you say you want help finding a keeper "JB" (must be jillybean? that is our go to daytime smoke around here) and keeping it going till you want to pop more beans? are you looking for tips on cloning/mothering or pheno selection? or something else entirely?

All of the above really. I have cloned successfully but I want to know with only 2 boxes 1 4x4x4 and one a tent that is either 4x4 or 3x3. I want to pop all 5 of my Jilly seeds and then pick my fave pheno and just grow one at a time from clones in a scrog. How would I go about that? The easiest? Make a moveable scrog? Still wondering? What about transplants? I'm only working with 5 gallon smart pots so I want to fill a 3' screen so I think I'm gonna have to keep them in smaller pots until I think I'm 2 weeks from filling up the screen Or should I run 2 plants in the screen or 4 or 50000000000 I have little ideas around it all but I want to know what everyone else thinks I'm running 2 600 watts I'm gonna have 2 HPS bulbs and 1 MH bulb and a ballast that runs it. SO help me reimagine my grow space!

well, make the 4x4x4 space your veg room and the tent your budroom. i would recommend a 3rd station for cloning/seed starting. this can be effectively created with either subs plastic shoe box method or my prefered method of standard nursery trays with a humidity dome under a t8 shoplight fixture. this 3 part setup should allow you to run a perpetual garden. as far as scrog or whatever other methods you choose strain preference will really be the deciding factor (ie stretchy plants are generally more ideal for scrog). i am not a scrog guy myself, but i do run jillybean and i betcha she would do great under a screen.

i run 6 plants under 2x600w hps lights, each plant is in a 10gal pot with supersoil and vegged for about 60 days. I top each plant early and train them into wide bushes. while the plants are stretching in early flower i put a trellis net over the canopy to help keep things even and supported. In this setup i am currently running 2 vortex, 2 jilly, and 2 plushberry. Each strain is a pheno i have selected from a 10 pack. I have a separate space for growing seed plants to select the phenos that will be cloned and run in the larger room.

Yea I'm not really sure how I want to do it! I know that I'm going to need to get at least 1 10gal Smartpot. I'll sit down and think it out after I get done with my homework!

dont eat too much, thatll get you fucked up, how long do you intend to veg the plant before flowering? that will be the deciding factor in how many plants, and I would think you wouldnt need more than 5gallons, isnt it like a month of life per gallon? I would like to know what people think the ratio of amount of life per amount of soil is

a month per gallon is pushing it imho. i shoot for 1 gallon of soil for each week of veg

edit: when i say 1 gal per week of veg i mean 1 actual gallon not the size of the pot, i.e. i use 10gal pots that hold an actual 7 liquid gallons of soil for an 8 week veg period and i use 5 gal nursery pots that hold about 4 actual gallons of soil for plants that veg about 4 weeks and i may be stepping that up to 7gal pots (6.2 liquid gallons) soon

If I don't yet have faith in my preflower knowlege and don't want to switch to 12/12 for like 1 week then switch back what is the 2nd best way to get a judgement on sex?

So, you need to be able to look at the preflower to tell. You can ether do this my switching to 12/12 for a short time and seeing asap, or you can wait for them to fully mature and show there preflowers on their own. the later usually doesnt happen till at least like 4-6 weeks from seed. But its really not too hard to tell homey, as long as you know what to look for, and you use a magnifying glass. Get a kickass glass, and you can see right down at the preflowers shape. Its a matter of spear from the get go, or a round nub on a little shaft. As long as you can see them (good mag glass), you will be able to tell the difference before its too late for sure.

Do you switch to 12/12 and then back to find out? Doesn't this stress them some?
Just get a 30x jewelers loupe (cheap at the hydro store). If it's teardrop shaped and doesn't have a stem, female. If its ball/club shaped, likely male. Very early male flowers can look like a lobster claw with the little curved bit of foliage that curls around the "ball". Basically, unless you see the telltale teardrop shaped preflower with no stem (regardless of whether pistils are protruding yet) you've likely got a male.

Last round I was able to correctly sex all my cheese quakes before Day 30 from sprout.

i start with 1 gallons and it works good for me. I can keep my plants in 1 gallon for up to 3 weeks because I veg for 2 weeks, sex under 12/12, once sex is indentified, transplant into the final pot and then it goes back into veg. I could see the possibility of someone thinking this would stress the plant, but ive been doing it like this for a while now with no issues. I dont breed or pollinate anything so i dont want to put a male in SS then in sense waste all that soil.

is there a better way for me to identify the sex, with out putting the plant in the final pot before sex is identified?

any help is appreciated!!

Yes. Plant in a 2 gallon pot instead of one gallon. Sex will show naturally after about 4 weeks, which is about the time your sexing technique takes anyway. Then transplant into your final pot. Simple as that.

How long should I leave in the final pot with the SS before I switch to 12/12 is it 1 or 2 weeks?
