Just do it. I think there may be a few others here growing in a not so legal fashion. 
Ha that's encouraging. I'm also wondering how ppl here order equipment etc; online, or physical shops ? As most shops are closed how silly would it be to order couple of light, and maybe even tent and some ferts from well known online stores ? Thanks )Just do it. Exactly.
I had 1 friend who knew what I was doing.
He helped me to redesign my grow room.
Our friendship deteriorated and obviously he mentioned it to someone.
Hey presto I had a knock with search warrant.
That guy has now passed away!
When I got caught I had a mother/cloning station, 600w air cooled system with 4 just turned to flower plants and around 25g of dry bud in a jar.
I got a police caution. 3 months later I was running again.
I don’t sell my gear to anyone and don’t always have a grow going based on how much dry I have.

No one checks anything and if you keep it well hidden the police said they wont bother you.
If you just want to grow enough to smoke and not buy a small light such as 250w hps and three plants will give you enough till next harvest. If you want loads to sell and look cool with then couple 600w hps or whatever is the equivelent is a good start. So weigh up the risks and what grower you want to be, small personal growers have it the easiest and at worst you just feel stupid if ever caught. Theres not always a need to grows lots of cannabis, an oz a month does me fine and thats simple to produce in a small space with smaller lights also fan noise is much smaller than a bigger grow.

The most likely way of getting caught is loose lips..
The second most likely is been stupid, stinking your neighbours kids bedroom out and that getting reported is 100% getting you looked into.
Go on mums. net , there are hundreds of women complaining to the police their neighbours are growing weed, mostly they get ignored but if they say their kids can smell it then action happens.
Be smart, do things properly, be safe in doing so.
I know people that got caught and got no punishment, I know people who had whole houses of grows busted and lost the house but still got C.S.
How much the police give a fuck depends massively on where you are , every county has its own policy and some openly say they will not go after home growers as long as they are not causing a social nuisance. Other counties have less other crime to worry about and would love something to do.

A Google search will reveal a wide range of newspaper articles relating to cannabis sentencing.
There is some very good advice above.
You can't really grow more than a couple of plants to maturity in a residential house, flat without taking over rooms etc and you can grow a high yielding quality product after a couple of attempts with decent advice and a bit of nous.
I would recommend you grow in coco with led lights and have a tent with a quality carbon filter and keep your gob shut.
My wife invited the filth into our house after she went nuts after her dad died and decided i was the devil..(not quite literally ) I had a 12 plant operation with several at harvest and sufficient humming and smell that one of the Pigs was constantly looking up the stairs and someone else in attendance said they could smell weed.
The Rozzers didnt go upstairs and I would probably gotten off wit ha caution and lost my equipment (which is expensive !)
This was the last thing I thought would happen and me and Mrs are happily back together....
You have to think of your situation and stage in life, where you live, do you own the property, is it semi detached, terrace or detached etc.. Those things make a huge difference to what you ought to do if you dont want to get caught.
Coco grows give decent yields without the noise and water issues of hydroponics.
to start with or if you dont have much PRIVATE room to grow, a high quality quantum board type LED light will grow very good bud and you only need basic nutrients. A tent - ideally 2m tall 50 or 60cms footprint can grow one plant to maturity - without getting into low stress training and you can obviously cull plants in veg or part way through flower to concentrate on that one plant. You want quiet exhaust fan, high quality filter and a fan for air circulation. Use rubber dampers - grow in spring and summer or summer autumn and probably start with an Auto or three.
Be aware you get nose blind to the smell, be aware you will probably get ahead of yourself and want to grow more or talk to others etc etc
It is the last 4 weeks or so of the cycle that produces the smell - but you can end up with heat issues in summer and so it isnt all plain sailing
After a couple of grows you will know what you are doing and have a regular supply of herb for personal use .
Obviously different people have different attitude to risk and getting caught has a different affect and potential to screw you over for different people. Not worth getting struck off as a Doctor or Lawyer but if you work in construction or are self employed getting caught might not have such a career risk etc etc ,,,,
People who are complete novices are going to understand the risks less sop it is probably best to start off small, learn to grow a quality product with stealth and remember No Tell No Smell No Sell Quality filters, low noise gear, good lights, keep things simple and small scale
I would be interested on how easy it is for UK coppers to get a search warrant ... a lot of people seem to invite them in ...I havent heard about people who have had a Mexican standoff with the Filth in a room with a closed grow tent emitting no smell, no obvious signs of grow gear etc and being able to tell the Rozzer he cant look inside.....i suspect they would ignore you and look in but who knows !
