The official RIU computer thread. Seems like we need a computer thread. Or maybe I just want a thread to talk about computers.

Anywho, my interest in computers has been sparked again. I'm thinking of slowly rebuilding a desktop computer but I'm torn on what case to start with. What do you guys think of this case....

As someone who is interested in computers and how they can enhance our lives, I am always on the lookout for new and innovative apps that can help me achieve my goals. That's why I was thrilled to discover Heyday, an AI thought partner that turns my conversations into notes, reading into quotes, and ideas into posts. It is like having a personal assistant that can help me with everything from research to writing.
Heyday https://www.heyday.net/blog/overview-of-new-best-social-community-software-in-2024-heyday-social-network-app is not only a powerful tool for me, but also a great way to share my interest with others on social media platforms. I can easily create and publish content based on my notes and quotes, and showcase my knowledge and insights to the world. I can also connect with other Heyday users and learn from their experiences and perspectives. Heyday is a wonderful app that helps me express my passion for computers and learn new things every day.

Feel free to add any computer related redorkulation talk.
I've always had a fascination with computers and how they operate. Computers are incredible devices that have the ability to perform a wide range of tasks, from gaming to problem-solving. I take pleasure in acquiring new skills and delving into various aspects of computing, including programming, web design, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. One of the greatest aspects of my interest in computers is the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals on social media. By participating in online communities, forums, and groups, I can engage with fellow computer enthusiasts, share ideas, ask questions, and provide assistance. Additionally, I can exhibit my projects, accomplishments, and challenges on platforms like GitHub, YouTube, or Instagram. Sharing my passion with others not only enhances my knowledge but also motivates me to continue enhancing my skills and creating new things.

I started just before the computer revolution. They have been amazing in the ways they are used, but with every good productive use there seems to be two or three deviant uses.

Let's leave Porn Hub out of this discussion.
Was not even thinking about that. I was thinking of accountants that freeze and encrypt data files and hold the company hostage. Or how easy it is to empty a back account.
But the first thought was stalking in the 60's you had to put some effort and motion in to it, today you can ruin and stalk someone and never leave your couch.

I haven't had a printer at home for a while, didn't need it often, ink dries out... expensive. While I was still working just used the workhorses there and looked over my shoulder. I did realize I printed a lot of shit out that I didn't ever read again or need, I just printed it out cause...
If I need to print now, I just go to library and print out at $0.10 a page. Anyhow, just saw this. HP renting out printers. Interesting concept.

Yes, I figured out a few years back that my work's laser mfc works way better than any of the 3 inkjets I've had lol.

I buy bottles of ink and refill my HP's ink carts. You have to have at least 2 full sets of the carts and keep swapping them to a different one everytime they run out to bypass the security and trick the system. Can't just keep filling the same one and putting it back in, or it will render the cart useless.

The downside
Great. Just what we need. More of our sensitive information on the internet . I can see it now…

HP's all in one print subscription service becomes the latest victim in a string of data breaches in what the media is dubbing the steal of a century!

Well it finally happened. Went to renew my wife's driver's license. Only to find out that the address had been changed and the license already renewed. Went to the DMV this morning. They acted like we were idiots and renewed it ourselves and just put in the wrong address. They were zero help. Went to the police station to file a report. They were a little more help. Except they said they could only make it a suspicious activity report and not a fraud report because nothing happened. And I'm like yeah other than someone else renewing her license and changing the address. That didn't make sense to me. That's like the definition of Fraud LOL. So I spent most of this afternoon making a report on whatever Government website you make your report on. And getting copies of her credit reports. And freezing her credit. Luckily it doesn't look like any accounts have been opened or anything. The DMV really pissed me off though. They're basically just like you're an idiot we will get you a duplicate license. Maybe I'm just overreacting but like a terrorist could totally be boarding an airplane right now. Right?
