120F?...so at 50w the cooliance 10070 is only running Tc=49c* and the pins =32c??
Is that your final answer?
Hi @Greengenes707,

Thank you - you published some very extensive pin cushion heat sink testing months ago and you are absolutely correct - I appreciate you catching that.

The Tc @ 50 watts on the CPL10070 measures 52.6°C. The pin heat posted was a rough measurement using an infrared thermometer, so not the most accurate at all. My point was that the heat does go down further away from the heat sink base plate. I will take a more precise pin temperature reading on Monday and post it to this thread.

Regards,
Dan

Not sure what you all mean, the 200w kit is 4x 50w cobs isn't it? The 70mm high coolalliance offers 61-73w of power dissipation. Why wouldn't that be good enough for 50w of power?
From the notes on the data sheet from coollalliance:" • *Power Dissipation (watts) calculation assumes an LED case temperature of 85°C and an LED input power to output power conversion efficiency of 80%." our cobs get from 55 to 65 % efficiency. What does that work out to? I'm not sure how to interpolate that.

Yeah I saw the link but I assumed the interpretation was not correct, just based on the fact there are no 80% efficient leds. Or is it a different efficiency they are talking about other than heat/light. But I couldn't work out what they were meaning myself. I'm not trying to start an argument, there is too much of that going on already within the LED threads. Just a bit confused as the data suddenly isn't as clear as I had previously thought it was.

Bottom line is these kits are excellent and I'm not sure about everyone else but my rooms far from stagnant. That's how these were tested I believe. I bought dozens of cobs and cob parts but I overpaid in the end once I found these. I'm sure dan will reply with some helpful info especially since he spent time working with cooliance

I am not real anal either, in fact I just put together the most hilly billy style grow light, I just received my 4 COBs 300watts kit from Timber, within minutes the light was shining over beautiful flowering plants.

How!?? lol. I used a basket from an old freezer, placed all the components in it, Voila!

like so: https://www.google.ca/search?q=freezer+baskets&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=901&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiyhMvZ05rPAhUK0WMKHV-bD6MQ_AUIBigB#imgrc=80DKlK7yLtO49M:

haha. Honestly Dan that was probably the quickest unboxing and lights hanging ready to grow in the history of your business.

I should have used a stop watch so we could have compared times. For the first 2 weeks I used the top of a metal scrog contraption. The heatsinks probably like yours just rest in top and it was a matter of plugging in a few wires

Lol
... this is how I roll. I build temporary long term stuff lol. I placed the fixture somewhere I shouldn't bump my head on it. I did secure the driver with bungee cords, the rest is free to fly!

I ll try to get a picture up but really busy over here

Hi @GreenSanta,

Cheap, practical, easy - checks all the boxes. Nice. Nothing wrong with hilly billy ingenuity. :)

Have a good one
Dan
