Did em all already, side by side. The Flora Suns mixed with Agromax 3000k's grew the biggest buds with the most Trichomes.

Take my word for it, or go drop a couple hundred bucks on bulbs. My grows are pretty well documented.

Good luck!
Yeah Lucius, I've lurked about your grow and I love the work you did +rep

I'm really just trying to sort through all these bulb selections and i've got to say, the simplicity you present is extremely tempting...

We just use 2900k Bloom Bulbs and Flora Suns now. All good.

For Veg we just use 6500k's with an Actinic thrown in 1 to 8 bulbs.

So this is a ? for everyone trying to work the balance between price of bulb and performance (gauged by quality of bud, quantity of yield, potency of bud, and health of growth). I know Lucius has been doing a bangin' job with just Agromax 6500s and an actinic for veg and 3000s in 50/50 with ZooMed's Flora Sun for flower, but if I can afford to throw in a few specialty bulbs has anyone got any opinions on the pro/con? I mean, is it possible that the bud density may go down a little, and the growth may be a little slower, and the yield may be a little lower, but the potency, flavor, and aroma and overall plant health throughout the grow would be significantly higher or is this a sad dream?

TO preempt you Lucius, I looked at your grows and I did see how healthy, big and frosty with trichs your buds are. That's really an awesome job and It's definitely your prerogative to think us all foolish who still mess around with aquarium bulbs and PAR-PUR, studying SPDs and such; but what i'm going for is a happy medium--not using those crazy expensive fiji purples or anything but also taking advantage of some of the positives of the slightly more expensive bulbs--like UVL's internal reflectors.

I'm gonna be doing either a single 8 bulb 4' panel, or two 4x4s in a 4x4x6 tent with only 4 girls under it/them and here's the setups I was thinking :
1 - AgroMax 6500K
2 - Zoomed FloraSun
3 - AgroMax 6500K
4 - Actinic - would love to hear your opinions on wavepoint vs UVL vs whatever but right now hows UVL Super Actinic?
5 - AgroMax 6500K
6 - ZooMed FloraSun
7 - UVL Red Sun 630nm (?)
8 - AgroMax 6500K

And Flower:
1 - AgroMax 3000K
2 - ZooMed FloraSun
3 - UVL RedSun 630nm
4 - WavePoint CoralWave
5 - AgroMax 3000K
6 - ZooMed FloraSun
7 - UVL RedSun 630nm
8 - ZooMed Flora Sun / AgroMax 3000K
-----
the shopping list for bulbs for this setup is then
4 AM 65K/ 4 AM 30K - 44.00
3 ZooMed Flora Sun - 28.85
2 UVL Red Sun 630 - 63.80
1 UVL Super Actinic - incl. above
1 WP Coral Wave - 16.86
---------------
(153.51)
I know it's not a great price but it seems like it's a good balance of those high end uvl's with reflectors and the more generic grow and bloom bulbs

what say you all?
any recs on all of this would be so more than welcome its crazy...been reading about bulbs and looking at charts and weighing pros and cons of all the decisions and its got me going in circles now i think

be easy

.41gpw. That's with no Co2

Also just using a one part Maxibloom. As discussed previously had 3 ballasts running 3 dig light setups and kept them flat and 3" from canopy. If that type of yield is good for you then you will love T5's

I've been using T5's for a year now, My grow space is small so I just have a 2ft 2 bulb but I can grow up to four indicas. I'm quite pleased with the lamps have 6500K for veg and 3000K for flower. The best part is low elect. Many yrs ago I used MH and HPS but my elect bill shot through the roof, I'm surprised no one caugt on.

J20:

Not knowing any better, I bought an 8 bulb BUT would def go with 2 @ 4 bulb. This allows for dropping an IR in between in flower. Plus it's easier to get at the bulbs for swapping/replacing

VEG

Unless you are growing sats (and even then), no need for additional blue beyond what is already in FloraSuns and 6500s. In place of actinics consider Wave Point Coral Waves (1/8 )

FYI I would not use FS until flower, I just don't think you want that much 630- 650 in veg

Maybe replace the Flora Suns with UVL AquaSuns

Flower

Replace one Red Sun/Life with UVL 660

Now if you can drop ~ 50 watts of IR in between (a small light mover would be tits) for ~ 20 minutes after lights out and I think this could sig increase g/w

my 2 cents

^^^^^^^^I agree with Pet.......and LV!! that the florasun-6500k combo is hard to beat for the price.......good results in testing:)

Psugaro and Pet,
I've lurked about following you two a bunch and i gotta say i love both of you guys and what you do around here, thanks!
I'll definitely take your rec's to heart on this,

Pet, a couple questions though,

when you say "in place of actinics try a wavepoint coral wave" i read in a couple places that the 35% IR from these can be problematic in veg, causing premature flowering?

Also, your first statement seems to say florasun and 6500K for veg but then you give the fyi that you wouldnt use florasuns until flower? so should the setup basically be 50/50 aquasun/agromax 6500K?
I'll deffinitly be going with the 50w of IR for flower!

thanks everybody !

Thanks for the spectrum charts el doctor! very easy access to a bunch all in one spot thanks!

So, been mulling it over a bit and i think i am gonna try to throw in an actinic or two during veg and a couple redsuns and a wavepoint coral wave GA during flower. The question then becomes, is it worth it to buy the UVL specialty bulbs with internal reflectors?

here's what i'm thinking: if i shell out for 2 quantum badboys, they're individually reflected and I can probably get by with the slightly cheaper wavepoint bulbs that have no internal reflectors (can get the wavepoints and some uvl redsuns with free shipping), or contrariwise, i could get some of those growzebo 4x4s and save a little cash there, but buy some of the uvl (thinking of choosing 2 bulbs in some combination among UVL super actinic, aqua sun, or 454/75.25)

Ultimately, the total cost difference isn't huge so i'm probably deliberating over nothing here--in the long run of things

for those of you who are visual here's what my setups would look like with their respective costs

Quantum Setup with WavePoints:

VEG: Flower:
1- AgroMax 6500K 1- AgroMax 3000K
2- ZooMed Flora Sun 2- ZooMed Flora SUn
3- WavePoint ReefWave 3- UVL RedSun 633nm
4- WavePoint SuperBlue Wave 4- WavePoint Coral Wave GA
5- ZooMed Flora Sun 5- UVL RedSun 633nm
6- AgroMax 6500K 6- AgroMax 3000K
7- ZooMed FLora Sun 7- ZooMed FloraSun
8- AgroMax 6500K 8- AgroMax 3000K
Fixtures = 250.00, Bulbs= 119.00,
Total = 370.00

Growzebow Ballast
VEG: Flower:
1- AgroMax 6500K 1- AgroMax 3000K
2- ZooMed Flora Sun 2- ZooMed Flora SUn
3- UVL Super Actinic 3- UVL RedSun 633nm
4- UVL AquaSun/75.25/454 4- WavePoint Coral Wave GA
5- ZooMed Flora Sun 5- UVL RedSun 633nm
6- AgroMax 6500K 6- AgroMax 3000K
7- ZooMed FLora Sun 7- ZooMed FloraSun
8- AgroMax 6500K 8- AgroMax 3000K

Fixtures = 198.00, bulbs = 109/149.85---I include both numbers because the growzebo ballasts come with 4 6500 or 3000K bulbs so i wouldn't need to purchase agromax in particular

i know you get what you pay for, and i like the idea of the warranty on the badboys, but i thought i'd put it out there for yall to rip apart...

i promise, this will be my last extended bulb decision question!
be easy

Idk.....but I like to keep shit simple and I would just run half Florasuns/6500k our 3000k all the way through, set it and forget it IMO. If I need replacements their locally available and no shipping wait or charges, and oh yeah it just works.but if you like experimenting go for it:-)

Good luck grower

hi Ppl. can I join the club :)

new to indoor growing (a month in to my fist grow)

all startet when I was so lucky to get 3 fixtures for free, our electrician at work was changing the outside fixtures as they wher "broken" as he said (the plastic houseing)

and he was about to throw them out !!! was expecting T8 (as we use em indoor at the factorie I work at) so after removeing the broken plastic to strip them appart for what I needed it was a really nice surprise to discover it was T5 HO 49W (tho the 5 feet model but still pretty nice for 0$)

so all in all it only cost me like 50$ to buy 6 new tubes (4x 6500K and 2x 2700K 4750 lums each)

now as Im new to indoor growing and therfore useing light I do have a few questions some of you guys/galz my be able to answer ?
I have been looking around a lot and read a lot, but ther are also a lof of diffrent oppinions out ther and I must admit Im a bit confused ..

fist of all .. distance I mean from the T5 bulb to the plant top .. some say 1 inch some 4 and agin some say the lum output of the tube is at 1 foot away ?

the tubes are not hot at all and I can easily keep temp. around 72-78F so I could keep it 1 inch away ..
but it is like 28K lumen or so and the plants are only like 4-5 weeks old (10-12 inches high) could it be to much light for a young plant in veg ?

also .. since there are no real problem with heat using T5 I have been wondering .. do you Ppl. use a fan inside your grow room or just keep it good ventilated ?

and 3th .. since the houseing of the fixtures was broken and the reflextors was`t wort much I had to make one my self ..
used a hmmm... what is it call in english ? like wood but cheep .. thin .. brown .. use it to connect the 3 fixtures .. coverd it with maylor

but it is flat .. will this do or should I consider to buy something or make a better ? how much difference does it make ?

here are some pictures (not the best can take more tomorrow (it is dark time ;))

I added a UVL 660 yesterday. It is not as intense as I was expecting, but much redder than FloraSuns

Will post new pics by Friday

Honestly it seems ridiculous to me to go out and spend a bundle of cash on all these bulbs, just stivk with the full spectrum 6500 and 3000 k bulbs for veg and flower, they work fine! The whole point of fluoros is to be cheap and simple and efficient, its just i know you can grow hella nice bud with the fluoros as is, T5 HO, no need to waste all this time and ultimately money and bud for bulbs that will grow practically the exact same amount and quality of bud the standard T5 HO 3000kand 6500k would. My two cents, personally i would like to see more posts here of full flower with just regular 3000k bulbs so people understand they work just fine!

Hey all, I got the 6 bulb quAntum bad boy. For my last flower I used all 6 2700k bulbs. But I purchased a purple (450nm I believe) and a blue superattinic which peaks at 440 or 430. Should I keep these in for flower? (so 4 2700k and 1 purple and 1 blue) or just stay with 6 2700k?

I've also found that my plants grow better when they are kept around 80 to 82° when growing under T fives. Versus my HPS plans love 75 to 76°. Just an observation
