because consensual crimes don't exist...

prostitution, gambling, drug use, suicide--all personal choice affecting no one else; all currently illegal (by and large). I totally agree with you that a legal to grow, posses, and use, illegal to sell would be preferable, but it doesn't look like that's the way we're going. That's why my hopes are in coalitional strategies (a la gramsci): grouping the cannabis legalization movement with other factions of activism like the green and gay rights movements to recognize common goals and throw support together in such a way that the majority of goals of each movement are achieved.

preferable would be just make it legal that includes legal to sell. however I know the pitfalls of that approach that is why i say "legal to grow and possess, Illegal to sell". I get people accusing me of being a prohibitionist for that stance becuase they assume I am against legalizing the selling of Pot. i am not. But i am also not naive enough to think that is the best course of action or the easiest one. There is no way to legalize the selling without regulatory control. And it also puts it back into that sphere of Drug dealing which still has a stigma attached to it

I like the ideas of grouping and coalition strategerizing (did I get the Bush enunciation right?) I've got some feelers out in some other groups and ideas are coming together. We still have 8 months to get this worked out and spread.

So individual sales (person to person) would be illegal, while you could still grow, possess, and even share amongst friends... while having a regulated system in place for those that don't have the time/want/need/whatever to grow and want to just run to the corner store like they would for a brew?

Sounds plenty reasonable to me.

Full scale commercialization will bring in regulations that can also impact those that want to grow their own

For example:
In Arizona it is illegal to grow any amount if you live within 25 miles of a dispensary
In all medical states they have a plant count
Now I want you to imagine that instead of weed. You want to distill alchohol. Look at all the regulations and money you need to follow or come up with to do that. In effect it is damn near illegal to even try it unless you have a half million dollars to start

I honestly don't know much about distilling alcohol, so I can't speak to it on any reputable level. However, it is my understanding that the processes involved with distillation involve machinery of sorts and carry more dangers than simple home plant cultivation. Let's try and bring some common sense back into the real of politics and law.

But yeah... plant counts and limits on where you can grow... that shit's gotta go! Get everyone that has ever considered themselves part of the counter-culture to get behind one set of individuals that have no political ties or agendas, other than the decriminalization of weed and other non-partisan issues that all Americans can get behind... like, oh, have all elected members of Congress have to read whatever bill they are voting on before they vote into a web cam for all their constituents back home to see so that they actually know what they are voting on. No "I've read this bill file" on his site, he can't vote when that one comes up. Can't vote for any reason? Pay is reduced accordingly.

This could also have the added benefit of ending piggy back riders on bills. Bills will be short and to the point and only cover one item at a time, instead of tacking on a bridge to nowhere and shrimp fishing subsidies to a climate change bill.

Makes too much sense to ever work, right?
