Fist LED grow

By 'top dress' I hope you mean on the medium, not on the plant leafs. FYI high P is one of many myths perpetrated by nutrient companies

yes of course, top dressing the soil with a few ts of dry bat guano, here is what I normal use in flowering

DSC01149.jpg

dry bat guano is in the white box, the bottle is N and K Bat guano "tea" works great, only have good experience with it in my organic soil mix, normally make a top dressing in week 3 and week 5 of flowering, beside the 15% P it also contain some Ca/Mg and other micros

in between I use the guano tea and molasses, the small bottle is green sensation and is a Bud booster for late flowering

day 17, still +45 days to go, gave em there top dressing with dry Bat guano and clean water with a bit of molasses to day

Bud`s every where, look healthy and even some trichs on some of the top sugar leave`s, this is much sooner then with the HPS atleast a week, if not two, but Bud`s do seems smaller, might just be Bc. I have way more tops then Im use to with out a scrog ? no lack on hairs tho,

so fare Im happy with the swap, I bet I can grow better quality Buds with the LEDs, might suffer in yield ?, but power is also less then half, and heat is next to nothing, even on a nice spring day as we had to day with 23C outdoor I have no problem keeping 26C in my grow room, with the 600W it would have been close to 30C (with out a cool hood)

What you may perceive as a "smaller yield" will actually be more efficient--i.e. Grams per Watt. And that is not factoring in the quality (which appears to be better under LED, but I have no hard, empirical evidence to support that).
So there is a potential trade-off, but I wouldn't look at it as a negative, by any means.

Furthermore, from my research with vegetables, plants that are started under LEDs (then transferred outside under the Sun) will outperform plants that are started in the Sun. So that is something else to ponder.
There is some magic in these LEDs...

well it`s fare from over, so lets see, and Im not complaining, at all, plants look super nice, just what I meant is that the Bud structure look smaller then with the HPS, on the other side I see lots of trichomes already and plants look over all more healthy under the LEDs then under the HPS

also Im not used to the scrog method normally I just do some LST or maybe some FIM/topping and end up with 8-15 tops, so its quite possibly that the smaller Bud structure is just Bc. I have +30 tops growing up, so over all yield might end up the same, just more 1-2 grams buds Vs less 3-5 grams

nice little jungle of Bud top`s :D

dunno if its visible on the pictures ? but its pretty amazing how the LEDs tricker Trichomes at this early stages

on the other hand, this is a picture of a old HPS grow and plants is about the same time in to 12/12 actually I think this is a few days in front of the LED

DSC01585.jpg

look so nice under the LEDs just the color in my eyes is wort every penny, but plants also seems to enjoy em very much :D

and a picture with the blitz on

DSC01584.jpg

a bit bright with the blitz on, but really healthy looking, Im happy

and a few small Bud pictures

DSC01586.jpgDSC01587.jpg

cant wait to see what the LEDs will do to em in week 3-6 :D

also did a little shopping to day (burned off 40 bucks/200 Danish crowns :D)

DSC01583.jpg

couldn't resist as they had a sale at my local "Walmart" 30W (equal to 150W) 2700K warm white 1650Lumens CFL bulbs for 6$ each will only use two but had 3 left :D so have a spare one now ;) small LED bulb is for a normal living room lamp

main idea is to do a easy and cheap DIY "fix" to get a few more inch`s of light converges at each end`s of my LED fixture

so I easily can cover two big plant`s in a scorg, have plenty of work with a big and a "small" plant as it is, and I foresee "problems" in the near future as I have two nice plants in Veg now, and they will fist get in under the LEDs in 6 weeks time

beside that I would also like a bit of 2700K in there, got plenty of 6500K and Red`s but nothing to cover the full spectrum in the Red`s,

well cant hurt Im sure, and heat wont be a problem Im sure as Im actually a few degree F under what I is optimal, so might even get my optimal temps (got 82F at the top of my canopy now)

another thing they might give (I know at distance the CFLs wont provide much strong light, but still) is some light at the lower part of the plant`s, LEDs do penetrate the canopy nice and every thing, but don't spread out the light much, so lower bud sites that is at the sides/shade don't get any light at all, so little that you know it when you see em, pale light green with leaves that role together, the little light the CFLs might reflect down there from my maylor "tent" might keep em healthy and provide enough light for them to grow up in the strong light

lets see, I still need to make some measurements and make a DIY light reflector/bulb holder I can mount on the LED fixture at work, and its also more for my next run, but Im sure I cant resist to add em really soon :D

couldn't resist it, just had to add em now :D

DSC01590.jpgDSC01593.jpg

so 2x30W more used but also 3300 Lumens more in a 2700K spectrum, Im still debating with myself if I should go with my fist idea and make some reflectors for em and hang em horizontal at the ends, or if my quick ghetto/DIY fit with some dutch tape :D actually do the job, maybe even better in a vertical way ? lower grow is illuminated a lot more now as I was expecting, now they actually get some light, lets see if they changes ?

I know you cant compare this to a pure LED grow anymore or if my fixture would be able to compete with my 600W HPS but that was not the plan either, the plan was to swap out the 600W to safe power and heat and be more stealthy with some better quality light/spectrum that would lead to better quality Bud`s and with a more easy grow and with no real loose in yield, not to get all geeky about it, like I have seen some, who seems to have set there goal to grow with as little power used as possible, fair enough, but that is not my goal, my goal is to grow some top quality weed, enough for myself with out to much power used or heat/safety to fight with

Edit: upgrade cost was about 25$ for the 2 bulbs/plug/fittings and a timer
it just about make me use half the power as with the 600W HPS set up
and made my temperature jump ... 0,2C :D after a hour of running

a few Bud picture`s every thing is looking sweet :D

DSC01598.jpgDSC01599.jpgDSC01600.jpg

temperatures and RH is pretty much spot on

DSC01602.jpg

around 27C and 46% at the top of the canopy, lower down I read 25C and 40% at night I have around 23C and a RH on 38%

I doubt very much you needed to supplement with cfls, but oh well.

FYI the word is spelled first, not fist. Fist is what you make your hand into when you are going to threaten to hit someone

Fist you mother fister.

Nice grow, led are the future. Looks like your summer will be an easier one.

Fist you mother fister.

Nice grow, led are the future. Looks like your summer will be an easier one.

lol .. yea I show him fist :D

did`t want to mention it, hate to use time on stuff like that, make me fell like Im 12yo and back in school, English is not my mother tongue, not even second, and not important, Im sure Ppl. know what I meant (no hard feelings Im used to it, and Im sure it was meant in a nice way)

and yea summer time will not be a constant loosing batter against heat :D

I also agree with you, LEDs are the future, and Im impressed with what I see so fare, can easily compete with HID light`s just another form of light/growing method

I see many in here talk about how many grams per watt, and that is nice enough and every thing, I would also like to grow hugh healthy high yielding plant`s with a candlelight :D

but its not like its the pure goal for me, if I use 200W or 300W is not important, what is important for me is that it work and produce some results, grow some good quality weed, enough for myself, and of course with a minimum of power/cost/work

and I rather use 300W and get it, then experiment with them Etc. 2x56W fixtures I have seen in the start from some spanish or greek guy, look like they produce ok, if you do it right and your goal is gram per watt and not so much the total yield, but I rather use a bit more power and get the result for sure

and 300W is ok with me, as I did`t like the high consume of power the 600W HPS set up had or the heat or the safety issues, both when if come to fire risk or power company thinking +800W on top of what I use as a single in a 2 room apartment is to much and look in to it (300W could easily be a big fish tank or two) or the heat print, Im not paranoid, if they come they come I know the risk, the LEDs is just more safe and stealthy in my book, so why not, and with less heat and hopefully a much better spectrum then my 2100K HPS had Im happy, if they just yield the same as a HPS in form of watt per gram ratio Im kool

now day 21

not a good day :(

made my 3 week`s pruning to remove them lower popcorn Bud site`s and a few leave`s that don't get any/enough light to produce anything useable and found 8 banannas down there :( 2 of them open ø@!!!?+æå!% !!! Ooh well thats life I guess :)

removed em with a tweezer/wacom cleaner and made a good pruning, need to finish them plant`s, need some smoke, had a gab between the HPS and LEDs and is out of smoke, but damn annoying, blame myself and bad genetic`s, might soon be time to look in to some new stain`s

hopefully they did`t spread to much and wont come back (thanks God I don't use a big fan anymore) and with the pruning them small Bud site`s they might have "infected" is gone

now I don't mind a few seed`s, don't seem`s to hurt anything, but I hate when my top Nug`s is full of em, also hurt the yield a lot, so I cross every thing and pray to get 10-30 down low and not 100ish all over

a few pictures:

and after the pruning

DSC01611.jpg

and one that show (might be a little hard to see on the pics ?) I have 6,000 foot candles at the top of my Bud`s ;)

hmmm .. now I think about it, I did have hermi`s before with this strain but that was do to stress, and I don't believe I put much on them, no light leaks (check before every grow) and temps/RH is spot on and plants look healthy, but now that I do come to think about it, they where on some of the lowest smallest Bud site`s that had like 0% light only the very shady parts on 4 of em, I wonder if no light could tricker em to produce male flowers ? if so I would like to prune em early on next time, I wish I had now I look back but Ooh well

day 23 watering day :D

seems like the plants adapted to getting water every second and fourth day (4 and 7 gallon pot`s)

day 24

really begin to look nice and frosty, I see maybe 10-20 brown pistens falling off on a few smaller top`s at one side of the big plant, so I do have a few seed`s but Ooh well only 4-5 week`s left, good thing is that I have`t seen any male flowers since I remove them 8 so hopefully it will only have very little impact on my yield

a few pics

Buds seems to fill in good, and so frosty compared to the 600W HPS on 2100K, Im sure the spectrum the LEDs provide is the reason and it could look like my already top potent LSD strain will kick ass :D
