Do you have to feed mothers?

I was wondering whether or not anyone feeds nutes to their mother plants, i'm thinking it's just a waste of nutes really since the genetics of the clones are gonna be the same regardless of how fast the mother grows. any thoughts on this?

i use nutes, but just some generic walmart kind. i dont use constantly, just after cuts are made to get her healed up nicely.

they are clones with the same genetics but they still need food to live just like we do. The plant will use up all the nutes in the soil and starve to death if you don't feed it. Since most people keep their mother plants under just enough light to keep it growing it won't need as much food to sustain it but it still needs fed.

What!? Yes of course you have to feed them. I take 6-10 off every mother every 3 weeks, and keep them for 9-12 months. They have the same feeding schedule. WATER, FEED, WATER, FEED. And YES without the proper stored nutes they will not take off so quick. Unless you have forever.;-)

The quicker they root the better, the faster they grow the better. This makes a perpetual harvest that more efficient.

i treat my mother better then the clones. after all its the mother lol u wouldnt starve ur mom would u? lmfao J/k. why not feed the mother? its no different then any other plant they all need nutes to survive. i didnt know the nutes u use change the genetics of the plant either.. sounds like some old school cracked up bullshit

I wasn't talking about starving the mother, just giving her the basics she needs to keep her alive. I don't actually not feed them, i was just wondering how important feeding them was and i don't give any N to the plant for at least a week before i take cuttings, this speeds up rooting. also yes, i have a LOT of time.

and who said nutes changed genes?

Nutes don't change genes. Starving them of N makes NO difference in rooting times. I've tested it many times. In fact i encourage you to try it. I have narowed it down to rootech gel and clonex for my stock. ready to replant in 7-10 days.

anyway, i think you're missing the point of the thread. It's not about how to clone but about using expensive nutes on mother plants or not

Nope. Sometimes when i have to many clones I put them in a plastic container or bag with lots of water and put them in the fridge. They stay good for weeks. Normally I use rooting cubes.
