i need to do both .... ultra stealth required. every decibel counts !
go for non flexible ducting too if possible this is better than acoustic ducting
i find most of the noise that you need to contain comes from the movement of the air
rather than the motor noise of the fan
bigger slower fans with a lower rpm moving the air slower would help the noise is deeper
and not as noticeable in the first place

i have a metal boxed fan that i put inside another box its quiet now inside 2 boxes lol
i found the outlet of the fan from the metal box was causing extra noise too it did already have some sponge type sound
insulation inside the box around the outlet but it was not enough as the air rushes out it was causing a deep gush noise
as the air hit the ducting and sides of the metal outlet i used a small piece of solid ducting and pushed it slightly inside
the fan i do not think plastic fans have such an issue

sometimes inline fans are not the best type of fan to use if you do not need the air to travel
very far through many meters of ducting inline fans are quite noisy to start with because
they have high rpm to create lots of pressure to push the air through several meters of ducting

any pics of the ducting you recommend ?
also whats the best fan youd use for a dp90 stealth grow? bearing in mind its so close to the next door as im in a shared house!
and thanks.bongsmilie

you can use plastic pipes/drain pipes the thicker the plastic the better
put the pipe inside the acoustic ducting which is just normal ducting with rockwool wrapped round it for added sound insulation
any non flexible pipe will do, its mainly to stop bending which happens with flexible ducting which causes resistance on the air flow and causes noise

if this is not practical., you could put 6 inch acoustic ducting inside 8 inch or 10 etc so you have your ducting inside more ducting
you can buy the metal/aluminium type non flexible ducting its not cheap
the type of pipe/ducting you would see coming out the back of a restaurant or fast food place removing the cooking smell

for fans i would most likely use a small wooden boxed fan then i would put that in another box if
necessary or wrap it up in plenty of rockwool until it was silent

you could use a good quality inline fan and wrap that up in rockwool
squash it down then put it in a box then wrap the box in rockwool lol
it will be silent you will only have the noise of the outlet to deal with
you will need to make some kind of silencer for the outlet or buy one

i do not think you can buy anything that will be as stealth as you want acoustic fans are only designed to be quiet not stealth whatever fan you buy you will need to modify it yourself
to make it stealth
you could do it yourself cheaper by boxing whatever fan you choose off and wrapping it in rockwool or another sound insulating material

i do not have any specific fan in mind for your situation look around at all types of fans not just inline how long will your ducting be ?
wall/window fans can be quiet and use a small amount of ducting and can be directly mounted into a box instead of a wall
rather than looking at hydro/grow type sites/stores go direct to a fan only site they have ruck fans and other brands the hydro shops sell and a wider choice of boxed fans i would not rule out an inline fan i just would not restrict myself to inline only as other types of fans could do the job

peace
