Thanks. It kinda sucks to have all my hard work turn out like this. Will the seeds being in it make it take longer to dry the buds? I know that it is too late but i just got done cutting off the male parts that i could see. If i would have known what they where when they first appeared i would have sprayed them with water and cut them all off. Well i am going to stop posting pics of these plants but i will post when i harvest them soon. Thanks for all the replies to this journal and Happy growing to everyone. I feel like i have made a bunch of new friends since i joined rollitup.org. Peace

This hermie thing is what scares me the most about my first upcoming grow. I don't really know much about it, or how to prevent it. Looking back, what would you have done differently?

Great CFL grow btw!

I think the main factor that probably played the biggest part in the one AK-47 to turn hermie was heat. Once you start using more and bigger watt cfl bulbs. You start to have to really keep an eye on the temps in the grow room. If i was to change my setup i would start with my light rig. If any of you are familiar with the book Buds for less. You can see that simple design is the key. I tried to use a home made reflector that although it does great for captureing all the available lumen's from the cfls. I made the mistake of not planning for the heat that is built up within the reflector to efficiently vent out from under the reflector and up to the exhaust fan. So for me to keep the lights within 2inches from the plants tops. I was putting them in jeopardy with the heat stressing them into turning hermie. At least that is the way i see it. So for the next grow that i do with cfls, i will make some simple light rigs like in the Buds for less book. The way he made his is really simple and the heat from the bulbs will go directly up to the top of the grow room. So lets just keep it simple and don't over engineer our home made setups.

buster- so youll be using the hps and cfls 2gether for vegging nd flowering?
I really don't have to vegg my next few grows because i get my clones from a friend. The last two that i got off of them was around 11-13inches tall. And they are only about 16inches tall now after a month of flowering. So next week i am planning on getting 6 more clones and they will be around 18inches tall so they should get real close to the 32 inch tall plants that i want to end up with. And yes to your ?. If i feel that it is needed, i will use a few of the 42w cfls on the lower bud sites with the HPS light on top. I will use the best of both worlds. I am hoping for around 8oz off of the next 6 AK-47's. Wish me luck!

Here is a pic that i love. Too bad this is the plant that pollinates the rest. Just look at the trichs that are all over it. And this plant still has like 4 weeks to go. I think i will just cut them down when i cut the two bigger ones in like a week. I am getting my new clones real soon and i want to have a nice clean room for them. I would hate to set the new plants in the room and then some polin got on them and seed them. I am just going to cut my loses on this grow and start fresh as soon as possible. No real reason to let them waste valuable time just producing seeds. And the sooner i can start over the sooner i can get a descent harvest.

Well as much as i hated to, i took my harvest today. It was about 1 1/5 weeks early for Cagney and Lacey. And about 4 weeks early for the two AK's. They are seeded like crazy so i just wanted to get them out so i can clean the room and get another 6 AK clones in under a 250w HPS light. So here are a few pics of the harvest.

OK guys i would like to here your guess's on the total yeild. I won't have my digital scales until around Sat. so i have no idea what i am going to end up with. Try and take a guess from looking at the pics below. Thanks and Happy Growing.

Here is a pic of them trimmed up. I am going to start the drying of them in the grow room with the lights out. I have about a week before i start my next grow so hopefully they get good and dry in a week. I am going to open the door on them every few hours just to let in fresh air.

Those do look beautiful. Too bad about the Hermie. You think heat caused it?... I would Definitely wipe the room down before starting again.

Wanna get rid of some seeds:mrgreen::blsmoke:
The seeds that are on the AK's will be premature seeds. They are about 4 weeks early so the seeds will probably not be any good. The seeds that are on the other two unknown plants will be good. I am planning on growing a couple of the seeds in the future to see what it is like.

My money is on the heat stressing it to hermie. It is that and we did lose our electricity two times in one week. It messed up the lighting schedule so i am not really positive on what caused it. I would say it was a combination of a couple things that did it.

Can you grow a plant from start to finish JUST with CFL's?, and if not what lights do you use for different stages of developement?
