General Question about quality after harvest

So i am a little over 4 week in 12/12, and the flowers are coming along nicely. When i gently squeeze the forming buds, it smells like the most denkiest shit ever. I read in a post somewhere, that the smell changes drastically after picked and cured. My question is, if you are growing a shitty strain of weed, will it still smell amazing during flower stage? Or can you tell it is going to be bad quality? This is my first lady, and i'm curious how excited i should be of how good this smells! thanks

I find lots of crystal coverage to be a good indicator. But at the same time I grew a Blue Cheese that was pretty crystal covered yet was pretty weak.....but that wasn't with the norm.

Some strains like skunks tend to stink more but that doesn't always mean that its going to be great quality.....that said I find my fruity or skunky strains with intense smells tend to turn out to be the more potent bud.

the strain i got which is blue mystic has almost no smell during flowering u actually almost have to shove bud up ur nose to smell it the very small smell u do smell.....wow i said smell alot but like chef said u can get better estimation off the thrics and how sticky it is is actually a good indicator but just as long as you babied your babies you can count on them being pretty good as long as you didnt use brick weed seeds ha

The trichs started forming the other day around most of the flowers, so thats a good sign. Doesnt look like i will be getting a huge quantity, but you gotta start soemwhere. Very stoked get a taste of her

Just about any strain will be good quality if it is grown, trimmed and cured well. Even Mexican Shwag brick weed would be good shit if they took time to care for it.
