ng males out every year. You want to be certain, but not wait too long.
These immature pollen flowers are both friend and enemy, in that their identification is crucial to producing a quality, seed free crop.
These could have been removed a day or two earlier, but I yanked up three today, and I have a little wiggle room to get down to my legal 12.
I let it go no further than this point, at this stage, you can also identify a Hermie, which I might put in a faraway place for seed, although usually if they got the balls, ya gotta chop 'em off.
I started with about 60 seeds, ended up with 24 healthy plants I liked, gave away a couple and pulled 6-7 males so far. Which leads to my next thread - howany plants should one be allowed and until when.
My thoughts are, to get 12, you should be allowed no more than 30, and by the end of August at the latest should be down to your legal 12. In this case and usually, males are identifies and culled by mid August at the latest, but, ya never know.
