DIY with Quantum Boards

Pollen experiment - Quantum 3500k rig

WELP ..... The CS experiment had some issues with 2 of the 3 plants treated.
Peyote Cookies didn't take or the Candy Dream .... So I cut off those small branches .
They just looked sad and stalled.

However , the Blue Dream treated branch is doing her thing. It has expressed LADY NUTS ! ..... So I am watching her close . I probably won't get too much pollen from her but that is ok as I plan to SELF this plant ( Humboldt auto ) and get some beans . Whatever pollen left will be used , maybe on that Mephisto or that Gorilla Glue ( vegging currently ).

Oh well ....

I'm plugging you guys hard on autoflowernetwork! Guys, you got a big audience there but a lot of clueless people. EDUCATE them as to what QB lights can do for them!

But make more boards first............. lol

Nope they havent responded yet, ive emailed them in the past and not got a response so i kinda figured they have more emails than they can shake a stick at lol.

Maybe i should just go buy a 2' T5, cuz as soon as I do that they will have the HLG 40s back in stock lol.

So I'm about to buy some quantums.
It is supposed to be used for flower only.
The space is 3.3 x 6 ft. So 19.8 ft²

The problem here is that HLG is sold out.... seems like this has been a problem for a long time.
I could only get the 4000k quantum but dont feel very comfortable with this as a flower light. Also the heatsinks are sold out as well, so I'm gonna purchase those LED stripes from digikey.

SI-B8U521B20WW

I was thinking of buying 10 of those stripes and running them @450 W.
so that means 46v and 1A for each stripe.
In total they have 1440 LED.

I guess they are not S6 binning but S4.
How big is this difference in real world use? at 50% power it seems to be a difference of arround 11% in lumen output. Quite a number but:
The stripes would be more distributed on the space and have more single LED as an lightsource than the Quantum boards. So might this compensate for the worse binning?

In COB threads its alll about 1 COB for 1 sqft.
Is this still the better solution?
Is there any data showing that the narrow space of a Quantum board is superior to distributed COB or stripes with S4 binning?

Im also having a hard time finding some data for comparison between Quantum boards vs Stripes vs COB.
Did anyone ever tested this? @CobKits maybe?

I'm using it for the exact reason that its an all in one nutrient, no playing mad scientist mixing 47 bottles of crap, feeding schedules to try to follow, its a damned plant, keep it simple! And I believe this company is another started by guys here on RIU.

And As I start my plants always in organic soil, I started feeding about week three, and will feed right till the day I chop.

That Mega Crop looks legit. Super cheap in bulk. Are u using just by itself? Have you completed entire grow with it? Using Veg Bloom hard water, 1 tsp per gall for entire grow. Really works great. Use it all by itself.

Cob and QB are about the same except qb will provide you a wider coverage.. same thing with strips which are the same led as the QB boards but once again would provide an even wider spread of the light. If you want to compare the BIN You can use the samsung calculator put in the data and power you want to run them and have different scenarios and you will be able to easily compare s4 vs s6.. unless the s6 are out of stock or much higher price which I dont think id still try to get the s6 instead of the s4.. but any of the two will do good

Ive just looked at the HLG website and they seem to have stock for 260w and 320w diy kit in 3000k. Strips is not a bad choice either

Well with the quantum boards the S6 are at a much higher price. Which is fine since the people who run this business still got to eat something and provide some service for people who arent too familiar with diy led. They also dont fit very well in my space for perfect distribution.

Cant seem to find stripes with S6 binning on the internet. Do you maybe have a source for one @Viceman666 ?

I am really not an expert in strips maybe someone else can help you out. However id look at his website for all different strips and option - it include step by step as well as datasheet and part numbers. http://ledgardener.com/diy-led-strip-build-designs-samsung-bridgelux/
