This is what it looks like when i whip it up. Thats a very small amount in the picture only like .9 or a gram.
this happens immediately?

it must be the product i'm working with. it's kinda old. i have no fresh stuff.

No not immediately, this happens after i spray it, scrape it all into the center and start whipping it under a low temp. Fastest its ever happened is probably 10 minutes.. average i'd say 25. but i've had it take an hour or more depending on the product.

that's what i meant. ;)

i've been fucking with mine for a week. :wall: i guess if it doesn't happen immediately it isn't gonna happen. i'm gonna keep researching this. i have dishes of different all over my desk now. :hump:

Weird, I can get it to budder up in the pictures i'd say 9/10 times unless the bud is reallly really low quality thats when it seems to be more of a problem.

I think it has to do with the chemical makeup of the material... My theory is that the waxier products are high in THC and have not yet degraded much to CBN. Light, air, and time will all begin to degrade THC to CBN. In my experience I have not seen anything wax up that was from old material. It has always seemed to be the fresher and lighter green colored material that gives the wax, while anything older or darker in apperance gives a thick sticky oil. Pretty damn sure it has nothing to do with your purging techniques and is entirely related to your starting material...

What butane do you use?
How old is your starting material?
What is your starting material? (buds, trim, shake?)

The green crack I have been running was harvested 10/19/2011. I run all ground buds. My first couple runs buddered up nicely. My last couple have been coming out a sticky shatter.

Watch your heat if it's turning to shatter instead of wax. I've seen the same batch make shatter and wax... The shatter was from vac purging 150-160 deg oil, and the wax was from vac purging at 130-140 deg...

I used the same methods on the batch that turned to wax and the batch that turned to shatter. Same temp water.. The only variable i can find is the weather outside. Now, I just got back from being away for 3 days. I left a dish of shatter sitting in my bedroom with the grow tent. While I was away the temps outside got much higer than usual reaching 65. Causing the temp of the room to get hot and humid. When I returned from my 3 day trip the shatter in the dish turned into ear wax!! I came home and it totally changed color and consistency doing nothing but sitting in a dish in a room with high humidity and warm temp (80). I think were onto something with the moisture. Either in the air or in the cured buds or combination of both. Faded, lets see some microscope samples!!

i put a dollop of shatter, a dollop of stirred then dried, and a dollop of whipped on a slide. then i put the slide on my hot plate, on low so it would melt. when i came back a few minutes later they had all melted into puddles. you could not tell the difference between them.

i took some pics, i just have to figure out how to transfer them.

in the end, it's all just pot. ;)

I agree... and all damn good pot at that. :) We just are trying to get to the bottom of this for pure convenience

it has to be the humidity because i've left a sticky batch in a humid spot and later returned to find wax also

Cool pics man, doesnt tell me much though =\ I made nice progress last night though!! I think were onto something here with the moisture/humidity. I was sitting there whipping and whipping, thinking what the hell why wont this OG Kush wax up. Then I thought... it needs some moisture, so I started taking deep breaths and breathing hot breath onto the pyrex and whipping and could notice the difference after each hot breath. After about 5 mins of hot breath on the pyrex it waxed right up, now i got some nice stable OG Kush BHO. I can pick it up and throw bombs onto my nail. So, faded I would try whipping up a batch while breathing hot moist air onto it. Just a thought :bigjoint:

That's what the boys up north call budda or budder, its whiped BHO. Wax for us has always been when you make bho and let it boil off the solvent sometimes a chunk starts to form and you pick out that nice chunk of wax for smoking. Guess names change, hell I remember when dank still meant post mature

Im going to give this a try next time. Also plan on trying adding a drop of water to the mix while turning it.
Im starting to think h2o is involved somehow.
