i'm going to keep a running tally, i guess
i'll weigh after the 5-7 dry, then after the 30 day cure
my 2nd cutting should be in another 4-5 days, i've 20 colas left, not quite as big as the smaller cola in the pic, but all are solid, not popcorn

did you ever lower the lights? or did they just sit at the top of the tube the entire time?
i kept the lights right up tight to the plant
i used a stand made of bricks, i gradually lowered the plant by pulling bricks out
this was the chore with this grow, wasn't bad, but was the most labor of the process

That is the KEY to CFL growing. MJ grows so fast you have to adjust either the plant or the bulbs EVERYDAY. The first half of flowering my 1st grow I raised the lights or lower the plants at LEAST twice a day to keep perfect light proximity.

I find it believable you only used 78 watts to grow a main cola bigger than a beer can. Like Mr Ganja pointed out light placement, IS EVERYTHING!

When people mention "the art" of growing with CFL's, I think this is mainly what they are talking about. Sometimes having to move your lights on a daily basis in order to make the best use of the amount of watts you're using.

Good job Growone, I'm way more interested in this kind of grow, over those grows using like 1000 watts of CFL.

thanks for the good discussion, and you said it dead on
i basically did what the cfl's pros preach here, up close and tight
adding the tube/circular reflector to the mix seems to have give the cfl's a bit of extra kick

so i just sampled the spoils a bit, just the trim, but pretty interesting, so a mini smoke report

good head high, definitely an up and do shit, good 2 hour buzz, no let down that i can feel
give a 4 of 10 for potency, 6 of 10 for high quality, no sliding curve for trim, grade like it's bud
bud should be right up there after the cure
now the interesting part, taste was ok, not great, but it's uncured trim, so what's to expect
but there was no harshness, i took in 2 hits, and they were silky smooth, no hint of irritation or cough
so the bud should be pretty damn smooth

Congrats bro! The taste will only get better with the cure. I wouldn't be too upset if I were you! bongsmilie Light one up for me!

the responses i've gotten to this grow are just incredible, much appreciated, when i started i had no idea how things were going to turn out

so a quick mention of the drying buds, it's really wild how much the main cola still weighs, i swear it will end up very close to an ounce
i've watched it like a hawk, no mold(thank god) and it's getting 'frostier', the trics seem to glisten, i'll do a 'dried' weigh in over the next few days for the 1st 2 colas

but the grow, and the harvest, aren't over buy a long shot, there is a shit load of bud 'on the vine' - maybe 3 more days of ripening - so here's what's left

Shit bro, I am not one to guess yield, but I would say you can prolly almost double what you've cut off thus far... Atleast somewhere close. Zip and a half? I am rootin' for yah! Hahaha bongsmilie

The bud has been put into the curing jar, so we'll call it dry at this point. The tally is 15 grams. That is 27% of the wet weight, which is just about where it should be. I thought the large one would come out a bit denser. But no complaints, the numbers are what they are.

The smaller bud has been curing for 2 days. The odor is really wild. Very sharp pine smell. A lot like pinesol. There was the usually grassy odor of weed at the start, but a lot of that has gone after only 2 days of cure.

An update on the smoking quality's. After a few more tries, I'd give the trim a 6 for potency, and for quality as well. It's really strong for trim leaf. Was a very skinny joint, so calling 2 puffs 1 puff, the trim is close to 1 hit weed. Taste was not great, and not going to smoke trim any longer than needed.

So, back to my 'roots', and cooked up some oil. The oil was fair, not great. A skill I would need to work on. Oil is a chore, and a mess. So the way to go I think is the vaporizer. Some great home brew plans here. Gonna try the halogen bulb setup. And of course the last pics of the dried bud.

I was looking at pics right when you posted yours. I left you a comment. And posted a pic of my own. LOL
I love a "trim" high! I get all goofy smokin trim. lol
"cooked up some oil"? Huh what, wud I miss? I make cannabutter with my trimings and stems and everything. Then I make brownies with the butter. MMMMM brownies...

yeah, the trim was pretty good, then i f'd up a bit and made it oil
used the 'vodka' method, didn't have that much trim, so yield was pretty small
maybe will bake up a cookie on the next batch of trimmings
