Awwwww, you implied I was smart. You're getting sweet on me.

You said poor communication was an indicator or poor intelligence. I point out blacks communicate poorly. You backtrack. Typical.
There's no question 'Ebonics' is not proper English. Everyone should be expected to use proper English when writing business mail/emails or interviewing for (a) job(s), etc.
People just won't take someone who can't speak properly, seriously. How is someone supposed to sound like a knowledgeable, trustworthy expert when they don't even have a grasp on the English language?

Like it or not, first impressions exist and if I was hiring for.... any? position if a guy came up to me and said "I be the best man for this job", I'd probably respond with "Well, shiver me timbers, matey. Now walk your ass back down the plank and get the fuck out of my office".

I can guarantee if I ever open a business, my employees will speak proper English because that's the image I want to convey. When someone can't be bothered to learn (a first) language properly it either says they don't care if they speak proper English, which is something I place importance on, or it means they never had the opportunity to learn proper English, which I find hard to believe. Also, if they never had the opportunity to learn English from school, I probably wouldn't hire them anyway. Education is important to me.

Black, white, red, yellow, purple, mauve, indigo, magenta, I don't care; there's no excuse for poor grammar due to laziness or apathy.

JMO.

i couldn't speak ebonics properly without a fair amount of study first, same as any other 'language'.

you just hate black people is all.

and language is something you learn, not having much if anything to do with innate intelligence.

every person who will ever need legal representation at any time in their lives would breathe a collective sigh of relief if they heard your story.
Linguistics categorizes language, much like a biologist does life. You can think of English as the order. Specie is the region, like the UK or United States. Ebonics would therefore be a sub specie phenotype. Whereas a Minesotean knows, "doncha know," is dialect and not part of standard English, unless you're Leroy.

Once again Leroy was asked to do a simple homework assignment. Still befuddled by the whole school thing, Leroy is a trooper. He was given another set of vocabulary words to use in sentences. Here's what he handed in:

1. HONOR ROLL - We was playin poker on the stoop the other day, man I was HONOROLL.

2. PLANET - I got me some seed to grow weed, so I PLANET in the backyard.

3. DISMAY - I went for a blood test, the doctor pulled out a big needle. He said, "DISMAY hurt a little."

4. OMELETTE - Every time I start a new job, OMELETTE go after a week.

5. STAIRWAY - When me and my homies get high, we STAIRWAY into space.

6. MOBILE - I went to buy crack, I was short on cash, my man said, "Gimme one MOBILE."

7. DEFENSE - I ran from the cops, and hopped DEFENSE and got away.

8. AFRO - I got so mad at my bitch, AFRO a lamp at her.

9. AFTERMATH - I like to be high in school, so AFTERMATH I go to the field and smoke some shit.

10. LOCKET - I slam the door so hard, I LOCKET.

11. DOMINEERING - My girly's birthday was yesterday, I got her a DOMINEERING.

12. KENYA - I needed change fo the subway, so I axe a stranger KENYA spare some change.

13. DERANGE - DERANGE is where da deer and antelope play.

14. DATA - At my basketball game, I scored thirty points. My coach said, "DATA boy!"

15. COPULATE - I called 911 and an hour later when they show up, I said, "COPULATE!"

16. FASCINATE - My homegirl's titties are so big. Her shirt has ten buttons, and she can only FASCINATE.

17. BEWARE - I asked the man at the unemployment office, "This BEWARE I get a job?"

18. DIMENSION - I be tall, dark, hansum and not DIMENSION hung like a horse.

19. COATROOM - The judge said, "One more outburst like that, and you'll be thrown out the COATROOM."

20. DECIDE - I like Wanda and Yolanda, but I like to have a couple of bitches on DECIDE.

21. DICTATE - I ask the girlfriend after she gives me some "How my DICTATE".

22. CHOIR PRACTICE - My back hoit, so I be goin' to da CHOIRPRACTICE.

the purpose of language is indeed communication.

on a meta level, how you communicate is also a form of communication.

if someone's work is riddled with spelling errors, or constant ellipsis abuse, or just reeks of general inability to even operate a computer to post on a v-bulletin forum (looking at you, coolman), then that also communicates a message above and beyond whatever that person is trying to say.

the message from the text is that the person is dumb. so dumb. so very, very dumb.
Actually, all that is what you said.

Any logical extrapolation of your comments is that poor use of the English language is a sign of poor intelligence.

So, without further adu, I give you one of their smartest people, a united states congreswoman, no less.

Innate intelligence?

The two words used together as a phrase and the context in which you used it, seemed contradicting to me.
So I looked up "innate intelligence" what I found was, it's a term coined and used in chiropractics.

Innate means inborn/inherent, where intelligence means the ability to acquire and apply knowledge.
Obviously, it's clearly a contradiction when used together and most certainly refutes your claim.
The use of language and having intelligence are both something you acquire and are not born with.

In other words, another UncleBuck pseudo intellect FAIL.

You don't think some people are naturally intelligent? Intelligence =/= knowledge.

Of course I do, but intelligent and intelligence are two different words with two different meanings.

Having intelligence is the ability to acquire knowledge, being intelligent is displaying it.

Just curious, does UncleBuck's statement above sound counterintuitve to you?
There us a specific time period in a child's life when their mind is most receptive to learning languages. I think it was 2-5 years old, or something along those lines. I'm not sure if I'd call the loss of that ability a change in intelligence or not.... hard to say.

I believe I'd call it an inability, therefore lacking in intelligence, I think.

Everybody's handle gets abused on RIU. One under recognized talent, IMO, is the ability to choose a handle that is difficult to pun on. Your handle is pretty good in that regard; I would have to think a while before a good, insulting twist came to me.

Only joke on my handle was freedom works calling me "obombur" because of his delusion that I support Obama. "Desert dud" isnt exactly a stroke of genius, but I guess you work with what you have..
