Grandma's Growing Again

Hi all. Wow, I feel like an old veteran now! I've been on RIU only a short while and already I've learned so much my old brain is going to explode, and I've made a world of new friends. So, I'm ready to start ramping up my game. I have one successful grow from seed to smoke and one completed adoption under my belt.

I've started this thread to capture the history of what I've learned, as well as a place to show my progress and learn more as I go forward. This first post is sort of long, so bear with me.

First of all... in order to understand where I started, meet Alice:

I had just received my medical recommendation and was studying with the thought of growing my own when I got a call from someone wanting to know if I knew of anybody who could take a flowering plant. To make a long story short, I got Alice from a friend of a cousin of my son's ex-wife's boyfriend. The dude got a DUI and it wasn't his first. This one was going to cost him jail time. He panicked and used his one phone call to call his girlfriend and tell her to find somebody to take his plant so she wouldn't die. And that's how I got her. She was a homegrown offspring of an accidental crossing of Strawberry Cough and something else heretofore unknown. So I call her Strawberry Kiss.

I quickly ran to the internet, and all my searches seemed to land on a thread here at RIU, so I joined up and I have never looked back. And Alice's story ended well. For me, anyway

As a matter of fact, Alice's story ended so well, that I gave her another go:

Thanks to the instructions of a mentor I met here, I cut one of her lower buds about a week before she finished. I then treated it like a clone (which, at the time meant exactly zero to me..) and yet, lo and behold meet Alice 2 officially renamed Strawberry Kiss (and her two daugthers... I caught on to cloning real quick!).

My first complete grow is pretty well documented in my journal. If you want that story, click the link in my signature. That story too, ended well for me. I now have 7 pint size mason jars under my bed filled with Grandma's own weed. By the way, for those who don't know me, I am a grandmother who discovered late in life that I have a bit of a green thumb when it comes to growing weed.

Here's my current stash from my first harvest.

My first grow started with three DWC buckets. But I got gifted some clones so they went into soil. So I had a mixed grow, thrown together in a hurry at the end. It went well, but I learned a lot about growing and about myself over the next few months. One, I'm too old for DWC...at least in my current grow spot.

So this grow, I am going to grow with a modified soil. I started with my depleted soil from the first grow and mixed in a little fresh plain potting soil. To this, I added a specially concocted homebrew that consists of all organics. I've modified my soil with bat guano, kelp meal, bone meal, dried blood meal, earthworm casings, marine cuisine, perlite, and probably something else that I'm forgetting.

I have the Strawberry Kiss, pictured above, a Vanilla Kush who has a long, bad history (see my journal) but seems to be doing okay now, and two clones from each of these for a total of six plants in the flower room. Also, last night, I placed two new fem seeds to start. I am germinating a Pineapple Chunk and an OG Kush.

No new pictures for now, but I'd love to see your grows as well. Feel free to post your pics in my thread and let me see your lovely ladies.

I did not know about taking a clone a week before and revegging it.
Thanks
Yay! I shared something of value! I think I'll go have a bowl to celebrate... Yeah BHB, it was really slow going, but fascinating to watch large leaves unfurl from the middle of a petrified bud. It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.

For anybody who cares, here is my new nute line. Everything is mixed into the soil and then the plants only require water. I'll do a little top dressing with the Fruit and Flower, as necessary, and I will be adding molasses to the water as directed.
