Do you dream as much when you smoke?

Something I've noticed over the years is that I hardly dream when I'm stoned. Or maybe it is just that I dream then I forget, but either way, when I havent smoked for a few days I get the most lucid and vivid dreams, and there is a noticable contrast.

On another note, I often suffer from sleep paralysis (a common affliction where you can be concious but your body is asleep), but it never affects me when under the influence, the fact of the matter is weed helps me sleep. But where do the dreams go!?

yea i agree, I think its the fact that i remember dreams when i dont smoke and i completely forget when i go to bed stoned. because sometimes i can just remember a little picture of a dream and think "wow that was fucked"

But yes when i dont smoke i have very realistic and strange dreams that are often related to random things i looked at or thought of during the day.

I know what you mean about the day's event setting the dream, I guess it shows the one of the functions of dreams - to proccess and store info for your long term memory. Man, i wake up after a big smoke, and its like I've been in a 8-10hr coma.

The science of sleep is absolutley facinating - try looking up 'Hypnogogic imagery'. Its the crazy brief flashes of dreamlike imagery you experience when you are about to fall asleep as a few have mentioned. This can become more pronounced when you are stoned, producing very striking visual hallucinations, usually patterns, colours, noises and physical sensations. It is also responsible for that feeling of falling or spinning, then being shocked awake. For me its like I'm sprinting and then my legs are swept away from me or sumin.

can hardly remember my dreams if I be burning. but after about 5 days of being sober I dream hard, crazy, and vividly, and can remember most of it. I get up sweating like a mofo I been dreaming so hard. then once I start burning again, no more dreams

you actually always dream on average a person dreams 6-8 dreams per night, my personal theory is that because your brain is so active while high you tend to forget your dreams . if you suffer from sleep paralysis you shouldnt sleep on your back that is where it commonly happens i used to get it al the time i switch to sleeping on my tummy and no more problems!

for thoes of you saying you "dont" dream isn't true everyone dreams you just dont remember them:-P

going to bed without blazing before scares the shit out of me. I always get nightmares and shit, I usually fall of something really high and wake up.
I need to be high or else i probably wont get a good sleep, those dreams are horrible.

Yeah, I remember a lot of the dreams I have when I go to sleep high, like entire stories and shit. But my brain's not normal, so you know.

I Smoke everyday, and I hardly dream. I don't know if the two are connected though.

I just figure since I don't dream at night, I make up for it during the day :D

herb makes me completely miss out on the dream experience. the only time i ever have a dream i can remember is when i wake up after a full night's sleep and then hit snooze and doze off again. or a nap as long as i'm not exhausted.

i sleep DEEP. last summer i had all the windows open while they dug up and smashed the street to bits right outside my window so they could lay new sewer pipes. it was fucking LOUD because when i was awake i wanted to kill myself. they took that claw and SMASHED the ground over and over and over, literally 20 feet from my window. never woke me up. i think that has something to do with why i don't remember dreams. i do sleep much lighter when i'm on an herb break.

Not to freak anyone out, but I've read on a few diff threads now that there was a study showing REM sleep is actually reduced when your are stoned.....hmm. Gona check this out.

I mean here is a quote from a USA Uni website (Washington State Uni),

''Researchers compared the sleep patterns of experienced marijuana users and non-marijuana users. The studies found reduced eye movement activity, less REM sleep, and less SWS or slow wave sleep with the marijuana users. As well, the marijuana users reported a REM rebound effect, which is more REM activity and dreaming, on withdrawal from THC.''

I've read that before also. that's what I always believed in after reading it cause that's how it works with me. but I see a lot of people are the opposite

It's just because stoners get more "REM sleep" while we're awake than anyone else does.
