I have some friends whose cars got shot up simply for rolling through the wrong part of town... really only half joking about the armor. Had a friend get shot in the chest, bullet narrowly missed the heart, over some stupid argument... they stabbed him in the neck too and burnt a blunt into his jugular... it's amazing he survived. Another got shot a bunch of times by crackheads fleeing a robbery, for no reason at all, he was just pumping gas, spent 6 months in the hospital, almost died... another was shot and killed for not having any money and for being white (I'm not making assumptions, the fuck told that to the judge)... I could go on and on. Detroit is for real. Anyone who thinks it's not has their head in the clouds... a hard attitude doesn't stop bullets... no such thing as a tough guy, you are as pathetically easy to kill as vermin. One .22 round smaller than a grape rattling in your skull and it's over. Doesn't matter if you're a Green Beret with a thousand kills notched on your belt...

I can tell you that the same situational awareness and intellect that kept me alive on the streets of Detroit in the 80's kept me alive in war zones throughout the 90's.

I have never been to detroit but ive read the thread asnd i have to say sounds like concealed carry is par for the course there. What a shame my grandfather used to toot his horn about detroit and how its industry back in the day was the backbone of america. I have to say im shocked by what you guys have shown me! fucken a wow!

LA's murder solving rate is 80-90%. Detroit's is below 30%. That's the Michigan difference.

Way to generalize that all black people in Detroit will shoot white people just because they are white.Tell me the cross streets of where your friend got shot and i'll tell you how stupid he is. Part of being smart in the city is knowing where to be. You might get stared at driving through the hood, but you won't get shot at if you're not being an idiot.

As for the actual topic, I have friends and family that live in Detroit. Some live there because they can't afford to move and others live there because they're stupid. I love the city of Detroit but as long as I can afford it, I'll never live there again.

Shot at for being stupid, not belonging in the hood, you guys are pussies...... These are all comments that make it sound like you think it is COOL that Detroit has this reputation. I got news for you it is nothing to be proud of. If you believe it is ok for someone to be shot at for such stupid reasons then you are part of the problem.
I wouldnt say their stupid unless they are just smack dead in the hood and have the money to live elsewhere but its plenty of upscale neighborhoods on the west side of detroit that is about the same as living in southfield.
You say Detroit isn't that bad. And then you say that only applies to the areas that aren't that bad.
Safe areas are safe - how insightful.
