giving defoliation during flower a try

That's pretty insane alright. That's at least as frosty as the frostiest 'veg resin' plants I had so far. If you rub the stem or even the petioles / leaf stems does it have some lemon smell already? You will probably see the same early frost, stalkless trichs, on the preflowers / calyxes earlier too.

No lemon, but pretty much anything touched on it smells just like a blueberry pie ! I'm really stoked to flower it out soon, I finally have it cloned and I remember when I was taking cuts of it, my fingers felt like I just trimmed a harvest, it was unbelievable. Then I kind of forgot about it until the cuts rooted and I transplanted them and saw the trichs on the tops. I really hope it's something special, I've never seen anything like that before and am hoping the frost carries over in flower :) I'll have to check out the nodes and see if there are any calyx forming up

Lol! Sorry dude, they should come with warning labels lmao! Popping the dab cherry is an intense experience, my first dab I could have sworn I was on acid or something 8-)

Hey, what did you say the blt smelled like, blueberry jam or something? I remember you said your toxic blue Cross smelled just like it?

Here's some pics of the blt clone, ddon't mind the deficiency, I'm learning how to grow in Rockwool croutons :p and ignore the defoliation :(

The growth is SO tight. The clone is maybe 5" tall and has 12 tops growing at the nodes, so compact. There's little calyx swelling by the looks too, maybe they are preflower? I suck at determining those kinds of things

Oh shit dude. Blueberry something. But that cross you got smells just like it did.
I fucking puked 2 times on the way home. You bastard:-D

Lol, mannnn I would have the same thing happen to me if I drank too much, I get serious spins and dizzy if I smoke (even just a bowl let alone a dab) when I'm drinking lol. Can't wait to do it again next year dude!! Lolol jk jk

It wasn't really just the dab. It was the dab AFTER I drank a shit ton. Fucking bullshit man!
Lol

Yes that's a preflower. When they get a little bigger you should see some frost and glitter earlier than usual on those too. The stipules are a tad less frosty then I expected but the bottom of the leaves look very promising.

This was too offensive for RIU and got censored so putting it between spoiler tags in this thread to hide it from the mods...

This might come in handy for some defoliators, apparently there is a new policy that basically comes down to: if you get really butthurt by a meme, you simply meltdown and spam the poster's grow journal or other thread to strong arm the mods into deleting it.

I'll keep a close watch on it and once it gets bigger I'll report back about it before I put it into flower, yours looks crazy good! Total frost on the underside of the leaves, that's bad ass!

lol @ the memes - Did someone troll your thread? wtf?

Yeah keep me posted, very curious to see it later on. I honestly can't say there's a direct relation between veg resin and the amount of trichs later on. The calyxes seem white/frostier early in flowering but in the end the stalked trichs sort of get in the way of seeing it. I do get the impression I more frequently see small trichs sort of lump together in a sticky waxy layer and it does seem to add up:

From: https://drugs-forum.com/growfaq/1529.htm
Although cannabis resin glands called trichomes are structurally diverse, they come in three basic varieties:

upload_2015-4-23_21-46-56.png
  • Bulbous: [yellow, these create that seemingly waxy layer sometimes]
The bulbous type is the smallest (15-30 micron). From one to four cells make up the "foot" and "stalk," and one to four cells make up the "head" of the gland. Head cells secrete a resin - presumably cannabinoids, and related compounds which accumulate between the head cells and the cuticle. When the gland matures, a nipple-like protrusion may form on the membrane from the pressure of the accumulating resin. The bulbous glands are found scattered about the surfaces of the above-ground plant parts.
  • Capitate-Sessile: [blue arrow, not pointing to the most clear example, but these are the ones we're seeing]
The second type of gland is much larger & is more numerous than the bulbous glands. They are called capitate, which means having a globular-shaped head. On immature plants, the heads lie flush, appearing not to have a stalk and are called capitate sessile. They actually have a stalk that is one cell high, although it may not be visible beneath the globular head. The head is composed of usually eight, but up to 16 cells, that form a convex rosette. These cells secrete cannabinoids, and related compounds which accumulate between the rosette and it's outer membrane. This gives it a spherical shape. The gland measures from 25 to 100 micron across.
  • Capitate-Stalked:
Cannabinoids are most abundant in the capitate-stalked gland which consists of a tier of secretory disc cells subtending a large non-cellular secretory cavity. During flowering the capitate glands that appear on the newly formed plant parts take on a third form. Some of the glands are raised to a height of 150 to 500 micron when their stalks elongate. These capitate-stalked glands appear during flowering and form their densest cover on the female flower bracts. They are also highly concentrated on the small leaves that accompany the flowers. The male flowers have stalked glands on the sepals, but they are smaller and less concentrated than on the female bracts. Male flowers form a row of very large capitate glands along the opposite sides of anthers.

Yes, which is ok if you are offended by a meme and want it deleted, but perhaps simply threatening a mod or admin to do it instead of actually doing it is more efficient. They are like the christian god and work in mysterious ways.

Great info, I always thought that there were only 2 types of Trichomes, I bookmarked the page for future reference, very informative. What intrigued me with this blt when it first got a few set of leaves is it smelled great, it didn't have the usual plant smell, like pepper or spices, but blueberries. I've had some plants like my fruity chronic juice that started with some trichs early, but it was no where as stinky and sticky as this one, and then later on in its growth the fcj just stopped producing veg trichs. This blt is carry it over through cloning and has had them in different mediums too.

Sorry about the guy having a melt down man, the forum is no place for a melt down unless it's in a PM or your own thread lol

I look closer at plants from my own crosses than what I've grown before those so it's hard to compare to other strains, but, they do seem to have a more pronounced smell during veg which does allow me to distinguish some plants from others early on. Obviously it's not entirely the same as the bud will smell and taste, but I can for example pick the pine-ish from the grapefruit/melon-ish plants early, as well as the skunky/dark/blend from the more distinct fruity/sweet. And that includes males, which is imo the main benefit. Both the pine and grape/melon happen to be already very strong tastes/smells so not sure how well that works for more subtle smells/flavor.

unless it's in a PM
I didn't bother to respond to those :) Anyway, it's fine, mods did clean it up nicely within minutes without me even letting them know. Just weird that throwing tantrums actually is an effective way to get memes removed. Ah well...

Good thread . I didnt read the whole things since its huge .but I 100% believe defoliation increases yield if used correctly . I grow vertically with 2x 600s .defoliate every week all through flower . Until the end of flower where theres hardly any leaves left .just a cylinder cage around the bare bulbs absolutely covered in buds . This amount of buds wouldnt be possible without taking away most leaves

I don't get into peoples journals much, but if someone is bullshit bombing one shoot me a pm or report it & I'll clean it up.

It got cleaned up nearly instantly, you mods have always done a fine job keeping journals clean. But when that involves rewarding the trolls, as in deleting also the post that triggered the meltdown, on top of the selective moderating (not yours apparently)... if I cared enough I'd point that out with a few memes too... shit just got too stupid.

Ok... just one then:
