WOW! This can be a very controversal topic. Flushing normally takes place about 2 weeks before harvest and is believed to wash out..all and any...built up chemicals/salts in the soil. Alot of people also flush after making a mistake with nutrient input. Some people flush every few weeks.
If you do everything correctly from start to finish, you wont need to flush anything.

Now you are more confused than before..right?

there are 2 needs for flushing - correcting mistakes and removing build ups. pretty much the same thing phisically.

you flush if you have too much nutes or anything else building up in your medium to get a clean start.
you flush at the end of flowering before harvesting to clean the plant from fertilizers to improve the taste.

you should only flush when the medium is dry. note that.

if you've done everything properly in soil you will need only 1 flush, 1 week before harvest. after that you water with clean PHed water.
in hydro you lower the EC over the last week and the last day or two you give clean PHed water.

some add molases to the last flush to add some taste. never tried that though.

no not really helps out alot tho thanks boneman and urs aslo night
really ?
i thought he was really clear , and informative .

flushing - is to remove any nutritients in the plant system . meaning , if u fed the plant with nutes , then flushing means the plant wont have any nutes left around on the stem , roots , leaves . just plain water .

u do flushing for couple of reasons
a) error with feeding of nutes , so u flush the plant and start all over again with the feeding (knowing ur mistake)
b) before harvest u flush the plant from nutes , so the taste would be purer and wont taste like chemicals . (many say it is not taste bad .. just sounds bad)

u flush by stop using any nutes for a week or two just plain water .
that way the plant would feed only by water and would use all the nutes that previously fed to him and is left around by the stem , roots , leaves .

if it was informative enough , please +rep to who ever helped u

I use molasses when I do my end of flowering 1.5 week flush. I have noticed the Indicas (like GDP) have a very pungent smell when I add it. And Sativas (Widow) smell dont change much.

I know that wasnt your question.. Just thought Id mention it anyway :)

I agree with the molasses. I use it in every watering 3 weeks before harvest. Tho i have not flushed and had great smoke. I think reading into it is what changes peoples minds. I probably wouldnt notice but since ive been told to do it, i do. Cant hurt to get the nutes out anyway. Probably cancerous, like everything else..

I just don't see a reason to waste my expensive nutrients when the plant will do just as fine, if not better, without them.
To me it makes sense.

I go to Better health and get organic unsulphered mollases. $5 goes a long way. $5 expensive Claptoman?
