Coco pot size

Getting ready to try my first coco grow. 6 per light, few tops on each, but this whole coco pot size thing is scary af imo. Im use to doing big ass pots of soil. I have stacks of 5 & 7 's which dont help much here... ive ran aero cloners, little dwc, 30 gallon ffof trees and high # sog flood tables. So this is new to me but i feel ready. O ya, zero drip system experience. So here why.... ive litterally gotten a taste of everything. Hydro is wonderful when dialed in and going good. But when it goes bad, its bad... i was gonna stay in the flood tables but i wanna try this first. Also looked into vertical sog systems. Anyways, the point of this run is to run a drip. Feed 4-6x day for best results. But the idea of 1-2-3 gallon pots of coco perlite mix is scary. Issues, root bound low #$. All comes to mind. Anyone got any good stickys or threads or input?

Can't offer ant help I'm afraid, but I'll be watching this thread very closely, as I'm about to start a very similar grow (without all your experience).

From my experience, 3 gallons are big enough for coir. Although I do 5's every once in a while in a scrog.
Here's a grow in 9 liter pots of coir that got me 26 o's from a 600.DSCN0669.JPG

Well whatever your doing stick to it. Got good #.

I was going to try 2-3 gallon poly bags for now. Had them laying around. Im not trying to buy 3 gallon pots atm. Gonna wait n see. I might even do a few 2 gallons and few 5s. I wanna see if theres a difference.

Do you notice a drastic difference when watering multiple times day vs water every few days?

Really dependent on pot size. The smaller the pot the more frequent the watering cycles. I have not noticed a difference over multi-feeds in 1 gallon pots vs. daily feedings in 9 liter pots but my 9lt pots with a 21 day veg gets me 4 times as much as a 1 gallon flipped straight from rooted clones.

Thats good to know... n kinda what i figured. I got a bunch in veg now, there in 2 gal poly bags, only filled a little more than half way. I was going to either fill them up the whole way or go to 3 gallons. The twos actually only hold 1.5 gal and 3 gal hold 2.75 gal. But i was going to do 6 per light. I guess i could maybe do 9 per light but to be honest i wanted to do less, even 4 in 5 gal pots but told thats more coco than i would need. I dunno. Cocos so different...

You personally use 9 liter pots, 12 per light with great sucess?

Yes, if I use 5's then I use a screen as it's easy to lose control of the canopy, plus I add another 3 weeks of veg to them. Post #3 show the 9lt pots 2 weeks before harvest.

12 plants in a 4x4x7' under a 600 horti HPS,25 day veg,63 flower.
Off the top of your head..... Do you have a guess on the spread of cola density from center plant(highest PPFD under bulb) to the outside colas? Like half an oz diff?

Thanks man.

I have used 6.5 litre with 16 plants in 1m square, 2 week veg. No worries! (from clone)
went to 11litre with 6-8 plants 3 weeks veg.
last few years used 15litre with 4-6 plants 3-4 weeks veg. No problems with root bound issues.

I am going to up them to 18 litre smart pots next for extra roots hopefully and they are the same size as the 15litre plastic pots I originally have from some autopot systems.
You will be fine with 15s I imagine, If you Stick within the 1 litre for every week of the plant life rule.
Figured I would say litres because US and UK gallons are different.

@BM9AGS I know you were not asking me but the 16 single plants I did under one 600w hps I didn't (by eye)see much difference, It was 4 to 5 year ago but the best plant was an oz and a Q and the worst was in one corner and was 3/4 of an oz. I didn't weigh them all separate, just best and worse looking.

No noticeable differences in cola size or weight from the perimeter but this strain is a good producer. I expect no less than 2 ounces of quality nugs plus popcorn from each plant . A lot of my hazes and sativa leaning phenos I'll do in 18 liter pots with 20x20 screens on each pot with a week extra veg and get 6 ounces from them.

Here's my advice. DONT DRIP. SPRAY INSTEAD. It's as simple as adding a little 360¤ sprayer at the end of your drip line. Spread that water across the entire top of your medium. Don't let it drip on one single spot. That will get you NO WHERE.

Does it matter if its a perlite/coco mix?

I was gonna do 6 per light this time in either 2-3 gals. Next round will be some trees from this veg in 7 gallons. Think thats too small?

No not too small. 1ltr per week of life. I don't think you will be growing them anywhere near 26 weeks.

@jarvild that's a hell of a dry crop from 1 600w.. Very nice!
