Germination

I always use a damp paper towel/napkin this time napkin to germinate. I do not personally use jiffy pellets or rapid rooters so for me it goes into a fairly damp paper towel folded up, put into a sandwich bag , sealed and put in a dark warm spot and germination is sometimes overnight. I personally do not care for the soak method. I also prefer my seedlings to have more of a "tap root" before they go into seed starter mix. Every method I suppose is good but this is the only one Ive ever used. Started these monday morning.View attachment 3984186

I scuff my seeds up then plant directly into ProMix that I've run thru a screen first to get the lumps out. To scuff I just lined a pill jar with 150 grit sandpaper and shake them gently for a full minute then pop them into small seed-starter pots with a loose cover over it so the top doesn't dry out. Then I stick that in a closet under a 23W CFL a few inches over it to keep it warm and make sure the sprouts have light the second they pop up. Plant about 1/2"/1cm deep with the tail pointed down tho that's not critical and mist the surface if it looks like it's drying out. Keep temps around 70 - 75F and I never use heat mats.

I used to soak until I got a tail then into soilless media but after going straight into media after scuffing have got consistent results and good germination rates even with older seeds. Do not handle seeds with your bare fingers as even the skin oils can prevent germination! The scuffing helps if the supplier has contaminated the seeds in that way. I'm my own supplier 95% of the time so know how my seeds have been handled. I put little rubber boots on my tweezers with shrink-fit tubing so the damn things don't go shooting off when you grab them. Works like a hot damn!

Seeds on the left with some rootbound clones on the right with a momma in the back.
