DIY with Quantum Boards

Just now registered to riu. This thread got my attention about a year ago and I’ve fallowed it almost daily since.

I currently own a 260 kit in a 4.5 sq ft cab running 180w at the wall and a couple of qb120’s in a short 3 sq ft cab that normally runs 50-60w. And I have 3 qb96 on the way.

I’ve grown indoors off and on for 10+ years and have used hps, mh, cmh, cfl, and t8 tubes. All in mostly stealth setups either in cabs or underground cellar.

I must say after running several perpetual grows in flower and keeping mothers and clones and vegging with the quantum’s I am addicted to these boards and never thought that lights like this would be possible especially for the price and quality. It’s the only way to go imo.

My observation over the past year has been these lights are powerful and save lots of energy on both consumption and cooling. I’ve had to run a warmer environment when I used to always struggle with keeping things cool enough. I’ve burnt plants with light by turning them up to high when I used to burn them with heat. They really shine when you get them turned down to the just right wattage and I’ve been able to let them get really close that way being in cabs. I’ve also saved a lot of head room with no more space then the take up marking them even better for my style.
The spread is awesome and everything grows evenly. Try doing that with an hid. They don’t seem to give me the sunburn that I would get from the cmh and my eyes don’t hurt as bad either.
The quality and the yield has been exceptional with these also.

I will say tho if you start using the quantum’s or are new to quantum’s you almost have to thro everything you know out the door about hid’s and think differently. But it’s more then worth it.

Being in a non friendly state that can carry up to life in prison I have stopped growing cannabis. But growing is my hobby and passion so i still grow tomatoes and peppers and other stuff and just really enjoy playing with and building new nurseries.

Also want to thank HLG and Steven and Robin for being kick ass with top notch customer service and providing guys like us with the very best for our hobbies. If you are on the fence or are unsure just stop and go for it.

HLG quantum’s and Greenleaf megacrop = win win win.

Edit to add. When I say stealth Cab I have a DVD player that is louder then my flower cab and my mother veg cab the only thing your hear is the timer. Silence is almost louder then these cabs running. Couldn’t do that with any other lights

Been a while since I posted a QB tent shot. This is a test strain I'm calling Chazy Ice. Now, this plant is a mistfit/mutant. Its an auto flower thats taken 60 days to start flowering. It has branches growing out in all kinds of crazy direstions, ands the foliage is super dense, I've taken 3-4 pounds of leaves from it in the last two weeks and have given up..........lol. I wanted this grow over, I have three others, 2 of which are about 10 days from done, another 3-4 weeks, and this bitch just starting to........... I've got other stuff already in the que for this tent............ I hate to just chop her, but I might.... we'll see.

Unless I need it to make oil, etc, I don't trim the sugar leaves off my buds either, its a waste of perfectly good material, time and effort. It smokes just fine. The bud I give to family i trim, just so I don't have to listen to the bullshit.
I don’t usually smoke it myself but I don’t like trimming either. And I totally get the whole friends and family bs. Crazy how they will bitch about free primo herb that’s not perfectly manicured. Most all my plants get turned into oil anyhow or used to until I stopped. Had to give it up for a while. It got spooky potent.

Anyone got reports on the QB96 yet? I got a 3 pack will be here tomorrow.

Also found a meanwell LPF-40-24 on amazon for $15 shipped.

I think I’m going to buy a 4 shelf 36x16x60 shelf that’s on sale at a local farm store for $27 to make a indoor nursery for herbs and starting seeds for my outdoor vegetables garden with the qb96’s

I only have 1 qb96 in 5000k. Worked great for getting seeds started and the first few weeks. Was just looking at the 3 pack today and had a similar idea. Only problem is I don't have enough space to really warrant a nursery/seedling rack. Good luck with your project!

QB96 3 pack came in today. Look nice. I went ahead and picked up a cheap modular shelf to make a seedling/herb/wheat grass nursery on 2 shelf’s. The shelves are 36”x16 and 16” high at the moment. So that is 4 sqft per shelf and no reflective wall. I may put poster board or something on the back for at least some reflection. Right now I’m wondering if 1 qb96 will be enough per shelf. My wife is going to paint it to look good being this will be in the house. Her and my little girl will participate in keeping this little nursery going. Maybe even some carrots in a clear tote so my little girl can watch them grow. Just some family friendly fun time with the quantum’s.

Early framing pics, it's still a wip.
Waiting on end pieces, another set of ratchet hangers and a few other odd n ends.

4x qb132 @ 2700k, currently on an HLG-240H-C1050.
I'll prolly end up running 4 or 5 boards on an HLG-120H-C700A.

What's type of material is being used for the frame?

Hi guys ive been looking at these quantum boards and i was thinking to have 8 QB 132's (4 @ 2700k, 4 @ 4000k) in my 8x4 tent

so i would need
2 x HLG-240H-C1750A
https://www.digikey.com/product-det...d=ref_findchips_standard&utm_source=findchips

2 power cords like this one
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079ZRXKY...colid=FN9KHXHGUS1V&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

and 2 waterproof connectors
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XPTV45...colid=FN9KHXHGUS1V&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Is there anything else i'm missing, aside from hangers ? also what is the difference between the driver that ends in 1750A and 1750B (only difference i can see in the specs is that B's are IP67 rating)

one more thing - what size wire do i wire the boards in series with? 22 gauge if i am not mistaken? (pls correct me if im wrong)

PS: if anyone has this current set up, if you could share your experience/pictures/par readings with these QBs - thx guys

Drivers A has built in potentiometer for dimming while B a potentiometer needs to be wired to the driver (not included).. A usually gives a little bit more power but having an external potentiometer is sometime better if you cant access your driver easily to adjust it..
