a clone off this one, i have another grow chamber that could be used as a clone chamber
the genetics are just too sweet to let go, out of a pack of seeds, you never know how many good females you will get
seen plenty of horror stories where 7 out 10 seeds(or worse) giving males
and thanks again for the post on the clone page, i really hadn't considered it being root bound, but a quick check seems to have ruled that out

Keep up the awesome work man! Remember people, "this isnt about speed and yield!" He make it clear that he is seeing just how low and small you can get away with. OF COURSE, he would get bigger faster result with more light. Ive seen tons of threads with big lights, but Mr. Growone has got something special here!

Having said that.... man your patience is astounding thank you so much for keeping up with this for so long. I am thinking that perhaps your temps are too low. Ive noticed below 70 when lighted, they kinda slow down a tad. I like to keep mine about 75-78 when lights on and 68-72 off. Ive read that babies prefer closer to 80, but hell, i dunno.

Dont worry about the foil. With the kind of lumens you are generating, i wouldnt think hot-spots are going to be an issue. I cant believe you are having problems with light too close?! I kept some babies under 26w floro's (1 per), until they hit 3" tall, and the bulb was damn near touching them. I burned a leaf resting on ceramic, but it wasnt the intensity of the light. Just seems odd you'd lose all their color at closer. Perhaps you're losing humidity on the leaves and they are getting thin for it?

Anyhow, not to mistrust your call on the lights, i'm just wondering if theres any other factors involved? If its the lights then I'll have to readjust realizations.

Fyi, target closeout internet is selling wireless indoor/outdoor temp/humidity pieces. I got it for about $22 to my door, and it lets me monitor the hi and low humid and temps in the basement, w/o leaving my couch. The transmitter is fairly small. I wonder if something like that could help you monitor the case?http://www.target.com/s/188-7647496-0094358?_encoding=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&keywords=digital humidity&searchSize=30&ref=sr_bx_1_1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=1038576&searchPage=1&searchRank=target104545 Looks like a pda, stylish.
Like I've said, you got me started w/a new obsession, but im gna wait on you to succeed or fail before i do. :weed:

Keep us updated. Remember, if you want to grow to smoke, start others, but keep this tiny tree farm going!! Please?!

Shanus, these thoughts help me keep going, it's been tough
let me clarify my motives a bit, my last grow was 78w cfl in a reflecting tube, it went great - 35g of dried bud - actually a little too well
i got dumb lucky on my 1st grow - a female - but i feel i need 3 plants growing at a time - for clone, variety, etc.
3 plants of my last size were just out of my comfort zone - there is a threshold in NY of 2 oz, below that and your danger is much reduced - so i've broken my wattage into 3 low watt grows

now on the bulb and distance
i think it's only an issue with the clone, that clone i think just has slow growing root ball
the jock horror is now growing normally, it seems to be fine with the light its getting
i do have one of those cheap walmart thermometers that record the min/max of temp and humidity, works ok
but i am probably a bit cool, been meaning to adjust that a bit, going to get a bit of insulation under the pc base

again, thanks for good feedback, i really don't know how it will turn out, worse comes to worse, i get clones and go back to larger scale

another step forward, jock horror is looking fine
the 30 day 'sleeping spell' doesn't seemed to have hurt it
LST'd today, 2nd time is easier

now the clone, ok but not perfect
so i see some of the upper leaf is bronzing
those that closer than an inch from the bulb
leaf further away are nice green
it must still have a small rootball after 60+ days!
i'm new to cloning, so this is a bit mysterious to me

ok, another close look at the clone, was sure it was a small root ball
well, it's not, look a little close and there are roots all over the place
this is a 2 quart pot, plant is no bigger than 6 inches from base to tip
some good growth, some bronzing growth
don't have a good feeling about this, i think i'm seeing some major root bound issues
i'm pretty sure that a 2 quart pot should take me further than this
but it's not, so i'm thinking i'm going to have to make a major change
and i think it's the answer to this thread's original question, at least for me
i don't want to let this clone die, i need her bad
so i think i will go back to my prior grow chamber, the 'grow tube'
i'll update this thread, but i fear i've hit the wall here
oh well, had to try the micro setup - as usual, all advice feedback welcome

just a final post here, and some summing up
well, as the log shows, had a bad experience growing in the PC/micro setup
and it seems to have been the small pots that have hurt
so i've gone back to a larger setup, here's the link to the new grow for any interested

https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/281070-salvaging-pc-grow-back-tube.html

for a final pic, this is the jock horror - and it has dramatically recovered, looking great!
but i have no faith this will last, i'm missing something with these smaller pots, soil/feeding issues i would guess
so this plant will go into a new grow chamber soon

Like I said in the beginning, that micro grows are waste if time..yes, they look cool and should be done only once for fun..
And once again we found our way back to the tube..that makes me only happy growone...

Good luck to you back to moving to the tube...That thing is simply amazing in my opinion....:peace:

you called it good growspace, micro if it works isn't easy, +rep for the good advice
had to get it out my system i guess
so i guess i'll work on stealthing my tube setup a bit better

hopefully the last pic for this log
the jock horror comeback is pretty wild
look back about 5 pics and you can see how miserable it was
may seem a bit strange to call this grow setup a failure
but i can see the roots shooting though the 2 quart pot
so into a 2 gallon pot she will go, and a new grow setup

Damn, I cant believe after all this time you didnt try and grow her until she died :wall:. Wish your attempt had ended in happier times.

You have however inspired me to try a cpu LST grow for cloning purposes. I am using the case currently for germinating in little dishes, and getting to sprout before I move em under the hid's. So far its working great. My tub is 7qts, so I imagine Ive about a gallon and a half. Im not sure I buy in to the hype about needing so much soil. I did a grow that was about 1.5gal each, and they finished out pretty damn big.

Anyhow, I digress.... There's actually 8 peat pots with sprouts in the tub within the cpu case atm. I have another tub that fits over the soil for a dome, so I hope it'll work for clones. Ive never done cloning, but looks like 50watts is enough! Heres a pic of my case and the galaxy sprout it made. They sent me 1 fem for free, and eureka!!! shes an infant already.

Thanks for keeping up such a good record and having the patience. Hope your future grows yield you the exact ammount your lookin for. :weed:

thanks again for the interest in this experiment Shanus
the reason i stopped when i did was my weed supply from my previous grow will only go so far
did the calculation, and had to make a change
both plants actually thrived in the new setup(actually my old setup)
the nl#5 is in flower, the jock horror turned out to be a male!
all that work for a male plant, well you never know
you can see the plants in their transplanted homes in from grow signature
it wasn't light, and 2 very different strains really struggled in small pots
i tried to feed heavily, but it just didn't make a difference
my current grow is only 78w of cfl's, so i'm still micro by most standards

the clone did pull through, real nice right now, into flower and about 20 inches tall
my sig has the grow log of the change in equipment and current flowering pics

I made the cpu micro grow. It did wonderfully until about 6" tall and i just ran out of damn room. I ended up putting them in the main room to flower, just to see what a tiny plant yields. I must say tho. To get maybe 5 plants up to transplant, this is the ticket. Of course, if i ever figure out how to clone.....

Thanks for the idea

Shanus, that's where i got my jock horror to, about 6 inches(i think)
the nl#5 just stopped dead
anyways, thanks for the report, +rep for sharing the knowledge
actually, i found the pc to be a nice, stealth cloning chamber, i guess that's my one useful result from this 2 month's of tough growing

thank you sir, especially after your read through this 'grow'
still plotting a more micro grow, but it will be with a bigger pot
