Florida Growers Thread

Good morning to all. Here's the situation. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I will have a spare bedroom available. I live in an old block house, fifty plus years old. No central air and old jalousy windows, the kind that wind in and out. So I've been thinking about lighting and air control, more specifically humidity control. I have been thinking about upgrading to a 400w hid system but the costs always make me cringe. I'm a working slob trying to keep on top of my bills. Car, house, insurance, utilities etc. So money is always an issue. I'm currently using a four foot, four tube t5 light that puts out twenty thousand lumens. After much consideration I'm thinking about buying another four tube four footer to bring up my lumens to forty thousand and it would double the width of my growing space. It would also keep the amount of heat down, these fixtures have electronic ballasts. Since I have no central ac I'm also looking into buying a portable air conditioner which I would also have to purchase if I go hid, it starts getting expensive where the total output for another t5 fixture plus tubes would only be about a hundred fifty and that includes buying four 6400k and four 3000k tubes.

I also plan on topping and bending my plants tying them down to shower curtain rods which will be running horizontally in the grow room thereby exposing all thos buds along the stem to heavy doses of light considering they will be inches from the source.

Help before my head explodes, what would you do? Remember now, heat is a real issue for me.
Headsup.

I couldn't agree more with Gypsy. It's simply the way I do things, do them right or don't do them at all. I WISH my op had only run $1k, but between wiring the house, all the equipment, and then the 'sundries' of growing I've dropped almost 2K into my grow. Most of that was doing the electrical work and the lights. Some of it was 'mistake' money too, get something that I KNEW was going to work only to find out it didn't and have to redo it. (Before I ever planted seed one.)

I've got to still get an AC. This damned Florida humidity is kicking my a$$. Inside I'm running about 66% RH with tems around 72 degrees, and that's with my central AC set at 76 degrees. I'm ording a small AC room unit to put in the closet that's going to run about $300. That will hopefully assist with the humidity as well, right no I'm using Dampit's because I'm fkn broke (working stiff like you. I started this project back in Dec and have put every spare penny I have into it.)

Getting Started

Problems

I'll agree it's expensive, it's exhausting, and it's stressful. In the end the love you put into your bud will love you back. Given the prices in Florida it's MUCH more economical to grow your own, even when dropping 2 - 3K as I am into it. I shudder every time I see these cardboard boxes with 10 CFL's in them. I know some people are on tight budgets or they are young and experimental, but for a plant as 'important' to us as MJ I believe that the more love (energy, time, and money) you put into it the more love it's going to return.

It sounds like your on the right track, but as stressed about the money and perfection of your setup as I was back in March. Little bit at a time. Also check hydro shops, some 'refurb' equipment and resell it. I got a 1K HPS ballast for $95 and a 2' 8 tube T5 for $175 (with bulbs) this way. They both have year warranty's from the shops, so I have faith that they will be good.

Keep your chin up and thing of the great bud you'll get by spending some time, money and effort to do it right instead of cutting corners.

yes that does look like sum yummy furry shit ! Gypsy is exactly right. When you get perfection..... your buds will prove it itself.

How many plants you got connected using that ebb and flow? I use the same bucket drip system/ just isn't brand nammed. Let me know as im curious to possibly adding to my setup! Thanx again!

My buddy has a marijuana plant thats about 2 ft tall. You know how the get bean leaves then one leave then 3 and so on up to nine fingers on a single leave? Well this plant has nothing but one leavers like the next leave after the been leave. I never saw a mature two foot tall plant full of those single leaves has anyone ever seen this.

Thanks fellas...

and Natrone you are right... the Juicy Fruit has not been a great yielder for me... despite all I hear is that it's a commercial strain.. good for the weight...

But I do have mixed in with other strains and the res is not fine tuned to her likes... Well see what she does on the future with some real good care...

And FPP, I am not sure what you mean by the same bucket drip system...

I use ebb/flow trays... 48 lollipops under each 600w...

And Bro... my op is FAR from perfect...

I'm just a newb like a lot of you guys...

I just got an edge by using a proven method..

I invented nothing, I know nothing...

I copied EVERYTHING..

And so can ANYONE...:hump:

Cheers....:-P

Wonderful sun today. The girls are loving it.

Harvested my first plant, G13 Haze. Only got about two oz. Hopefully the second one will be more, I kept it in 24 for three weeks longer.:weed:

Any suggestions for a good indica with high yield? My knowledge of strains is limited.

Happy 4th and Aloha all........
