The concerns here are environmental by nature. Onward, I find it difficult to believe that given enough resources changes cannot be made. This is an industry with more resources than anywhere, why should they get any latitude legally? The Industry is capable it just costs more to do it without poisoning and when the deal-breaker is a cost analysis you got nothing. This is America(to some), the uninformed corpulent majority don't know what this is and if they did wouldn't care. Why the fuck does this industry still exist? because we let it!!!! Stop supporting gas cars!!! Point A to point B that is the function of an automobile. This debate should have been over before it began....we back-peddle out of these flawed practices instead. Capital will motivate the worst industries toward demand, so the only choice is to vote with money. Take bold and inspired action and incorporate foresight as you do. In the urban areas we have treated water pumped in. In rural areas they dont automatically have water pipes run tens or hundreds of miles to each individual home.

Those people who do not have water utilities have a well drilled and use the water.

this is the stupidest fucking descriptive picture of fracking ive ever seen. First off, its pretty fn rare to run horizontal on a drilling rig. So when oil companies frac wells theyre blowing out sideways on a vertical well and collecting gas and oil from zones above the fracture. The shits dynamite basicly and they blow holes. No bullshit chemicals needed. Just powder. It goes boom and then sluffs in pushing the goods up tho where we pull em out from. Every drilling rig employs a geologist that takes readings every hour of what is under the drillers feet. Theyre not going to come close to water deposits because they dont want anything that close to the surface. Theyre down over 500 feet at least. That little frac tube thay blow off aint a frickin nuke, its small enough to fit down a little hole and maybe 12 feet tall. Its a stick of dynamite on a string, not what you thought huh greenhorn eh???

I think what may be an issue is the crazy amount of lube that drill takes to make it so far down. I guarantee that is some heavy space funk that is not able to contained easily. I think the future is all about sonic pressure....loud sounds essentially. We need a massive laser instead of a drill. I am very pro laser. The figures are that 15-50% of this lubricant is able to be recovered.

And the energy to run your danm giant lasers, the atomosphic contaimantion or the containment problem. And how many megaton do you have to oblate to gas, to get out all that rock out of 2 miles of downhole.?. LOL I'd have a citizen committee formed before you could sneeze. It can't happen so I don't worry.

Go ahead, run the math. Once you have that 6" or 8" down bore, for good production down to the seam. Then what, a big mirror to turn the laser?

And the guy that said it is mostly vertical is simply incorrect. That is a waste. This procedure is to hit a seam of shale, maybe 6000 feet down. That seam runs for miles in either direction. It has to be bored horizontally. Biased drilling techniques are used to carefully turn the drill head a few degrees per 10 feet or so, until after a 90 degrees of turn you've also descended another 800-1200 feet. And wonderful, still in the seam.

If you have a thin formation you might only be able to pierce it, but I think,, the big production is horizontal.

That's how they drill on the North Slope for oil....but not horizontal necessarily, but out at angles, to lower the rig footprint. One rig, many holes. It's settled tech.
