Do I need RO system my tap water ppm is around 9-10

Hi RIU I just got my tds meter and check the ppm of my tap water results is around 9-10 ppm. Do I still need a RO system? Thanks.

Thanks for reply I'm planning to grow in coco does RO filter system really make 0 ppm water? my tap water is from natural water from rain water reservoir my whole town use this water. so it's basically rain water not a tap water. is it ok to use with coco coir I'll use nutrients jack 321 I wanna make sure it's alright to use my tap water.

I guess it's alright to use my tap water for my grow. may it's my OCD lol. Can somebody answer my question? I measured ppm with cheap tds meter from aliexpress.

I have no doubt your water co. is adding something to the water. It could be a chlorine substitute. A headache for growers. Call around find out what they are doing.

I measured filtered water and my tap water again. filtered water was 12 ppm and my tap water is 9-12 ppm. I'm using tds3 I don't know there is mutiplier on my tdm meter or not.Basically my tap water is from reservoir of Rain and Creek water from the mountain. Lab test of water my town use was Grade A. How do I check there's multiplier on my tds meter? I got this tdm meter from aliexpress it says TDS 3. I didn't check the ph of water yet.

No that one should be a normal read out up to 999 and then it abbreviates it I believe, so that might be accurate. I'm just surprised and a little jealous. I run tap at 200 ppm which is in my opinion the top level of hardness before using a filter.......Run with that stuff!!! :)

I was gonna grab hydrologic 100gdp RO. I feel lucky that I don't need to RO water IMO Save some money. 200 ppm sounds really hard. btw thanks for helping. Happy Growing!

Yeah it is and I need to get a filter. The hydrologic looks nice but pricey. General hydro's hardwater micro is for over 200ppm. I use that as a general rule. I usually don't need cal/mag. but yeah its getting up there.

Your fine - ignore the "heard". USE your tap water!

If running soil (real soil) - skip the Ca/Mg
(if it's going to be Fox Farm Ocean Forrest - add a nice heavy 1/2 cup of Dolomite lime to the soil and mix it in well - per bag - then use the soil)

In anything else = USE a Ca/Mg supplement!

I'm all for tap as well. Been using it in hydro for many years on many strains with no issues. My municipality comes out at about 110ppm average and anywhere from 6.8-7.8 pH depending on the season so it appears that you are in a better h2o quality condition than myself. I have no reason to believe you wont do very well in coco with your water.

You're a lucky dude! My water outta the tap is 300-400 ppm so I gotta mix RO @ 60/40 and let it sit for 48 hours. That is good sounding water. Where do you live (generally)? Is it mountain snow runoff?

The beauty of RO water is that it is 100% pure. There is NOTHING in it buy H2O. I run a 5 stage RO/DI unit. It produces surgical grade water. The PH is always 6.5 and never, ever changes.

That's the good news - it's 100% pure, 100% reliable, there will never, ever be any variance at all in it.

Now for the bad news: It's 100% pure. That means that a lot of the normal minerals your plant would enjoy (like phosphorous among others) are removed completely.

That can cause issues if you're not used to it and plan accordingly for it.
