Good Types of Soil

What are some recommended brands of soil to purchase for growing marijuana, as far as the good ph levels, starting nutrients, et cetera? I am a beginning outdoor grower, and I would like to do everything right the first time.

Jumped ahead of myself and already found some good brands, but if you still feel like recommending some then please feel free. They might not be listed on the faq and may be good to try. Sorry for the useless post

is that sarcasm or were u serious?

people DO grow in MG soil, but the ones with slow-release nutes in them usually end up badly burning or even killing plants.

I'd steer clear of soils with nutes already in them..you really don't want your seedlings getting any nutes for at least 2 weeks, probably 3.

you could always mix your own soil..

A simple mix is this :

Topsoil 30%
bone meal 10%
blood meal 10%
Perlite 40%
Vermiculite 10%

but there are plenty of other options for soil mixes that will work.

well 1st you start the seed in a rockwool cube or jiffy cube..that means by the time the roots hit the actual soil they are about 3 weeks old.. the mosture control will bring bugs because of the fact there is more mosture left around.. the MG soil with the slow release fert is the way i have proved to be the best... but i was jus throwing it out there.. no need for kids to take it personaly...

Come on man first you say you can use bottled water and the pH will be fine and then you recomend MG. And then you say miracle grow is the best soil!!! The pH of bottled water will differ, it isn't the same all over the world. Miracle grow can suck my dick, it is one of the worst soils to get. The roots from a seedling will poke thru the jiffy pucks in 3-5 days not 3 weeks! Have you even grown before??? The first rule of thumb is to not get time release fertilizers. Get a soil void of nutrients. I use 1pt perlite, 1 part peat moss (both not miracle grow), and 1 part mushroom compost. I add 1 tablespoon of dolomite lime per gallon of soil.

Keep in mind i am only on my first soil grow but i have been using MG moisture control inside and its worked great so far. no burn at all. I started my seedlings in there too and havent had a problem, and they are between week3 and 4 and thriving. I used bc FilthyFletch recommended it and if you have any doubts check out his soil grows.

you did it say it is the best. I don't buy bottled water because it is a waste of money. I aerate my water for 24 hours, and yes I do own a pH tester. I'll go head to head with miracle grow any day, it can't touch any real nutrients that you'd buy at the hydro store! He recomends the mg time release because it is cheap not quality, the book your talking about is how to grow 8 ounces for less than 50 bucks right?

ProMix BX is not discontinued and is available at a lot of nurserys and hydro stores (usually in the 3.8 cf compressed bales). If you want to pay the freight shipping you can get it for $24/bale from here:

Pro-Mix BX, 3.8CF Compressed-International Greenhouse Company Greenhouse Mega Store has everything you need to build, equip, and maintain a commercial, hobby, school or institutional greenhouse.

Good stuff (mix about 60% ProMix BX with 20% additional perlite and 20% additional vermiculite, and enough dolomite lime flour (which Lowes have ... I dont' know about Home Depot) to get the pH right, and you'll have a good mix.

Hey bro just a quick note here. From what I have read MG isin't your best choice, the PH I guess maybe too high. I have looked and looked for a nice neutral PH soil and found a brand named Farfard, they make a complete potting soil that works very well http://www.griffins.com/pdf/brochures/fafard.pdf its the blue bag on the left. Also Fox Farms makes a soil named Happy Frog that is not shabby either FoxFarm Soil & Fertilizer Company Hope this maybe some help to you.
