Ask away.
Okay so Im still reading up in your journal and I see that you use a vertical scrog style, very nice btw! Your have some monsters in there!

So...QBs definitely seem to favor even canopy grown plants but what about just plain old regular growing plants? How far down the colas do you all get light penetration/bud growth?

I'm planning to run either 1 QB550 in a 4x4 perpetual flower tent so my plants in there won't all be the same height. I'm also thinking about going with 2 320watt kits from HLG I place the 550 (any thoughts on that?) I know the 550 will be going on sale in a few days but for a few bucks more I could possibly getting a better footprint for the tent right?

I hope you all don't mind me posting a few pics of what lights I've been under for a while now. I've been growing out of a 2x2x5.5 for approx 5 yrs now :bigjoint:. My lights are Pro Grow 180...if anyone remembers those, lol (120 actual wattage). Last year I purchased a 200watt cxb3590 kit from Timber and made a frame to incorporate the pro grow panel with them. I'm planning to put it in another 4x4 veg tent along with an HLG 65...any thoughts?

Glad you like it!

I think you'll do well with either one. Higher wattage will let you expand slightly. The 550 will be premade and ready to play.

I think that these new lights- both multi COB lights and Quantum Boards- do a great job of lighting deep into the canopy because of superior light distribution.

You'll love them!

Thanks! That part about the 550 being ready to go out the box is what has me leaning towards it for my decision.

Awesome builds going on in this thread. I'm running an HLG-550 in a 3x3 tent myself, scrogged. I have the light dimmed all the way down and am just killing it right now. This light blows away COBs in my opinion. This is the new tech that really will change the way we grow. As others have pointed out - IF YOU ARE ON THE FENCE ABOUT QUANTUM BOARDS, DON'T THINK - BUY 'EM!!!

What strain bro? Those colas in picture #3 are insane? How long is the flower time on that strain? Looks awesome.

Thank you! That strain is called Gibberish. Made by a friend of mine from a blueberry father crossed to a Bubbelicious x GP
DP mother. Very nice smoke for a night cap, lol.

So...want to thank you all for your replies and advice to my comments and questions about getting started on my boards. After reading this thread and a few others, I was able to make a better (somewhat) informed decision for what I wanted to purchase. I ended up getting two HLG 320watt kits for my 4x4 flower tent and I added an HLG 135 to 200 watt cob kit in my 4x4 veg.

BIG THANKS to the folks at HLG. Since they didn't have the boards I wanted in stock, they referred me to Growerslights.com who had everything I wanted for the exact same price and free shipping. The only small problem I had was that these kits don't come with ANY instructions but there's a few good YouTube vids that got me through along with a few phone calls to Kurt at GL.com

First grow under the new lights are a combo of Ice River Genetics' Deathstomper (deathstar x grape stomper), Gus' Unique Selections' White Lotus x Banana Split and there also a Ken's GDP in there some where. None are sexed yet.

OK super happy to say I finally got it dialed in!! You can see in the first picture I was using a wire for each corner with each side going to a ratchet strap and because of that I was restricted from raising my lamp up as high as i'd like so I was reconfiguring it to be like the 2nd picture with only one wire on each side connecting the 2 corners and the ratchet strap hooking on that... while trying to reconfigure it in place alone the drivers slid off (luckily disconnecting the wires without breaking the connectors) so I just decided to relocate them out of the room all together... and while I was making improvements i decided to connect my exhaust to the home ducting to help heat my house instead of just exhausting back in to the room the tent was in which was causing major heat problems and preventing me from running full power.... now i can run full wattage and the tent stays super cool!!! now i can finally flip to flower, but i better connect the carbon filter first ^_^
