DIY Cool Tube !
OK… so I got another problem solved.
Was looking for some glass tube to make a cool tube.
I found lots of glass vases for 15$ at Old Time Pottery that I would have to cut the bottom off, then what if it broke while cutting?
Also, will the glass stand up to the heat?
Then, I saw it !
A large candle/hurricane lamp chimney.
One end is exactly 5", the other is 5 1/4" and the overall length is 12".
$8.99
Stopped by the hardware store and got another 6" tabbed flange.
Put the flange over the large end of the chimney, then bend the tabs in so they capture the end of the chimney and fasten in place with a couple 2" square pieces of foil duct tape.
When it is positioned where you want it, continue with the squares of tape till it is sealed all around. (too uneven of a surface to just lay a continuous strip all the way around)
I simply inserted it into the outgoing duct and held up the other end with a length of wire.

I put my phone the cloning area to capture the airflow.
I was hoping to see the louvers wide open, but keep in mind there are 2, AND I haven't sealed all other holes in the cabinet yet.

HAD to move the lights up one notch.
4 leaf sets are fully out on the 2 tall ones and the 5th leaf set is almost ready to top/FIM.

Question:
Should I top 1 and FIM the other or what ?20140912_040552_resized.jpg

I moved the light up 1.5" on Fri and went away for the weekend and came home and had to move the light up another notch.
I did up the nutrients to the 3rd week scheduled dosage.

As I was working up top, I noticed that the bottom is still a little bit flimsy, so I installed 4 heavy angle brackets under each corner of the tray, and put new receptacle cover plates on.

Lastly today, I drilled and notched the res lid for the pump out & drain hoses, and notched out for the pump cord and the air bubbler lines.
Got the pump installed and ready for a test run, maybe tomorrow.

I cut my cool air intake holes in the floor today.
I put the flange inside a single knee high hose/stocking and left it over the top for two filter surfaces to make sure no varmints can get in !

The piece of crap plastic hose clamps that they give you with the vent kits are… well, pieces of crap !
So I gotta go back to the LHS to get a couple 4" hose clamps before I can finish and finally set it in place.
I have it on a moving dolly right now so I can spin it around when needed to work on whatever.
Very convenient if you have one to work on whatever kind of cabinet you are building, till you get all the things on the back like you want them……

I even screwed a couple stops on the sides of the cabinet so I don't push it back against the wall too far and smoosh the pipes.

I bought a new windshield heat reflector today.
I had an old cheap one that was real thin & flimsy, but this one is about 1/4" thick and very insulative.
When I measured the width inside the fridge, it was exactly as wide as half of the reflector.
I cut it in half and I will put 3 small S-hooks on the back side that will hook onto the lip of the flood tray.
Then fold over the front and attach the same way.
This will keep the GrowStone from being heated by the light, (radiant heat), and it will in turn keep the nutrient solution that is in the stones, under the stones, laying in the tray etc, from being heated and returning that to the res, also reducing the opportunity for algae to take hold in all those well lit nooks & crannies….

And it couldn't have worked out any better, I will make slits from the outer edges to the plant and they fall right on the folds of the reflector.
