Figure This Led Haters

"True or not, LEDS are EXPENSIVE!!!"

True and False I would say. TRUE LED's are more expensive at the start when you buy just one, but with GrowlLED I know for a fact if ya buy in bulk the costs reduce substantially, however after about 6 months of getting a $100 electric bill, comparing to the cost of what you would pay for an HID light and hood and ballast AS WELL AS RUNNING IT FOR 6 MONTHS, you see that an LED is actually a sound investment and inexpensive in the LONG RUN, not to mention, after you put up the initial duckets, your LED light will function without degradation for 3 -5 years, as opposed to HPS that will diminish after several harvests requiring replacement sooner than later.
LED people need to get off of the my 90watt is equal to your 600watt, no 90watt is 90watt and 600watt is 600watt, I truly run 750watt of LED I don't claim to have what the site would claim as 3500watt, no, it's 750watt from the wall, but all in all, as an LED grower, I don't see a need for hate or rivalry between any kind of grower, we are all in the same boat, its all good as long as ya have dank green its all good to me, toke up. :peace:

Yea it is a new technology and probably yeilds less but if u weigh your freedom on the line, LEDs is the safest route, even if HIDs produce 3 times more in yeilds i think i will be much more safer and happy and higher smoking my gangja

if leds work better than hps then youve found the biggest keep secret ever bro.
out of all the grow stores ive been to ive never seen one carry an led light. hmm?
but if it works it works

I have looked into it heavily and seen several led grows, including the high watt ones, and led never gets quite to where it would be equivelent. As far as cheapness, it has been stated several time watt for watt, well 600w's is 600w's, weather its hps or led, 60w's of power costs the same. So no real money savings there. Then there's the heat, led's produce almost none, but neither does a well constructed hid room. If your running air cooled lights, with mylar covers and have the room wrapped in mylar, as well as a controlled temp on the room, you wont have a heat signature either. and I know you'll say you have to pay for all of that extra equipment, but its still is less than an led. then there's the quality. I have never seen any pics of led buds that were even close to comparable with an equivilent hid, and thats all around. Smaller buds, they usually get frosty, but it never looks like as dense of coverage, and the mass is never there. I have yet to see an led make a monster bud that you see hid's make all the time. Not even LED Girls 1700w led setup. And her's were the best I've seen. There is no real reason at the moment to own an led unless it is to support the cause and give them the funding needed to research and make them better. The one exception might be the small, poorly constructed cabinets that cant be built with proper ventilation and lining where just throwing an hps in would make temps unmanageable, but even in that situation, I have seen people do better with cfl's than led. Pretty much just saying the technology is a work in progress and can do nothing but get better with time. But on the space-age front, PLS lights seem to have a lot more promise in the near future.

Show me a grow from start to finish that used only LED's and had a yield worth a damn and maybe I'll be more swayed. I guess I'd be butthurt too if I spent as much on a light than an entire hps tent setup and got lame results.

I am very interested, let's see some pictures!

My local Hydro store has one set up with some basil or something in it. It has been sitting there for 4 months.... :blsmoke:

Uh, oh...Someone said law...Well, that depends where you live...So if you lived in another state then... Huh? Huh? I think led's would be more effective if they were installed on a contraption that allowed you to position groups of them where they were needed...I don't know the lumen drop on LED's VS HPS...that's to say I've never seen an unbiased experiment in person...

The truth is that i havent found many articles or photos from growing weed under leds, but its worth trying....so i will start an experiment with leds and i will tell you what's going on!

wow this is turning out to be a interesting read from both side i my self love led i dont agree with the power saving but they are a better light watt for watt the buds are tight and frosty if u have seen other wise the watts were low the leds were the old style or the grower was doing something wrong leds will put out better bud for a way longer time being cheaper in the long run if u use high quality bulbs im about 2 to 3 weeks from a 1070 watts pure led i wont post my show but cuz it dont exist but i will shower the fruit from my imaginary garden i grow scrog so my buds arnt how some might say huge but there big and tight i will harvest let them dry and drop you some pics to show ..u my tallest plant is just over 2.5 feet it has respectibal buds plus a ton of bud sights it should be a harvest of plenty only taking 10 plants its half my garden i harvest in 3 to 4 week intervals i dont grow ebb and flo in hydrotron no rock wool

I'm not in love with LEDs or HPS/MH, but I am sure all of the claims by the LED industry are overblown. It would take a lot of UFOs to get the coverage of a 400 w HPS or MH. At the current price you would end up paying quite a bit more that way IMO. The best LED panels are still very expensive. As for me, I intend to use whichever light gets me the best grow. It may be a combination of both. I own both and will give them a try to see which one I like for my first real grow since 1975.
That's my $.02 worth.

That's why I think they need to be positioned much closer to the plant...If you played it right, you could make little LED trench coates for your girls and use 'em for Christmas tree decorations...Sorry, I'm lit!
