Help needed for new wardrobe setup =)

Hey guys,

I've recently bought the below cupboard and am looking for some advice as to best set up my grow. In the 2nd picture I have indicated how I think I should set it up.

Here are the specs: Main compartment 3 x 1.75 x 5 ft (LWH) and the top shelf is 3 x 1.75 x 1 ft. The rez (using DWC) itself is 1ft tall. The top shelf is vented along with the main compartment by two 4 inch passive holes in the shelf. I plan on having a very small mother and clone area in the remaining space on the shelf. The 400W HPS is in a closed circuit ventilation system and cooled by a 275CFM 6inch fan. There would be 2 4inch passive intakes behind the rez.

What do you think? Would you make any modifications?

As you can see there's a reasonable amount of head room (4ft), but I still think a scrog would be best, perhaps using a V shape to try and maximize the available room. Any suggestions here?

I am considering adding flexible silencers to combat the noise problem by just hanging the fans vertically rather than horizontally and having them exhaust through the top of the cupboard. I could disguise the silencers on top with boxes or anything like that.

Does that seem like a decent idea?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Cheers =)

well looks like a well thought up setup. but heres a few sugestions for you which may help. First off, 12" of height for your mother/veg chamber realisticly is not nearly tall enough. figure a 5" height for plant setup, then say... 10" growing space, and then another 4" for the room your lights will take up. so, plan on making the mother cab atleast 20" tall, but that should not be hard for you at all. Another suggestion, 400hps might be a bit too much for your size. Consider a 250hps w/cooltube and some suplamental cfl lighting for those lower buds. If stealth is any issue, consider the 6" 150-->250 cfm panasonic whisper line of fans, imo the best fans outhere for this type of grow. goodluck with the grow man

Hello anyone.. I have very similiar wardrobe for my plants. This is my first grow and after gleening from the internet my plan is as follows... This is for two plants 1. 6 weeks vegging with 24h 200w blue cfl and couple of small cfls. 2. Add 400w Red HID growlux and switch lights to a timer at 12/12 until ready. I am not intending to use a fan as the room has good ventalation and i can give them airing during light periods. I will use some nutes once the plants are a few weeks old. Im not trying to grow anything special - just some nice weed for myself to smoke.. I got some good seeds from Amsterdam. Im sure these type of questions are boring but any advice would be appreciated. Sophanox - wardrobe design has given me a few ideas.. thanx and good luck.

Thanks for your input mate. Unfortunately I can't adjust the height of the shelf, it's fixed in place - so I'm gonna have to make do with a mother area that small. I dont plan on vegging in there, only keeping a mother and rooting a few clones so it's not so bad. With regards to the light, I hope I am alright with a 400w in there, i've been deadset on using it for ages! I think the fan should be powerful enough to cool it so fingers crossed! Those panasonic whisper fans look wicked man and I have read good things about them elsewhere...but they are pretty pricey and hard to find where I live. Just4ulondon, keep an eye on this thread man you may find some good ideas here! Thanks for the help so far =)

you'l be fine with a 400w light in that space i run a 600w light in a similar space ;) the fan size should be enough might even be too much i use a 150mm ruck temperature control fan http://www.aquaculture-hydroponics.co.uk/product.aspx?categoryID=449&subCategoryID=449&productID=1884 it has 3 speeds 167cfm, 359cfm, 412cfm with the ambeint room temperature about 20oC the fan runs pretty much constantly on its lowest setting only switching to the middle setting very occasionally. if it was more powerful i'd have trouble keeping the wardrobe up to temp and thats with a 600w hps in there you might need to get a speed controller for the fan to get it too the right temps but thats all good as it'll just be quieter

Cool mate cheers - that fan looks like a seriously nice piece of kit! does it exhaust the room and cool the light at the same time, or do you have another fan for room exhaustion?

I'd love to see a picture of your setup mate if you've got any? How do you incorporate a carbon filter into your ventilation?

I toyed with the idea of putting a 600w in there, but surely being able to get the 400w that much closer makes up for the loss of lumens and makes keeping the grow room cool easier.

Thanks a lot!

tbh i bought the 600w first without really thinking about cooling it properly but with a little (quite alot) money you can get round that ;)
me box isnt fully built yet i did start a journal on building it a few months ago but didnt realise it would all take so long. anyway heres some pics starting from the bottom up

passive air intake + filter
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0431497/Trail/searchtext>FILTRETE.htm
its needs replacing had water spill on it

the false bottom with air holes drilled into i want to cover it in fabric to make it work more like airsock

the air leave cab into chamber next to it. i decided to just box the area in rather than try to fit duct in there

up on top of cabinet

box removed

filter in box

my future clone/ mother area

thats about it. i still need to do a couple of things like quieting down the fan and finish the clone/ mother area but its all mostly there

Wicked pictures mate that helps a lot - cheers man! Looks like you're gonna be growin some seriously good plants in there soon!

I toyed with the idea of getting that fan you recommended as it does seem like a excellent bit of kit, but unfortunately I dont have that amount of money to spend atm. So I think i'm just gonna stick with my original idea, but just vent the cooltube fan up and out the top of the wardrobe via a silencer. The noise then should be considerably more bearable.

What training do you plan on using? It's difficult to maximize space with these wardrobes as they are so tall, i've been looking into vertical scrogs - they produce amazing results.

I'm just starting to set up an old fiberglass shower stall ( 30" x 30" ). It's close to your dimensions. I'm starting from seed and will DWC 4 plants and hope to finish off 2 females. I'll be trying LST or scrog to keep the height down. How many plants are you starting?
