Ok, so as a general, most growers flower under 12/12.
As most of us know the critical dark period needed for the consequent hormone build up to make different strains flower can change from plant to plant.

So here's my question and or idea.

Breeders give you an estimate of flowering time eg 9 week strain 11 week strain etc.

But they don't give you a critical dark period gauge to go by, instead they leave growers especially noobs thinking it's 12/12 .

I'd like to see this changed so when you are looking at seeds to buy it lists it as so.

Eg. Strain. Dildo dank
Flower time, 8 weeks
Critical darkness to flower, 13 on 11 off.
Thc 18% ,etc, you get the picture

This would save everyone who wants to Max out thier yield by dialing in flower photoperiod at least a couple days and some guess work when working with new strains and is just information that should be provided anyway in this day and age of particulars and mmj, who's with me on this

Some Indica's can begin to flower at 14/10.....stability as in environmental problems (Herm's and slow flowering with odd leaf sets being thrown like indicating the instability!) do tend to rise with higher lights on times.

Even 12/12 is not really that "natural" a lights on time. It is considered as being acceptably stable across the board.
I find it to be not quite as "stable" as I would like it for all Indica's and many cross's.....

I run 11/13 and have much more "stable' results that give me what I'm looking for better.

Breeder's run on space and time restraints - just like us. The accepted 12/12 is industry standard.....Except for DJ Short.....he argues my point loud and long and runs 11/13 on everything!

Dialing in photoperiod is far less effective then manipulating light spectrum's for hormonal response! (I know your goal is higher yields faster - right?)
The use of 730nm band lighting LEDs will cut the transition from PAR to pfr conditions allowing as much as 2 extra hrs of lights on time..
I've played with this and found it as "interesting" but went right back to not using them and 11/13......Now what does that tell you?

If it worked out as well as those selling the products said and the yields and time reductions were making a real difference - don't you think this would be the rage and everyone would be doing it?

Same thing for lighting times......11/13 or 12/12 - take your pick.....fooling around with other times are "been there done that" and not worth it result wise!

I run 11.5 /12.5 when I see any of the above mentioned inconsistentcies in flower, I'd like to see breeders dial in photoperiods for there own product (seeds) how is it I know my photo periods for my crosses yet they don't, I thought they were meant to be professional in thier approach and comitted to giving it thier all for the mmj cause not cutting corners and running 12/12 on everything just to save time and maximize profits.

And yes Dr who 11/13 also has your plant finished around 3 days earlier on a 9 week strain

Like I said they don't have that kind of time to play with potentially 6+ figure investment payouts......
No strain I have ever run comes close to listed flower times - hell son, I don't even count.....It's done when it's done.

Yep that's the way the plants tell you more than any breeders ever will

Yeah! .. I'm on 11 on 13 off (7am - 6pm)

not because of any weed celebrity

or because someone years ago thought it a good idea

or my strains 'like' it but

because its a life style thing

it suits me.

its the only time the plants rule me

other than when I give them nutes and water ..lol

Im on 10 on and 14 off on a strain that ive done over and over again... just because it appeared to me that the girls couldnt take 12/12. They would get "tired" and start to droop long before lights out. I dunno what that was about, but shutting the lights off early seemed to help. Im looking at a yield that appears to be as good or better than anybof the others on this strain and ive saved huge on the electrical bill...

Sometimes less is more I guess.

Going to try the same thing on my next run with a different strain...
