Heads Up

Good morning to all. Here's the situation. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I will have a spare bedroom available. I live in an old block house, fifty plus years old. No central air and old jalousy windows, the kind that wind in and out. So I've been thinking about lighting and air control, more specifically humidity control. I have been thinking about upgrading to a 400w hid system but the costs always make me cringe. I'm a working slob trying to keep on top of my bills. Car, house, insurance, utilities etc. So money is always an issue. I'm currently using a four foot, four tube t5 light that puts out twenty thousand lumens. After much consideration I'm thinking about buying another four tube four footer to bring up my lumens to forty thousand and it would double the width of my growing space. It would also keep the amount of heat down, these fixtures have electronic ballasts. Since I have no central ac I'm also looking into buying a portable air conditioner which I would also have to purchase if I go hid, it starts getting expensive where the total output for another t5 fixture plus tubes would only be about a hundred fifty and that includes buying four 6400k and four 3000k tubes.

I also plan on topping and bending my plants tying them down to shower curtain rods which will be running horizontally in the grow room thereby exposing all thos buds along the stem to heavy doses of light considering they will be inches from the source.

Help before my head explodes, what would you do? Remember now, heat is a real issue for me.

Honestly...

I would save my money until I had a grand set aside...

Then I would build a set up like I did here... Gypsy's 600 watt Home Made Grow Tent

and you would NEVER have to upgrade or be out of the best looking buds you have ever seen in your life...

It's expensive.. I know.. a grand's investment, but it's ALL INCLUSIVE... all the goodies... EVERYTHING... and you can still have an ice cream in the end...

But seriously... anyone that thinks he will be growing at least a few crops, owe it to themselves to do it right and get GREAT RESULTS THE VERY FIRST TIME...

The very first harvest will more than pay fro the equipment... (just in the amount of pot you will not be buying.. I'm not talking about selling... this is a personal set-up)...

And the G/W you can get with a 600w is hard to beat...

"budget ops" work... but they do put out some of the most expensive bud around...

Think about your grams per watt when you think about money... a cheap grow may be very expensive... especially if you do upgrade after upgrade...

Buy the last shit you will ever need and be done forever buying shit...

Just my thoughts bro...

I know it ain't easy to come up with a grand... just save it.. buy one piece at a time...

I am sooo stoned....

You probably think I am trying to sell you something...

I'm not bro... always go with what you know...

I'm just speaking from the experience I've had in the last 8 months...

I'ma go now...

Best of Luck !!! :-P

Gypsy, I know what you say is true, I know it inside of me without even having an hid setup. Every serious grow I've seen, through pics, I've never actually seen one in person, is using hid. Doesn't that really say it all? But a grand, you really now how to make a person cringe. Didn't you read the poor working slob part?

I know man...

I almost didn't open my mouth...

But it was exactly the "poor working slob" part that gave the incentive to write...

Being a working stiff is all the more reason, if not the main one, for having the most efficient set up...

Think of it in terms of value...

If you can produce 1 gram of smoke-able bud per watt (read dollars) burned...

You have a much "cheaper" or "budget" bud production that if you are producing 0.3 grams per watt...

Each gram of bud, forever, will be cheaper to produce...

And since we (hopefully) only buy our equipment once (if you planned).. and the harvests will keep coming for years and years...

You can see how quickly the op pays for the equipment and extra electric consumption...

If you really are on a budget..

If you really are a working stiff...

Shouldn't you be concentrating on producing the best quality at the lowest cost...?

Think about it...

Now...

I know we want to grow now.. and we do...

I vote for minor tweaks on your current op until you can you take the next step... and make it the last step ever...

Try the same grow a few more times... experiment with it..

Try to raise your yield using the same light...

Then, when the time comes, apply all of this newly gained knowledge to your new grow...

But that's just me...

I like dank and I like to be able to produce it at as low a cost to me as possible...

I will not blame you if you tell me you're not into it...

It's a lot of money...

But I get scared and pissed just thinking of how much I have spent on shy bags of shwagg...

So it really seems like the best idea again... regardless of the initial set-up cost...

Get a piggy bank...

or buy one piece at a time...

Just be sure that you have a complete package deal on a system (even if it's a DIY project) and a method BEFORE you spend a single cent...

Cheers Bro..!!!

I wish all the best whatever route you choose!!!:clap::razz:

Gypsy, I didn't look at your pics before I posted my question. You have made your point.
Any newb can do what I do... anyone...

They could be your pics in a few months...

I am a Gypsy, but I am not "super green thumb" or anything...

I grow by numbers... scientifically...

I could explain what I do 100 times better to a scientist than to a farmer...

There is no mystery...

Have you ever baked one of those "Betty Crocker Box Brownies"?

What I do is comparable to that in the amount of guess work...

And you know... it works...

6 months ago I decided to get out of the tent and do ebb/flow...

Today I can show you pictures like this...

There's something to said about what I put in my signature... and it is not only true of SoG.. it applies to ANY METHOD you choose...:-P
