First Grow - Autoflowering

that is pretty brutal - what seed bank did those come from? I recently grew auto assassin and snow ryder by short stuff and had one out of five hermie, but have heard that this is a common pitfall with almost any auto. Wound up giving it to my dad to put in his backyard. I would have to agree with crazy train and grumpy - get surgical with 'em. I've had hermies I kept before and if, and its a pain in the ass, you trim all the bananas off you'll still get some decent smoke.

Man this is truly upsetting.
Will these affect the smoke at all?
I can try and remove them, but they are absolutely everywhere...
I mean, they cover the thing.

Are they all seeds? I mean looking at the pictures the balls differ,
some have hairs, others don't, some have growth, others have bananas open.
It's going to be hard to get the plant out of there and cut her.
Not to mention I have family coming over so I won't be able to do this until sunday night.

I'm hating this so much!

Great dp though Hoss.
OCB experts are the way to go!

I got my seeds from http://www.pickandmixseeds.co.uk/
They were the best site I could find for individual seeds...

They say that anything to do with germinating seeds is illegal,
and that they don't want anything to do with it.
But if you had a friend post the seeds to your country then it's fine right?

When you are cutting the balls off, spray the plant with water incase any pollen sacks pop open - the water will stop the pollen drifting away and pollinating the female flowers.
Gave her a frantic spray all over with some water...
I just gave her a quick seeing to with a knife and scissors,
but they just fall off when you touch them,
as if they know they aren't supposed to be there in the first place!
Got a few with white hairs too, it's hard to tell the difference.
Probably lost a few G as well as having her covered in seeds.
Not going well.

I suppose all you can do to make things better is laugh it all off right?

Hah.

Sorry to hear that Greenlights... I hear you can still smoke Hermies, the plant really looks nice and healthy otherwise. Just make lemonade out of theis Hermie. At least you have something, right? It could be worse my friend, life is good.

hey man I say you let the balls grow if its good smoke you get a bunch of seeds so you never have to buy again and theyll be feminized. but thats up to you

I have much more important things right now anyway,
I've spent a fair bit of cash recently on some luxuries so I'm happy.

Was hoping to have this little treat on the side now I'm short on cash...
Oh well, hopefully I'll get a few seeds and can prance merrily along sowing as I go.

I'm sure I'll still get a relatively nice harvest, It's just a slight inconvenience I could do without!
If anyone knows anything about Hermie's your knowledge is welcome.

I was thinking that whilst I was snipping them off.
I'm sure they'll be more that'll grow. I could even do with a few seeds.
If the bud is unharmed then why is a Hermie such a big problem, other than pollinating other plants.

The trouble with any seeds that you get is that they will have a VERY VERY good chance of producing hermie plants.
Plants that have a genetic tendancy to go hermie will pass that trait to the seeds.

To get feminised seeds that do not produce hermie plants you have to use a plant that does not tend to go hermie either naturally or through stress, then you treat the plant with a substance such as Colloidal Silver which makes the plant grow balls.
Colloidal Silver does not use the plants "Stress mechanism" to cause pollen sac production and if the plant is a stable non-hermie mother, it will produce stable non-hermie seeds.

So what would be a good suggestion if this was to be re-done Grumpy?
Try a normal photoperiod plant? Any banks that are known to be better?

I suppose I could just veg for a very short time.
I just thought an autoflowering plant would make things easier on a first time grow,
seems I was wrong though haha.

Sorry to hear your planted hermied, I have been following this grow as i'm currently germinating a Afghan Kush Ryder from Attitude... fingers crossed it doesn't happen :S

Also, my 2 cents, I read somewhere you shouldn't LST autos as it doesn't effect yield due to not being photo-period plants so they grow and flower times are short. So generally stressing the plant can cause hermie. I will probably have to LST due to space issues like yourself, i'll report back if mine hermies.

Goodluck, I'v heard very good things on the potency of AKR, so no matter what you should get decent smoke even with seeds.

Kudos to you for your first grow....even if it hermied. You've learned a bit in this month I'm sure as your first plant was/is a healthy little sucker! I've grown autos for several seasons and have become quite fond of'em...Lowryder strains have been my fav although I had some lowlife that did well also. Right now, I have a few Bubblelicious and Northern Light autos going. Some have been moved to a 400w hps but I've still got some under t5.... Some Lowryder 2, diesel ryder, and short stuff auto assasin are waiting in the wings. Over these seasons, I have found that Joint Doctors seeds seem to be the heartiest, with lowlife also good....but haven't had much l;uck out of short stuff varieties....get all mine from dope-seeds.com.... HAVE A GREAT GROW !

Cheers Jack,
Yeah keep me updated on your plant, I'd like to know if yours goes well.
I didn't originally want to LST but space is a big issue...
The plant did see quite a bit of stress now I come to think about it.

Good luck on your grow man.

Thanks Oldreefer,
My plant seems very happy other than throwing balls all over the place,
so in that respect things have gone well, especially as this was such a simple grow.
I'm glad I've got a tiny bit of experience under my belt now,
such as knowing the plants now.

I've heard great things about Short Stuff, wonderful plants.
But as you said, It seems there are a lot of problems genetically.
Sounds like you know what your doing haha.

If ever another Auto, I think Joint Doctor would be worth visiting!

Hey Greenlights. My shipment from Attitude is being delivered today. I can't wait. I have three femanized Lowryder #2 x AK47. My bag seed I am trying to gain experience with is coming along slowly, but I agree, what a learning experience the first grow it.

Huge learning curve,
Even though things have gone wrong I'm glad I did this,
I'll feel a lot more confident on a second run.

And they seem slow to start off with, but then theres no stopping them haha!
I'll be interested in how your new seeds get along,
I'm sure they are going to enjoy the set up you've got going.

Quick update.

Sorted smell out,
Bought a dirt cheap bathroom gel airfreshner.
Makes the room smell pretty awful,
but at least it covers up that earthy skunky smell... It was creeping through the house.

She seems to be enjoying herself right now,
budding all over, each day there is plenty of new growth.
Drinking lots and having to water each day!

As for the balls that showed earlier,
haven't seen any grow back yet.
Left a few on to see if seeds developed but they have turned to flower instead,
which I thought was a bit odd. Great, but odd.

Canopy is very thick now,
anyone think trimming the larger leaves would help give the buds more direct light?
They seem to get in the way, I try to fold them back underneath instead.

I'll be sure to update after the weekend with pictures,
hopefully there will be something interesting to look at.

World Of Seeds, Never again.

And Easy, I'd say 2 is a good number to go on,
you can give them more care and get to know them quicker.
Grapefruit will be an interesting grow, quite quick for a photoperiod.

most cola's are building up to be around an inch or two long,
and the top leaves are starting to frost up lightly.
In another week or so there should be a huge difference.
Just turned the bulb ever so slightly so all cola's get red spectrum now,
with little blue.

Starting to think that when I pulled balls of I just damaged her instead,
no sign of seeds developing, only flower.
very pleased with progress though.

Main cola is at 3 inches of flower now!
Photos coming soon.
