The Cool Tube

This is a 430 watt Son T Agro hps bulb,,sandwiched between a couple of 4 inch pvc plumbers fittings(one elbow,,and one open ended adapter) inside a Bake a Round Bread Tube I got on-line at She-Bay(where my hunny shops),,a little of the foam insulation is double wrapped and adhered to the tube for air tightedness and fits snugly into each plumber fitting end,,a few screws, hooks and drilling and it's hanging,,feed the wire to the ballast through a pre-drilled HoLE in the top,,and re-connect to the ballast(if ya took it apart,,remember how to put it back ,,write it down,,what wire to what wire,,don't forget the ground)

Keep on Growin

HoLE

question hole! the open ended pvc, does that just stay open or is it sealed up at all. I bought my pvc and ducting yesterday, just waiting on the bake a round now!

The bake a round it totally awesome idea, but if you are a cheap bastard like me, I picked up a cylindrical straight walled hurricane lamp shade from Michael's arts and crafts store for like $8. The pyrex looks like a far more robust option though. Who knew getting dragged to craft stores my mom as a kid would eventually help. I might have to go to my local flea markets /swap meats and keep an eye out for some bake a rounds though.

I use a hurricane lamp cylinder that I got at Michael's for 7 bucks. The ducting I already had so my total cost was....7 bucks. :) It works great.
I grow in a tent (with a 400w HPS)that was an oven untill i made the DIY cooltube. I couldn't get my plants anywhere near the light without toasting them. Now i can have my tops as close as 6 inches of the light without a problem. I use an open ended design so its a cooltube/exhaust.

thxs BIPOLAR JOINT,,,much appreciated:mrgreen: ,,,I am a tradesman,,a roofer,,you should see me re-plywood a house,,better than original,,I have a https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/235618-new-build.html already up and running,,,thxs again

Awesome box man.. very nice setup.. that will be my eventual upgrade template now.

You basically have the super beefed up version of my current grow... I'll consider mine the baby version of yours. Made out of cardboard and a 150w instead ;)

I'd love 430 watts.. gah.. that'd make some sick weed. Very jealous..

would a 3 1/2in.by 14in. bake'a'round be sufficient for a normal 400w hps? and I can just take the socket off my hood to use?
I really hope it is.......

Damn, bro.... Much props for this set-up. I was thoroughly impressed w/ your improvisation! Just curious... Is it that your 'experienced' or does your job description involve some form of engineering;)

that's a nice grow box but i would check the temps under 18/6 since temps might get hotter or and a Thermostat

thxs man,,temps were not bad,,the fan is 495 cfm in a 2 by 2 by 6 area,,do the math,,all I had to do was crank the fan if it got too warm,,and in my opinion,,18/6 will get you 18/6 buds
