Green House Seed Co. did many Hydro v. Soil tests, with clones from same mother, average soil dry 56gr the hydro version averaged 200gr-350gr. They tested many strains.

I would have to see that in person. Right their alongside them
shisters with a clipboard and zeroed and calibrating scales to believe that one. Thats a huge difference and i dont buy that. Not one bit. Sounds like a Big Mike move to me. Was it during the time they were promoting the new GHS keep it simple nutrient ferts? Alot of modern day carpetbaggers in this "industry". Lol

hey carolinadreamin, I'm going to run the 3 DE's over a 12 x 5 table with 90 plants in soil. would you run 1 gallon pots or 2 gallon pots? and do you think if I only veged for 3 days or so that wouldnt really do much veg wise. should I wait for some new growth before I flower?

If you can fit the 2 gallons I would use those. I would only veg a few days, just enough for plant to set root.

^that link has the comparisons^ not just DVDs.... just fyi

There, they do it side by side, clones taken from same mother plant, rooted same way same time, then tested hydro/soil to see which has better results. In one I watched they stated THC was 1% less than the hydro also over 150gr less than hydro.. Check those results there are many to watch. fun to watch.

Also you will notice in their videos, they scale wet material from both, & dry material from both.

Thank you all, have a wonderful morning

I have done side-by-side myself. Using quality FF soils and in the same rooms. Veg and flower. My hydros out-produced the soil. However, as hydro growers know, it's a lot more work. Work I loved but it is work. Like RO water. I was a dialysis nurse when I did this and started hauling RO water for the grows for "quality". This was in Alaska in 2012. Sweet Jesus, after we had gotten over 8' of snow and it was still snowing (we ended up with 14' at my house and Alaska broke their snow record that year) I said screw that crap. I had grown guerrilla outdoors for years in the Southwest. Near cotton fields where I could swipe water & ammonia from the irrigation systems but out of the way.Muddy as hell from the Rio Grande. Runoff from God only knows what. But if it didn't get ripped off I grew some really good stuff.

In Alaska I switched to just tap water after slipping a few times carrying water jugs at midnight. The plants never missed a beat or if they did they did not show it. I simply adjusted my PPM down slightly and watched. Then upped it again when they started hauling ass again. Both yielded good quality bud but the hydro vegged better and flowered heavier.

I'm setting up a MMJ grow for a patient friend in NM and then returning to Alaska for good. He's as lazy as a full tick on a sleeping hound dog. He will be challenged after leave with even soil and automatics. Usually it's the singer and not the song.

I have also done hydro vs soil with tomatoes and green beans, germinated seeds all same time, put half in soil other half in a DWC system, every aspect was greater. example: hand fulls of 7+inch green beans compared to the soils having just a few 1inch or less. same with tomatoes got fruits quicker, more flower production. bigger leaves, stronger smells of leaves. Hydro has out preformed every soil plant ive seen so far.

Way better hydroponically. I also prefer the flavor of hydroponic lettuce over soil.. Grown right its better seeming to me

what nutes did you use ? I ask cos I'd love to grow raspberry, but wasn't sure about taste !

The big organic or soil tastes better myth needs to be put to rest once and for all. Hydroponic produce if done correctly is usually the same if not better tasting and more nutritious. Again its all about hydroponics done correctly. Plant roots dont care where minerals are sourced. As far as cannabis....most people with hydroponic systems growing cannabis dont have a clue what they are doing. They also dont dry and cure marijuana the right way for the best possible end product. What i see the majority of the time is a rush job on the final end. Dont even get me started on "flushing". Take the time (its a two part) to watch Harley Smith break plant nutrients down for you on youtube. Its a simple search. And its very informative. This will back up my claim that most growers that think they know whag they are doing when feeding plants really dont. The gospel as it has been preached in the books of old, the internet, and on the streets is flat wrong in alot of aspects. Cannabis is a hearty and tolerant plant though. Easy enough to grow. But there is a line that separates the really good growers from the rest. I want to be on that side of the line. And you probably do too. Do your research. Read the University studies on plant chemistry. Find out what the big greenhouse growers methods are. Find out how they "steer" vegetable crops in big hydroponic greenhouses. Cannabis is not some far out of field and foreign plant if it were alongside rockwool and coir tomato and vegetables in a big commercial greenhouse. I think if we followed thier example we would be better off than what some stoner posts with nice pictures on the web. Or what Rosenthal and Cervantes say in outdated books.

Was using General Hydroponics. But for reasons I no longer want to support them. Still using though... Switching to Advanced Nutrients soon though. Hopefully... But who knows since GH gives good results idk if I even want to switch to AN ive been considering for months cant decide..

Yes, definitely don't use outdated resources. Ed has been teaching for over 30 years. The course book they use is very reliable. I recommend it

*NOTE* I've also done sweet & Thai basil @ that same time that I tested basil, tomatoes, and green beans in that All outdoor, Soil v. hydro test I did to see for my self if what I've read in high times was true.* (irrelevant: I don't read high times anymore)..

Noted that just incase someone may wonder how herbs besides cannabis turn out in hydroponics.

*Note* My results don't mean hydroponics is better. It just proved to me the myth of "higher yields" & "faster growth rate"

Yes, way more. A good grow in soil with six plants a light and a three month veg would get you just over a pound and a half a light. Same six plants with a two month veg would do almost 2.5 lbs a light.
bullshit. i get 1.5-2 lbs per 600 lamp with soil and i dont have to veg my plants for 3 months. oh yeah, and that is 4 plants per 600 getting 1.5-2 lbs.

you guys want to know the real answer? IT'S THE GROWER'S SKILL LEVEL. end of story.

Slow down toyota. Im talkin averages and no work. Not scrogging and multiple tops. Its a reference. But before you go calling bullshit you should know that with the same four plants in a rdwc or even just a dwc would grow for you faster, bigger, and yeild more in way less time. This is a fact. And if you have growen both soil and dwc youd already know this. Call whatever you want on me, just ask around first and youll see im right. Hydro slays dirt all day long.

OP asked about yield. I stated that you can still yield with soil. For the record, feeding with bottles in soil might as well be hydro, the bottles are all full of synthetics, the soil is dead, and therefor is just a medium or dirt really. wish i wouldnt have wasted my first 5 years of growing like that. the only real soil is living organic soil. hydro sucks a fat one, and tastes like chems and leaves you with a crappy buzz and a harsh comedown after. I have plenty of friends that employ all methods of growing: dwc, coco, you name it. all sub par ganja. living organic soil smokes hydro all day in quality. so what if it takes a couple extra weeks, it's about having respect for the plant and not treating it like a paycheck. trying to grow medicine, not chem.
