Hello,


I’ve been having trouble germinating my last few seeds. I started with two feminized Lemon Kush seeds and I germinated them using the shot glass method with distilled water. About 24 hours of being in the water the seeds sunk and couple hours later a reticle appeared on both seeds. I didn’t have the opportunity to move the seeds into soil until about a day later. Once I had the opportunity to move them I moved them into solo cups filled with fox farm ocean forest and planted about ¼ inch down and watered thoroughly with distilled water. I put them under four 23W 6500 K CFLs for about 5 days and nothing happened. So I went to my local hardware store and bought a grow light that ive had previous luck germinating with and started using that. After I bought the new light I regerminated another lemon kush seed and waited for the taproot to appear. After the taproot appeared I put it into another solo cup with 3/4 fox farm ocean forest and ¼ perlite and watered with distilled water. So all in all I have three feminized lemon kush seeds under a 75 w hardware store grow light with a light reflector around it. Temperatures are between 79 and 84 with the humidity being between 18 and 34%. Any help is much appreciated because I hate to be wasting these high quality feminized seeds on some dumb mistake im not aware im making.

Two have been in dirt for about a week and a half without a sprout. I believe thats a little long compared to my previous sprout times.
Im not questioning the method im questioning the way im executing it. Is the plaing fox farm with no perlite to hot for the seedlings? is the humidity not in the proper window? Science buffs are greatly appreciated here bongsmilie

humidity should be higher..never used ffof so can't give you any opinion on them ..i shoot for at least 50%

Might be overwatering, that was my problem when i first started growing. I killed a good bit of seeds that way.

ok with that being said, how often should i water? i drench the soil before planting the seed and then once the seed is in the soil i re water a little bit and then let sit under light until soil is bone dry. One of my taproots must of been 2 or three inches long on one seed so im shocked im 0 for 3 right now

There's your problem, you used the word "drenched". You are overwatering. Just moisten the soil, i'd say on a scale of 1-10(10 being drenched) maybe a 3 or 4. I don't grow in soil myself and never have but I use Rapid Rooters(dirtish like material) for my germination and I'd say i keep it at a moist level of 3 or 4.

ok so you think i should re germinate a seed and not drench the soil this time? Id hate to have four plants come up at once because Id be way in over my head. But i am on a time constraint so

I'm not sure what you mean by "regerminate" if you mean using the seeds that didn't produce idk if they are viable anymore. They might be dead. But if you mean some new seeds then yes, do NOT drench the soil, just keep it moist.

If it's been over 2 and a half weeks i really wouldn't expect them to grow, you can always dig remove some of the soil gently on top of the seed to check its status, i always keep an eye on the growth of my seeds germinating because I'm anxious for them to sprout lol i don't soak my seeds in water prior i just drop em in my moist rapid rooter, cover em with peices of rapid rooter and wait. My dwc system bubbling below onto my hydroton keeps my rooter moist throughout the process. I then use tweezers to lift the peices off to check when the seed cracks, once i see it has cracked i leave it alone because I know its going to sprout so no more worries. I grow 1 plant at a time so i have too much time on my hands to focus on every little thing lol

alright awesome great answer Anon very much appreciated. So when I water should i water until the first drop of water comes out of the bottom of the solo or should i just water a bit and then just wait it out? sorry for the petty questions but the devil is in the details obviously

No problem man, i just want to help, i feel your pain, i killed like 3 or 4 seeds when i first started and they were just scavaged bag seeds so i only had like 6 total so i was getting worried.

Like I said I have never grown in soil so I don't really understand how soil works in the sense of your question, a lot of guys on here germ in solo cups so hopefully they could chime in. In this situation less is more, like i said if you don't water enough at least the seed won't drown, so just do the smallest amount you think is possible to keep it a bit moist. It's like carpentry, at least if you cut the peice of wood a little too long you could always cut that extra bit off to correct it, but if you cut too short you're fucked. Water it a little bit and check it in an hour to get an idea of how fast the soil drys with that amount of water to help you get a sense of how much you should apply to keep it a bit moist until the next chance you get to moisten it more. Basically don't make it "wet" just make it "moist"

The distilled water soak is "drowning" the beans!
Many seeds breeders are now advising you to NOT presoak seeds. Distilled lacks dissolved O2 and that is killing them in the soak by in effect "drowning" them. This would be a factor in the paper towel method too! NO DISTILLED!

ROOTS NEED O2! Seeds need it to develop the root......

I don't presoak at all, never have (unless it's Beet seeds) and never will......I do the paper towel and have fantastic results...
