DIY with Quantum Boards

So what's the big competition you're talking about? Sun boards?
Nope, seeing how people get all hissy about other players posting in there threads look at what ive posted in this thread you will find who it is...
They even have optics as well.
And they build them in house as well so no out sourcing...
They are a advertiser on here as well..
They are working on proto types now
boards 300x300 first run of 1000 boards cost is tbh.

Support the original Quantum Board project. No need to buy copy boards. Original QB will be back in stock soon. Pre sale starts 04/20

  • HLG was the first to design a high density mid power board for Horticulture and DIYers.
  • HLG was the first to use 561C S6 Bin
  • HLG was the first to use Ledil Linear optics

We have been selling this board design with optics since Nov 2016
Thanks for your amazing support.

hey robin have you done any PAR readings with and without the acrylic? it has excellent transmittance on axis but im wondering how it works with such a spread out light source?

looking at the datasheet for lm561:

View attachment 3925393

then the transmittance graph for acrylic:

View attachment 3925395

it looks like about 25% of the light is cast off at above 50 degrees where it would start to reflect off the acrylic. so this would bounce around between the acrylic and the white board

I'd guess the losses might be closer to 10% than the theoretical 8%
Thanks for sharing this. I will do a PAR map and get back to you.

We've been using those optics for a while. Our boards are designed around the Flourence 1R series from Ledil...... Page 2 of this thread..... Also this....... He knew what optics we are using as well...... Screenshot_20170415-202222.png Screenshot_20170415-203818.png

It is a free market for sure. But reputation, reliability and customer support add very real value to a product offering. It’s going to be hard to beat HLG.

Ok, looked up the thermastat wire, the voltage was only 150. Not good enough. I did use it to test making sure it was not touching anything, Wow, is it nice!

Here is what I got on my P3 Kill-a-Watt.

Turned all the way down : 206 watts
Turned all the way up: 540 watts
1216 dots before my eyes

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, I can't fault either HLG or Cutter! They're both great retailers to deal with and I'll happily spend my money with either of them. I bet chilLED is equally as good, as a consumer I want to try products from all of them eventually and competition is ultimately good for the person opening their wallet.

I hope this thread isn't turning into a sledging match, what other companies are doing isn't exactly the same as HLG. Yes they are all using the same samsung diode but that only makes sense seeing as it seems to be the best mid power SMD out at the moment for horticultural applications so that was bound to happen. After all they're all trying to achieve the same thing, delivering photons to plants in the most efficient way possible, there's bound to be plenty of overlap in design and materials used.

It doesn't seem a lot different to every company using the same COB LED's and drivers in light builds. In my eyes what cutter is doing isn't the same scenario as the fellow who got the exact same design out of the same factory HLG is using then posting it here in Robin and Stephen's thread, there was no way that wasn't going to step on toes.

I hope this thread can stay on the topic of Quantum Boards and not be as concerned with what other manufacturers are doing, because when somethings good it's bound to catch on everywhere.
HLG has been fantastic with communicating with me whilst going through the purchasing process and getting them shipped overseas, I very much look forward to using the boards I've purchased!

Gee, would you rather they charged twice as much so they'd always have stock?

I bet you complain about the lack of customer service at Wal-Mart,too.

So you could do better???? Where is everyone elses "stock"? It's an 8-10 week lead time on the LEDs. Did we expect these to be this popular this quickly? We have tried to increase qty with demand and the no stock problem will be a thing of the past soon. Remember we listed these in November and we didn't have a whole lot of interest and sales until around January.... Yeah well it's April and we haven't had that much time to adjust.....
Some people don't understand how things work but are very quick to judge. I mean really do you think we like telling people no I can't take your money because we are sold out? Of course not.

All the other vendors are jumping in trying to catch a quick buck. Sure Samsung has the best mid power but it does seem to be a pity that we had to spend all the time and money on developement and testing for others to just jump in and not pay there dues.... We went in a very specific direction and there are those that have made boards with the same LEDs that you haven't seen us complain about but when you use the same optics and all it is kinda a kick in the teeth to someone like me who spent 100s of hours simulating every know optic and coming up with a really well thought out design. At the end of the day I don't really care. We've had to endure all the naysayers and prove this tech.... Now the profiteers move in. I guess that's how it goes.

Don't think that we have been resting on our laurals.... I devote a lot of time to development and no I haven't stopped so you will see more great things coming from HLG soon. When you purchase from us you are fueling our testing and development (which isn't free by a long shot).

Now back on topic and let's enjoy the great pics and grow journals here in the LED section.....
