I don't mind people disagreeing with the pro-gun stance of this thread, but ffs, can't they at least put up an arguement that has the slightest bit of intelligence attached to it? Instead we get, your a ni**er, your all rednecks, your a wannabe gangster. Ignorance is bliss I guess...

Intelligent arguments from an anti-gun enthusiast? Isn't that a bit of an Oxymoron.


Too many people are ignorant and overly opinionated, Armed with false knowledge because people don't know how to research anything for themselves anymore.

This applies to people in general! Everyone is overly opinionated and knows nothing besides what they are told (generally by the fucking media), hence, marijuana is still illegal in the states!

People are getting lazy. So many people are so quick to regurgitate what they hear on TV (news media is a joke these days) or hear from someone without actually doing any research on the subject themselves. It seems like no one takes the time to do a bit of research and form their own educated opinions these days.

Ignorant and armed with false knowledge, these people go out and spread the false knowledge and the process repeats.

Ignorance is like a virus, BS stories never take long to get around. You come around with some BS story you hear from someone and people assume its all true, then pass on the BS.

These days it seems like its harder to prove something that is true.

I understand that but I'm a member of the anti-gun mob so to speak. I understand rights and self-defense as well as if not better than the next guy, but my personal experiences are filled with gun-related deaths and not one case where a gun was used and I would say, okay, good thing they had a gun. Also any arguments citing the Constitution should be rethought because the amendment citing right to bare arms was put into place with a regulatory system in which the summary of the US's local militias would have equal armaments to the US military, to keep political power in check. Obviously, this was scrapped along the way, but the amendment was never changed because no one in politics had the balls to point out simple history.
But the main reason I am against firearms is simply my firsthand experiences. One of my friends killed by gunfire was Luís-Miguel Suro, the Mexican artist who made famous his "suicide pistols" series, nightmarish pistols re-imagined to fire back on the user. He saved his father from a thug's bullet who was robbing his dad's factory and was killed instantly. For such a caring person who had such a solid stance on the issue, based on a lifetime in areas where gunshots were the normal backdrop, to be killed by a legal gun said a lot to me, and forced me to re-evaluate my views on gun control.

Guilty of what?...

I'm not in the US so we don't have a constitutional right to bear arms. This doesn't mean that guns should be outlawed, we have some of the toughest gun laws in the world.

If you had firsthand experience where someone had been killed by a car would you then change your views to outlaw cars? What about alcohol? Should we outlaw that too because some people can't handle their piss? Where does it stop? Government need to stop trying to control people, isn't this the point of democracy?

I thought one of the biggest issues on rollitup was to prevent the government for removing our right to make our own decisions...

That's an ineffective comparison. Cars are tools with many many uses which come before running people over, and we accept that while countless disasters occur involving them, all in all our lives are better for their existence. This is not true of the gun, whose sole purpose is to fire a deadly projectile, and so whose existence does not seem to justify itself in the way a car does.

Alcohol is a substance which, according to US law, should be Schedule I or II, but is Schedule III simply because America has had its taste of booze and now considers it its right, a lot like guns.

Firearms are separated in a million other ways I shouldn't need to state, but perhaps the main difference is intent. Very rarely are cars or alcohol actually used to purposefully assault someone- not counting the bottles that the alcohol comes in.

If Luís-Miguel, for instance, had been hit by a car, it would have been tough luck. If he had drunken himself to death, it would have been a pity, albeit one he had some responsiblity for. However, having been shot, we can say with confidence that it was an atrocity, and that such atrocities should not be allowed, just like when cars are combined with alcohol.

C'mon mate, you serious? A gun isn't a tool? A gun may fire a projectile but at what point does it become deadly? At exactly the same point when a car is aimed at a person? Alcohol can lead to an action that may not occur when sober, driving a car for instance. Does this make the person or the car more dangerous? Same with guns.

What about a farmer or a policeman? Would you seriously be in favour of declining them the right to use a weapon?

I think you are looking at it too closely. I think it is more about the big picture. Its good to see you can have an intelligent debate though.
