Help with Lumatek 1000W ballast (+ Karma)

Hi,

I currently have only the lumatek 1000W ballast and the power cord.

I do not have any cord or hood to connect the ballast to.

I do not know if the ballast works.

I tried plugging in the electrical cord to the wall with it in the ballast, and no lights showed up where I can change the wattage (400W, 600W, 1000W, & super lumens). Also, the fan did not turn on when I plugged it in.

So my question is, does my ballast work? or does it need a hood to connect to it, for those functions (lights & fan turn function on the ballast)
