First Grow - Autoflowering

This is my first ever grow!

This is quite simply more of a personal experiment and hobby than anything else,
I've wanted to try and grow my own for years now, and the other day I decided
to just go out there, get the things I need and just start...
I hate dwelling on things that'll never come around!

Not to mention I am sick and tired of paying my hard earned money for
something that grows wild naturally and should be freely available to those who
want it, making people feel like a criminal, having to meet dealers for something
that could do the world some good. We need some change...

I'll stop rambling.

So, to get me started I have a 125W Dual Spectrum hooked up to a hanger
horizontally at the top of my room. The space is relatively small, but as this was
more a one plant test I'm not too bothered.

On top of this I have a 120mm PC fan that's incredibly quiet and smooth, and
seems to pull a great amount of hot air, which is great as temperature was
becoming quite an issue (more on that in a bit)

The plant itself is an Autoflowering Afghan Kush Ryder, I've heard great things
about this plant, but also bad so fingers crossed it won't Hermie on me, decide
to stay vegging forever or anything else that could potentially go wrong.

The seed germed within 12 hours and gave me an inch long tap root so I threw
it in some soil and saw a sprout the next day. (I used the paper towel method)

Unfortunately I didn't realize quite how fast this thing would grow (as i have no
prior experience, never even grown a potato) and it was placed quite near the
bulb as I was using a CFL. The damned thing grew straight up into the light and
burnt itself, giving me a few crispy fried leaves... Apart from the strange curling
and the odd missing leaf tip the plant seems to have perked up again and shown
some more growth.

The plant is in a mixture of grow bag soil and compost designed for small plants
and cuttings. I recently transplanted the plant out of the old pot as it was getting
far too small and roots were poking out the end. Hopefully this pot should be large
enough, it was the biggest I have and looks to be about 7-8 litres. Will this be big
enough for the plant when it fully matures?

I have lost both baby leaves now, which I'm hoping is normal... not that they would
get much light anyway. Any helpful comments would be appreciated as I'm going to
need as much help and experience as I can get.

So I give you my straight forward, simple as it gets CFL grow!

Currently at Day 15

I'll try and keep this thread updated as often as possible, I seem to have a lot of free
time on my hands at the moment so it shouldn't be a problem...

If anyone knows whether the burnt leaves will recover or not, that would be helpful...
feel free to leave a comment about anything though, and post pictures of your grow if
it's relevant (same pot size, strain, lights etc...)

:peace:

plant looks good ive grown it before and its a great smoke :P as its a small plant id assume that pot should be large enough i cant comment on that as i just grew 4 in a 50l tub lol how come you went with a mixed spectrum tho over 2 seprate bulbs im sure that would probably give better results?
ps. yes its normal for the first 2 leaves to fall off

I wish i had the space for a 50L tub!
I only bought One bulb as i was trying to keep things as simple as possible,
one socket used, both spectrums in one puchase, cheap and cheerful.
When i get around to changing spaces I'll have some better lighting,
I didn't realize how big the bulb would actually be, it's a beast.
Can't imagine what the 300W bulb is like!

How was the yield on this plant? I'm not looking for a large amount,
just enough to get me by...

And cheers, one less thing to worry about now! haha.

oh no i didnt mean 2 bulbs running at once i meant one bulb for veg then another for flower 6400k/2700k respectively
lol yea it was jus a big square fruit tree planter 50l fitted inside easy 40x40cm made of polyethylene or somthing so can be flattened when not in use
yeild was lowish only around 10g each however this was due to lighing issues...ie broken so had to order replacements and in the 10 days or so that took i think they lost out alot as its the 1st couple of weeks which seem to decide how successful autos are due to the short life cycle im sure yours should do better i think ive read somewhere yeild should be 15-30g ish per plant

Ah sorry, I thought you meant two,
As i only have one plant growing at the moment I can just turn the bulb,
rather than a mixed spectrum it has one half blue, the other red.
Money was mainly the issue here... as this was more a test.

That sounds genius, a flat packed tub lol.
10g would get enough out of this for me, would pay off the equipment and more,
which is all i'm really asking for here, anything else is just an added bonus!

And thanks K2, I'll be updating for sure,
and yeah man, an AF part of the forum would be ideal,
it would make things a lot easier...
It's good to know I have the right sized pot, there's enough space for another too.
I look forward to seeing your grow soon!

It's good to find someone with a similar set-up,
looks like you got some nice hairy nugs there.
If I pull off a grow like that I'll be very happy with myself!

I'd be interested to see how a PC grow would go,
might have to think about that one...
depends how well this goes I suppose!
Was it tricky fixing up the case for the grow?

Hi green, and welcome to riu.

Your plant looks great. Bushy with tight internodes. Don't worry about the burnt leaves-- she'll grow many more.

IMHO, I think autos are great for a first grow.

Good luck.

I've heard good things about LED, and now 65W of CFL on the top,
should give you some nice tight nugs if placed closely.
Sounds to me like your going to have quite a nice grow going!

Hey man im on day 17 of my autoflower we kinda have the same setup
Your plant looks real healthy,
you started off burning your plant just like i did too,
although your plant looks a little bushier than mine...
Can't wait to see how they both compare.

Had a little trouble this morning, tripped over the fan wire,
pulled it right out the wall and broke it, so i'm without my fan.
Heats rising slowly so I'm going to have to do something about this,
Just put a thermometer in to see how things are,
I'll update in a bit.

yea my mate used the leds once before and they work excellent for veg however there basicly a board with a lil power supply 3 1.5w leds 1blue 1 royal blue and 1 red and i have 5 of them it did produce bud however it was popcornish so im hoping with the additional red cfl this the nugs should be alot tighter and larger, not alot of lights i know but its only a dr40 tent 40x40x120 i think so fits nicely in a wardrobe secret agent style.

A quick little update:

I've finally fixed up the issues with the fan,
can't believe I went and broke it so soon in to the grow.
Something was bound to happen though...
It's now running smoother than ever and doesn't make any sound,
so my grow room is still 100% silent and currently odour-less!

The plant looks slightly sad and droopy, but she's been moved,
sat under a desk whilst I fitted the fan back in and re-wired it...
I tried to put her somewhere dark so she could rest for a while,
hopefully this will do her a bit of good.
Back under the bulb now though enjoying the sun.
I haven't mentioned this before but she's soaking up 24/0.
Is this alright? I've heard mixed opinions on this.

Also I've given her quite a big watering as the soil was drying up.

Hopefully the temps will cool down a bit now,
without the fan in place it skyrocketed to the 100 mark...
which seemed to put a bit of stress on her.
I'm checking the temps right now so we'll find out if all is good!

DAY 17

Next update will probably after this weekend,
hopefully we should see a little more height on her then... :peace:

Not that I am an expert, but that looks like a very healthy plant. Kudos on your first grow. I am day five on mine and I hope to see my gals spring up nicely like yours.

Looking awsome man, i'm also a new grower and im starting out with some auto's, been trawling around these forums for weeks and weeks then like you decided to just do it.
suppose the best way to learn is by getting stuck into it! anyway, i'll be taking notes, hope it goes well. :D in a bizzle.
