How deep do your LED's penetrate?

Been using the Vero Gen 7 COBS for about a year. I like them just fine. I run 2 at around 90w a piece in a 2x2 tent.

The top 6-8 inches of my colas are great. Frosty, dense, sticky etc.. After that and further down the branch I get a lot of popcorn and really light green bud that seems "under cooked".

What do you guys think? Do you experience this?

This girl is half way through flower. Tonight I turned the light vert.. I'm guessing this should help the situation.. Thoughts?

2011-01-02 22.10.40.jpg The Bottom of a Plant never really gets good Buds on it ,through been shaded by the top growth.Even when using Hps Lights.Just like in nature wild growing Bushes pull the out side growth back and the inner is normally just Twigs,If you are wanting better growth on the Over all plant there are two things you could do Flower smaller ,Sog style or Up lighters LED'S on ground level facing up towards the bottoms,I have done this method with Mars Hydro Led's worked just fine,But i normally just strip all the bottoms off,And just concentrate on the Big tops ,any buds that remain in the mid section normally turn out ok ,i make oil or hash from these.I have also used swingers in the hps room ,lights with no hood ,just on the lead, then i drop then into any shaded area a different one each day,This was prob, the best method for getting really nice buds on a large plant .But the bottoms should still have Good amounts of thc on,this is one of my Bottom buds, from my Holy Grail i'm Doing now.Not large But Quality .

I was also curious on led penetration. I want to get HGL 135 Quantum Board to mess with but wondered how far they go down or maybe 2 standing vertically, 1 on each side if not that good on top could work.

Its Important to take the plants growth into account,The way you grow your plants will play a major part in how deep you get the light to Penetrate the plants .For Eg a Scrog is a great way of getting big yields, but you have to strip the bottoms of .Well you don't have to but they are a waste of time,No matter what light you use,you will find it hard to find one that will get through the screen,Unless you have a light below the screen.I have been using a Cage the last grow and that worked fine,But you are all ways going to get shaded areas,no matter what you do.The only way you will get good buds from top to bottom is Flowering Clones or seedlings at around 6 inch. Also another method is Cut plant numbers down ,so that a plant has room around it all the way through a grow, that way its getting light all way round it.But use the right light and the right method and you don't have to worry about the Bottoms ,you will get all the bud you need from the tops .You only really get good Bud on the top 2 ft of a plant. One of the reasons i have cut my height of flowering down in the led tent,I'm happy with my results in the hps room,so nothing changes in there.I hit 2 lb from 2 plants dry in the hps room,6 oz dry, from the one plant in the tent under the Mars Led,And Bud Quality was real high grade. You will get Fluffy buds, everyone does get a bit,but its making use of it ,Put it to use.Making Oil or hash,I do my hash the old Moroccan way beating it over a screen,A bubble bag over a tub works a treat ,Or dry ice And just shake the bag with the dry ice in over a clean work surface,Then compress into a block .Give me hash over bud any day.

I think my 400 HPS grew bigger/longer colas... Still, I don't miss the heat and the quality has been very good from the LED.. I'd like to try quantums also. They have become readily available and affordable. Timber has a decent setup for sale.

This is where plant training plays a big role. Any cob rig is going to have 'hot spots' centered on each array. This gets exaggerated on higher power cobs like you're using. By training the plant to produce a flatter canopy you'll get a better yield. Enjoy the benefits of your labor.

Absolutly correct. 180W cob replaces abought 350w hps so yes the 400w hps produced a lil better. Penitration depends on light intensity. 400W or its equivlent (cobs in your case) penitrates abought a foot. 600W hps/315 cmh/300w cob will do abought a foot and a half. 1000W hps/ 550 cob/ 630 cmh 2 feet.
King...1000w de hps/ 660 cob/ 990 cmh while running co2 2.5 foot colas for the comerical harvest

There's a pollen sack on your plant

Nobody mentioned that you can harvest the ripe buds and let the lower buds remain to ripen under the now exposed light....Bout 2 weeks longer.
These "late harvest" buds tend to be more intense and higher in THC concentrations..Terp profiles change a bit and are more pronounced in flavor.

Lower buds tend to be higher concentration anyway.....Those mains are pretty but other buds tend to be more potent. No shit...

I Have never had this problem with my 6ft plants under De HID.:bigjoint:
Bullshit. I have a friend with a warehouse spot that runs 2 dozen 1000w DEs over 6 footers, and he has larf on the bottom foot or two of his plants. This has nothing to do with light penetration - it's called apical dominance.

I run a DE 750(along with 315s) over 5 foot plants, and even the plants directly under the DE have larf on the least developed branches. But no more or less than my cob/pcb setups. I would actually say I possibly get less larf using LEDs due to the spread, as opposed to a single light source.

sorry, you and your friend have this problem, along with anger issues. I Have NEVER had this problem, As I said.

I am running 4 x 100watt vero29 and one 100watt Cree CXB3590
It’s my first run with them but so far so good.

I got 1 small auto that is 16”.
Too of plant about 14” from lights
The bottom buds are nice and firm. The tops are like cement :hump:
Getting chopped in 3days

I got another auto that it’s about 32”
Got to about 5” from the COB and started to get a little light bleaching.
Moved it to 8” from light.
This plant is got good coals about 16” long. Below that the buds are less developed.
But still have atleast 2 weeks to go.

So I would say vero29s penetrate nicely.

You learn to trim the non apical branching and bud sites.

Depends more on your style/setup and strain/pheno how far down you get penetration imo. I have some that get nice dense buds all the way down, some that have larf in the bottom/centre. I use it all and typically 1/2 the plant goes into a sift bin for edibles and the like so not a big deal for me. Training them and opening them up a bit with trellises lets me get decent bud all the way down with the right cuts.

These two were 4ft. sativas with decent bud size and density all the way down...
